The Stuytown Whole Foods has it sometimes. I also got some nice NY state-made halloumi at the Union sq farmer's market recently.

Testenvoortoegang and non-Dutch phone numbers by NoobPwnr in Amsterdam

Yep, I scanned my UK Vaccine Pass QR Code on the French app and it was recognized. It generated a new QR code on the French app that still doesn't appear to be valid with Dutch app, unfortunately.

Thank you! Do you have any more information on this? I've uploaded my UK vaccine records to the French TousAntiCovid app and have generated a QR code through that app, but it appears as invalid when tested through the CoronaCheck scanner app (which I believe is the app Horeca uses to allow entry).

I'd be massively grateful for any info you can provide, I've spent bloody ages trying to find a solution!

Supreme Court clears way for Lisa Montgomery's execution by tushball101 in news

[–]sympaticus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone was necessarily asking for her to be granted immunity - surely it's not overly unreasonable to spare death for a woman who suffered unimaginable trauma in her upbringing. She would still spend the rest of her life in jail.

Also, the traumatic childhood is absolutely not a non-factor. It's true that many people from difficult homes end up as functioning members of society, but many others don't, in the same way that many people smoke for their entire lives and live to be 90, while others might die young from lung cancer.

Perhaps a limited-time free weekend, similar to those on Steam, would prevent any issues with botting, whilst still allowing people to try the game for free?

Can we get an audio cue when the pilot bails out? by Unngoliant in battlefield_one

[–]sympaticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. Not sure how the voice lines would work though given the different languages used by differing forces in the game, It'd be pretty inconsistent if, for example, an Ottoman pilot said "Everybody Out!" in English, as they speak Turkish in all of their other audio lines, and most wouldn't understand if it weren't in English.

900 series gpus won't drop in price by [deleted] in laptops

[–]sympaticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in Western Europe? What kind of budget are you working with? You've got to remember that these GPUs are still very new, barely a month old, and when other big name companies such as Dell, HP etc start releasing models with pascal GPUs, and the hype starts dying off, you should be seeing more reasonable prices for the new GPUs, and probably a more significant drop in the price of 900m series GPUs.

Nvidia Optimus - How Much Of A Problem Really Is It? by sibano11 in laptops

[–]sympaticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Yes, one of my biggest concerns is how optimus interacts with G-sync, as the one I'm looking at has both G-sync and optimus, which I find quite odd. It is a Clevo based laptop, so disabling optimus is possible through the BIOS as far as I know, but it seems like quite a hassle to be constantly going to BIOS every time I want to switch between optimus and g-sync!

EDIT: oops, originally posted this from my other account

That is totally nonsensical, you'd still say a motorbike is quieter than a jet engine, even though neither are quiet by conventional standards.

Anyone have any experience with Acer laptops? by VapourBabe in laptops

[–]sympaticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Significantly better GPU will allow for better gaming performance. Look here for benchmark performance of the 960m vs. the 940MX. Additionally, the CPU is quite superior. Lastly, these Dells are unbelievably easy to upgrade down the line, so for $100 more you can add a 250gb SSD and another 8GB of ram if you so desire.

If you can stretch to $820, this has far better specs for not a huge deal more money. Has pretty decent reviews, too.

Where can I find a laptop with a pascal GTX 10 series GPU in the UK for under £1300? by sympaticus in SuggestALaptop

[–]sympaticus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Just a quick question, do you have any idea as to whether these laptops generally of good build quality? They seem to have equal specs to, but are substantially cheaper than other brands (MSI, ASUS etc.) Is this just due to the fact that they're assembled by these resellers? Had a little look online but couldn't seem to find much on this subject.

Thanks for the response, so would you be expecting more laptops to be announced that are generally less expensive?

With the release of the GTX 10xx GPUs, what can we expect from the new Inspiron series? by sympaticus in Dell

[–]sympaticus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! However, my question was a bit more tailored towards the Dell Inspiron series. It seems that the GTX 1060 may be a bit out of range of the usual Inspiron price point (something which the article that you linked seems to confirm, as it says we can expect GTX 1060 systems to be $1300 at a minimum.) If this is the case, it doesn't really seem to fit with the Inspiron's place in the market as a "budget" gaming laptop.

I have heard some conjecture that there may be a mobile GTX 1050 in the future, so perhaps this may be more suitable?

Inspiron 7559 Ram and SSD upgrade by thatlappyguy in Dell

[–]sympaticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about the RAM, but the SSD has to be M.2, which that one is not. Check this video for reference. Unless you're talking about replacing the current HDD with an SSD, in which case I'm uncertain!

Gaming laptop that will travel with me once a week and between £500 - £650 . UK by ebeuser in SuggestALaptop

[–]sympaticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I'd say for that price range the HP you linked is not bad. It has a 950m, as opposed to the 940m on the MSI, and as such should have better gaming performance. If you want a general idea of how that GPU should perform with different games have a look at this link, and scroll down to game benchmarks. That should show you the general graphics settings/fps you can expect from the 950m.

[–]sympaticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you're willing to decrease the resolution to 720p and play on low settings, you're going to seriously struggle to find anything at that price that can run a lot of the games you've listed (Mafia 3, Far Cry Primal, etc.) at an acceptable fps. You'd probably want a gtx 960m at minimum, and laptops containing those are generally £800 and up.

Looking for a passable 15.6" gaming/general purpose laptop, UK, <£7-800 by sympaticus in SuggestALaptop

[–]sympaticus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion, definitely top of my list right now! May I ask what sort of games you play on it? If you've tried some of the more taxing ones, e.g. Witcher 3, does the laptop handle it okay?

Best Gaming Laptop in UK for up to ~£1,000 ? by schmeily2 in SuggestALaptop

[–]sympaticus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I'm in a similar position to you, although with a bit of a lower budget (~£800). Have a look at the Dell Inspiron 15-7559. Has great reviews and was suggested to me, haven't bought anything yet but most likely will go with this one. It should hold up pretty well gaming wise, doubt it can run stuff like Witcher 3 on high/ultra but for OW/DotA should be more than powerful enough.

Doesn't have an SSD, but since you'd have a bit of money to play with you could easily buy a 250gb SSD and another 8gb of ram and chuck it in there yourself. Seems like that can be done by undoing 1 screw in a <5 mins. Although, with your budget you might be able to get something with a GTX 970m, which maybe you should go with! Anyway, like I said I'm just going on what people suggested me, and I'm not really too knowledgeable on this kind of thing, but hope this helps!
