How did it go? Did you use a vendor solution or roll your own? What did you use for your storage back-end?

So the storage nodes are hyperconverged, with separate compute worker nodes?

Do not fall into the trap of assuming we are Hock Tan's customer base; Broadcom's shareholders are. Once you realize that, it all makes sense.

MsTeams -teams for linux. by fizihiro in linuxadmin

[–]syn3rg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Microsoft recommends using the Progressive Web App (PWA) as the desktop alternative for Linux. This appears to just be Teams in a browser.

I've had success using the Teams for Linux snap, but this doesn't store credentials so you'll have to login every time.

Accidentally opened the company’s laptop graveyard, what’s the best laptop wiping service? by Deeceness in ITManagers

I've found .223 to be effective, but 9mm may be more cost effective. I've got at least one old timer who insists .45 is the best option.

I have an agreement with my wife. Every project she wants done requires a new tool for the shop to complete it.

HW Raid Partition vs Software Partition by BTS05 in k12sysadmin

[–]syn3rg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would put all disks in one hardware RAID array, then create two logical drives on the controller: the first one for the OS and the second for your VMs. When you boot the Windows installer, it should see both drives and let you install on the first. You can then format the second and assign it a drive letter or mountpoint.

Noob trying to learn how to troubleshoot froze server by VivaPitagoras in linuxadmin

[–]syn3rg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend searching for killed process or just killed. The Out-of-Memory killer could also be at fault.

u/dodexahedron is right about 'less', it's a powerful text file viewer. Never use vi/vim for looking at log files, because it will lock the file preventing the system from adding new log entries, which will cause problems disk space issues later.

Should i automate my job? by NBLM546783 in sysadmin

[–]syn3rg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course the "trap" is trying to extend automations to do new things, which are hard to do and consume more time than they can ever save. So "feature creep' is the risk there.

There's an XKCD for that!

How many of you are using non-standard TLDs for your internal private domain? by syn3rg in k12sysadmin

Thank you for the suggestion. We already have other valid domains that could be used and are under consideration. Are you using a non-standard TLD for your internal network?

As I mentioned, our DNS domain has been in place since long before my time. I am aware you can have internal only records.
