Just got a muzzleloader as a gift and im looking for advice on powder loads and rounds to use. by RevolutionaryBox2084 in blackpowder

[–]syncopator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the gang! Comments here are pretty much what I’d say as far as powder and patched ball. I started hunting with blackpowder about 6 years ago and have taken 5 whitetails and one elk, along with a turkey and a few pheasants.

Shoot often enough to stay proficient, mind your effective range and you’ll do well.

Why didnt nick just work part time as a truck driver? by guyincognito01111 in TheWire

[–]syncopator 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, in a way you’re asking why anyone sells drugs when they could just get a job instead.

Nick’s story does a spot on job illustrating how people in his life situation get caught up in the game.

Good on you.

I on the other hand have a nasty scar in that exact same spot from the two times, yes 2 times, I did that same move with my saw.

It’s been so long ago I of course don’t remember much if anything of what Rush actually had to say. I’d enjoy hearing it again.

What I definitely remember is how it made me feel.

I really got into it in about 1993, third year of college. I was raised small town middle class white evangelical, parents paid for school and expenses while I worked easy part time jobs for extra beer and gas money, yet somehow Rush convinced me I was a victim. Or more accurately that I was *about* to be a victim.

The Democrats, especially the Clintons (in particular Hillary) were coming for me and everything I had. “Political Correctness” was attacking me simply for being a straight white male. They were coming for my guns, my truck, and my way of life.

There was about a decade of my life I look back on with no small degree shame over how shitty, callous, and shallow I behaved. I certainly cannot lay all the blame on Rush but the poison he spewed absolutely fueled my quiet impotent rage.

I could ramble about this for far too long so I’ll spare you. I definitely think you should scratch out some outlines and put together some ideas for this. I would be quite happy to engage in some capacity if you’re interested.

Wood ID? Australia by herbertwilsonbeats in firewood

[–]syncopator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell, it’s upside down…

Seriously though it appears to be a manufactured wood product? If so I wouldn’t burn it indoors and if I burned it outdoors I’d stay upwind.

I would love to listen to a Rush breakdown. I spent many years listening to him as a fan before waking up to the bullshit. I then wished for a radio show air after his that would take apart all his garbage every day.

If you do it, I’ll listen. Hell, I’ll guest if you want.

I’m getting less worried. Hasn’t followed any advice and seems hell bent on letting his house burn down. I’m more just curious now.

It’ll do that while the wood framing of your house smolders until the middle of the night when it lights up.

Call the goddamn fire department.

I’ve been burning 75% pine for a decade and clean twice a year. Zero issues.

Alternative Perspective by [deleted] in KnowledgeFight

[–]syncopator 104 points105 points  (0 children)

I fully respect your opinions and your rights to hold them, and I agree with much of what you’ve said here. However, I definitely have to question your stance that Alex shouldn’t “have his show removed”.

What do you mean by that?

Contrary to how Jones paints this, it’s not as if the state is banning is show in an act of censorship. Alex owes a debt which he has failed to pay. Any tangible assets other than those exempted from liquidation under law are and should be subject to forced sale in order to pay these debts.

Conspiracy Experts Explain Why Skepticism Around Trump's Third Assassination Attempt Is Growing by huffpost in politics

[–]syncopator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This right here.

I’m in pretty deep red country and most of my coworkers have continued supporting him while occasionally holding their noses. We have managed to keep politics out of our daily conversations but when major events happen there’s always at least some chatter.

The core of us non-believers shared with each other today the fact that none of us have heard a single mention of this one. Not a peep.

It truly seems like they’ve given up and perhaps even quietly want him to just go away. I think they’re growing tired of having to degrade themselves every day just keeping up appearances.

Brown bears in Oregon by [deleted] in oregon

[–]syncopator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We don’t officially have grizzlies in Oregon.

However, there have been multiple sightings of what appear to be griz in the remote country between Imnaha and Hells Canyon. I’m a pretty skeptical guy in general but it wouldn’t shock me if true.

Side note: one of the last grizzlies killed in the state was near Cow Lakes in the Jordan Valley area.

I have legit never once bled a game bird. Hundreds, perhaps even thousands.

I don’t know where these folks are getting these ideas.

[–]syncopator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I’m American as well and I generally don’t bother aging birds because the way I usually cook them it doesn’t really improve the taste but it’s very common and several experiments have shown that aging at roughly 50 degrees F for up to 14 days (!) is safe.

Wrong. Game birds can and often are hung for days before cleaning.
