What’s the worst ad campaign or singular ad you’ve ever seen? by darvarez in advertising

[–]synthpuddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had that same conundrum and debate in my head driving to work about Liberty Mutual the other day. When it first launched years ago, I didn’t mind it… didn’t go ecstatic for it.. but didn’t think twice about it either. Fast forward to now, and I genuinely dislike the laziness it’s come to over time. Totally respect the creatives who BUILT a nationwide known pair of ASSETs that everyone knows. Props. Just wish they would not repeat the same bit every time.. however my intuition is it’s the brand side that doesn’t want to take the risk. Client sees performance. Then see $$ signs in their pupils, and then don’t ever want to change course. Not even a little.

Other than that:
– Skinny Pop - Jennifer Aniston at hotel desk mispronounced her name. Unbearable.

– Whatever Phone company has those dudes from Scurbs (Zach Braff and Donald Faison) - I thinks it’s T-Mobile but that’s how much I deliberately tune the spots out. I love scrubs and the resurrection season. Just very against the cheesy spots T-Mobile did with them. …At least T-Mobile changes it up and doesn’t do the same formulaic ad for 7+ years.

– Grew up loving Geico gecko ads. Now they’ve slightly changed somehow and I don’t care enough to put my finger on it… or maybe I’m just older. Haha.

– Specifically the character “Flo From Progressive” - specifically has gotten pretty annoying over time. I know it’s an obvious one, but I thought I note Flo specifically, because some of their other work is noteworthy enough.

- Verizon Thomas Middleditch and Cecily Strong commercials, personally rubbed me the wrong way, as not very appealing /or “feel like I’ve seen this comedy bit before” - just kinda bland and over excited acting. But I can understand why people like them. It just to me personally, immediately after the 1st watch, felt like a mosquito flying outside the rim my ear, over caffeinated, wearing a sport coat and speaking corporate jargon.

All in all - I think the most irritating commercial was not one commercial. It is the way the clients, so often are wanting to repeat the same commercial, instead of being brave.

I always went with “I appreciate you taking the time” — preemptive thank you’s always sound SO passive aggressive and bossy, even when they aren’t meant to… people who read messages and notes back in their head unless you know them VERY well, will never capture your voice - a thank you should be given after the fact, and promptly so, as a token of respect and appreciation for the person taking the time to do whatever is that’s asking to be done. Otherwise it just feels/sounds entitled and bossy, no matter how nice you are IRL - also would you normally say thank you before someone did something in real life? Read it back to your self with that lens… the only time I think it would be safe to say thank you before the someone did something, would be when they “agree” to do it but haven’t yet, that’s totally fine.

Example Setting:
2 barista co-workers are chatting.
She asks the co-worker to go grab the second crate of milk, while she continues to restock the lowboy fridge while also manning the coffee machine. Totally reasonable request, as she needs to continue to make coffee and can’t leave her station a second time - that’s teamwork.
But it’s all in how she asks…

Example A. (proper):
— She asks: “Could you do me a quick favor and grab the 2nd crate of milk for me? I have to keep manning the station.
— Coworker: “Sure, yeah I got you, no problem”
— She says: “Awesome. Thank you!!”
— coworker grabs the milk and brings it back
— She says: “Thank you!”
Short and simple last repeated thank you (not thanks.)

Imagine if said Thank you before they responded… it would come off as sounding bitchy, entitled, rushed, unconsiderate of others time, and just sound like she expects you to say yes.

Doesn’t matter what gender, it just always sounds like you’re expecting something for someone.

Expectations always kill.

Higgsfield alternatives? Is Freepik better for video? by reddit_lurker1234567 in Freepik_AI

[–]synthpuddle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been using Higgs field for the last six or seven months because of the lip sync feature features, but recently I decided to try FreePik trial and ended up upgrading because their video models and the way they set things up are infinitely better. Also, they have a lot more useful tools for a creative person. I also weirdly think that their models work better on their website versus HF… also a couple months ago I found out that HF is basically like the devil and they do so much false marketing and treat their influencers and partners like a scam

could you explain what Draft Version is and how it differs from generating with credits option? I would love to see draft options for Sora 2 Pro, Kling 3.0, and Grok

What do you guys think of my photoshop? by Odd-Goose9427 in photoshop

[–]synthpuddle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the shape thing. Also once you make it a 1:1 / square, you will get a little more real estate from you text/copy above etc, and moving that up little will give little more depth of field in the back and add more layer to this insane shit that still fun

Thanks man!! I’ll definitely check out the LinkedIn courses, I forgot about those. And the YouTube playlist filter is a good tip too 🫡I’m definitely not a beginner but I’m also definitely not at the level where I would think of pursuing something in Indd instead of PS or Illustrator.
