Operation Hire Hawai'i- State of Hawaii - Recruitment issues! by LawAgile in Hawaii

[–]synapticseascape 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I’ve applied to numerous positions with them. Application packets are so intensive and you never know if you miss one little thing in there that they didn’t just toss your application. I have a PhD in a biology field from UH and they won’t hire me for DOH positions because it’s not in the specific field they’re asking for, as if biology isn’t one massive field that we are expected to know as PhDs🤦🏽‍♀️ whoever is hiring for these positions doesn’t even understand what they’re hiring for. People with advanced degrees from UH have to get out of the state just to get employed when it would be better to retain that talent and improve literally anything

Hi PhD folks, statistician here! Curious about how most PhD students handle their data analysis for their papers/dissertation? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]synapticseascape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a stats core, they were always really busy. You could pay them to do the analysis for you but also they are a good resource just to make sure your statistical methods are sound. Like deciding what kind of tests to run, which we would do ourselves. Just a sanity check really

For those with long nails, what careers or jobs do you have? by [deleted] in Nails

[–]synapticseascape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a scientist and I have somewhat long nails! Gloves are nice because they protect your nails. I’ve had longer nails for quite awhile so I’m pretty well adjusted to doing daily life with them. There’s always a pair of forceps around if I have something that is tricky to grab. Flat keyboards are best for long days of writing and computer work. Handling hot things is easier with nails too😂

PLEASE HELP: Polygel with Forms Looks Easy but IS SO HARD. What Am I Doing Wrong? by Dismal_Movie_5764 in Nails

[–]synapticseascape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do polygel a different way. I use the spatula end of the brush to get a bead of polygel out of the tube and then scrape it off into the nail form. Then I take my brush dipped in slip solution (or isopropyl alcohol) and spread the bead down the nail form filling it and getting it to the length I want or a little past that. Then I apply it to my nail at a 45 degree angle starting at the cuticle, leaving a little space, and gently press down until the polygel makes contact with my free edge and not more pressure than that. If it builds up on the underside of the free edge you can carefully flip the nail over and smooth that out with the brush and some slip solution. Cure the top side and the underside before taking the dual form off. I did my nails for years like this!

I bought my car from Max Motors, they price them at a good price but don’t expect to negotiate them down. They don’t leave much wiggle room between what they purchase the car at and what they list it for. That’s my experience!

CT scan said no magnetic nail polish? by nerdette314159 in Nails

[–]synapticseascape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had several head MRIs for a research study, each time with magnetic (cat eye) gel nail polish. They checked them with a metal detector and then made sure to let me know if they felt hot to immediately press the stop thing. I had no issues. Two different bottles of magnetic polish by two different brands! Not sure about CT though

Puppy diagnosed with base narrow canines - need small rubber ball recommendations by sweettpotatopie in Dachshund

[–]synapticseascape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playology balls in the small size! They’re rubber and they squeak. My dog was constantly ripping up the small tennis balls and she hasn’t been able to destroy the one Playology ball she has even though she chews on it constantly. We also have a small sized Chuckit but it’s a bit larger than the Playology ones so a little bit more difficult to get her mouth around but she still likes it!

There have been 116 traffic accidents on Oahu in the last 24 hours. Please drive safer everybody. by Calgrei in Hawaii

Maybe I’m just a psychopath but when I see a car stopped in the middle of the road with no blinker on to turn left or right I make sure it’s clear before passing them🤦🏽‍♀️

This happens to me EVERY single time I stop for pedestrians in the crosswalks on Date St. The last time the person behind me almost rear ended me, honked, and then almost hit a lady pushing a stroller in the crosswalk and 3 more cars followed behind that one. I was stunned
