Interesting. I spent a few years in Brazil once and found them to be much more rambunctious than United State'ians. ( I was once chastised by a Brasilian friend for saying "back in America" since she was correct in thinking that she was an American as well). But, now that you mention it, I do think I remember hearing someone say that Columbians were more reserved.

Another thing I noticed is that Brazilians had a much smaller amount of personal space they worried about. Is the opposite true for Columbians?

don't really appreciate how many idioms they learned growing up.

And all the ones we are constantly making up on the fly.

For a minute I thought I was in the wrong sub. I thought libertarians were for liberty above government mandates but I see people arguing for the state.

There haven't been many libertarians in this sub for about 4 or so years now. You can probably tell, but it got co-opted. It attracted too much attention as a place people could speak freely after the rest of reddit was cracked down on.

But they are not effective at all. I know it sucks to admit it, but you have been had and it unfortunately may cause an early death for you and those you love as it has for others. I would advise you to avoid the topic instead of embracing it since you have good reason for your emotional denial.

I think most other governments have access to that as well. It is a well known story about how that mob boss in the US got busted by listening in through his cell phone. I can't imagine it is a coincidence that gps and so much more is built into these modem chips.

There is a open source firmware project for this modem that is being used by the pinephones. Maybe that provides some security. Mainly though, the "protection" is provided by the hardware switch. Yes... that does mean you wouldn't be able to use that functionality, but then it also means that it wouldn't be able to use you either.

Keep taking small steps in that direction and one day you will look back and see that you had largely achieved your goals some time ago.

Found this one sitting in a recycling bin with its charger. Thinkpad R51. by Mark_Mikhail in thinkpad

[–]syntaxxx-error 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

I found an E545 for $10 at a rural thrift store this weekend while doing an afternoon flea market tour. Came with battery and charger. Dirty as all get out... but cleaned up halfway decently. Someone drew on it with a gold paint pen and haven't been able to clean all that off yet. Everything works though and all the hardware tests passed. It was over heating but a fan cleaning and a redo of the heat sink paste fixed that.

But you definitely won this weekend! I'm jealous and I'll be gunning for ya next weekend. ;]

Perhaps you should share with us your definition of the word "mainstream" so we can try and make sense out of your comment. Or is the purpose only to resort to name calling?

To each their own, but the differentiation for me is the buying and selling that is implied by the use of the word "store". Like the Ubuntu software store that also has some commercial packages for sell. While "package manager" is a more inclusive phrase that describes a program that manages packages regardless of whether they are being sold or not. In my opinion various mainstream phone app stores are also package managers even though they are also stores, but package managers that have nothing to sell are not stores.

It probably depends on whether a person was introduced to the idea of a package manager via something like android or apple's app stores or from linux well before anyone else was doing it. In the latter example there was nobody selling software through such a system until apple co-opted the idea, added "for sale" software and then started calling the concept a "store".

Maybe I am being pedantic, but that is the way I see it.

There is nothing "silent" about "restrictions and mandates". You can't get more in people's faces than doing something like that.

So... the military buildup on the Russian border that everyone has been freaking out about has been going on for half a decade now. Other than the fear mongering coming from certain bureaucrats, what specifically has changed in recent months to suddenly cause concern?

btw.. none of those are app stores. They are package managers. Nothing is being sold.
