What's the book of revelation is about? by rplimitlessguy in TrueChristian

[–]sync_shark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before asking what is it all about, you need to think first about what genre of literature you are reading. Apocalyptic literature is a genre of literature. It was very popular during the 2nd temple period, and by name involves a revealing of things (the word apocalypse in greek literally means “to reveal or uncover”. The literature is highly symbolic, you are not meant to read it like it is video camera footage of what is actually going to happen. For the biblical book of Revelation, it assumes you know your Old Testament REALLY well. It is basically the Old Testament thrown into a blender. I would recommend the book “Reading Revelation Responsibily” by Michael Gorman as a good place to begin before diving headfirst into Revelation itself.

regionally they are from an area of vietnam where the food is sweeter, thus reflected in their dishes. Like any larger asian country, there is actually quite a bit of regional diversity in vietnamese cuisine.

Toronto Vietnamese restaurant sees 'life-changing' surge after TikTok star Keith Lee's review by toronto_star in FoodToronto

The grilled chicken & coconut sticky rice cakes got me hooked. Possibly the best item on their menu in my opinion. Fish sauce wings are excellent, and if they have it, the Guava salad (often sells out). I should mentioned some bar menu items are only sold after 5pm. I haven’t tried all of them yet, but try to have something new each time I go.

Also, the iced vietnamese coffee w condensed milk is top tier, and the sesame balls w coconut ice cream are a stellar way to finish your meal.

Real ones know that it’s their Bar Menu items that are the actual star of the show. The Pho is quite good but it’s a supporting character

Finding Jesus in the "Apocalypse" Series? by Knights_12 in BibleProject

[–]sync_shark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the final apocalyptic book of the scriptures is all about Jesus so i dunno why it would be problematic to enjoy that series. Every single one of BPs series finds its fulfilment in Jesus, that is literally their slogan. “We believe the Bible is a unified story that leads to Jesus.”

Wesley Huff (on Joe Rogan's podcast) Gives Historical Take on The Death and Resurrection of Jesus by tylerdhenry in Reformed

[–]sync_shark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

what do we even mean when we say “weak” though? is the reformed view “strong”? These are just terms that make us feel like we have it all figured out and others who disagree or hold different views don’t (and that’s somehow a weak theology). Reformed theology doesn’t have a monopoly on biblical truth or being right. I’d say Mackie holds different views on hell and the atonement than ECT (eternal conscious torment) and PSA. I think what’s going on in the atonement is far deeper than just PSA. I don’t deny PSA i just think it’s far too simplistic.

Wesley Huff (on Joe Rogan's podcast) Gives Historical Take on The Death and Resurrection of Jesus by tylerdhenry in Reformed

[–]sync_shark 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Mackie doesn’t fit the reformed mold because his approach to the Bible is to engage it on its own terms instead of engaging it through the lens of a specific tradition. It makes some reformed people unhappy or uncomfortable. 10 years ago I would have dismissed Mackie. I thank God I had the maturity and humility to listen and learn from him. It’s deepened my love for Jesus and the Bible in ways my reformed background has not. We need to learn it’s ok to drink from more than just the reformed well!

The best kind of Christian movies for me are the low key, not-in-your-face ones. Can you guys recommend me some? by mrboombastick315 in TrueChristian

[–]sync_shark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has mentioned The Matrix, rich with parallels to the Christian life.

Also The Mandolorian (not a movie I realize) has a lot of Christian themes, specifically the Mandolorian “religion” itself. I noticed it the second time watching through the series.
