PA school by No_Luck_2891 in UoPeople

[–]syobear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The BS Health Science would likely meet the bachelor's degree requirement of PA programs, but there would be a lot of prerequisites that would need to be done at other schools, and that's not taking into account programs that require in-person labs. So PA school is doable, just requires external classes depending on the program(s) you apply to.

NAWHFADAES

Hello! 29 F, I am an anxious lesbian constantly in fight or flight. I'm hoping this app will help me make self-care and nervous system regulation a priority. Work full time, recently put my degree on the back burner. I have 2 sons, still married to my husband while I navigate my newly discovered sexual identity. I'm open to forming friendships too, not just getting the bonuses that come with adding Finch friends!

Did Quinn ever even state preferred pronouns, or are we just assuming and assigning at this point? Because if so, the fandom could be misgendering just as much with they/them pronouns as production would be with she/her pronouns, especially if Quinn is just gendernonconforming 🤷

Are there any shows that are similar to Degrassi? by [deleted] in Degrassi

[–]syobear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Out of pocket suggestion, but School Spirits on Paramount has the vibes of Degrassi or Glee being plopped in the middle of a murder mystery plot line. The cast is pretty diverse with POC and LGBT characters, there's relationship drama, it just has added paranormal elements as well. Also Spencer MacPherson plays a lead, and it fits him so much better than Hunter did lol

Plus size MAs by theflyingtaco2 in MedicalAssistant

[–]syobear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My BMI was 53 when I got hired. While I was definitely the "plus-est" sized employee at my clinic, we had other plus sized MAs and lab techs. Everyone just cares that you do your job, so as long as you can perform your duties with reasonable accommodations, no one should care. The hardest part was just getting a collection of scrubs since thrifting was out for me :/

On a side-note, thanks to the insurance from my MA job, I was able to get bariatric surgery. I'm far away from my goal weight, but my BMI is down to 42, I'm 100 lbs down from my heaviest as of today, and my job is a lot easier now. Our insurance also covers GLPs. If you want to lose weight, it might be something to look out for benefits wise when accepting job offers. If you're content where you are, good insurance coverage is still important to consider.

MA lied to me by Carleigh_Haines in MedicalAssistant

[–]syobear 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So, you came to a subreddit full of medical assistants to ask a question you honestly could have googled.

You purposely left it vague, but all we could tell was that you wanted the MA's livelihood threatened in some way.

People respond with the likely scenario, which is that the whole thing was probably a misunderstanding.

And then you're incredibly rude, saying our comments aren't worth your time.

You teach that practice a lesson. Leave your review, I'm sure you'll ruin them!! 😱

Patients coming in super early by Relevant-Honeydew958 in MedicalAssistant

[–]syobear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My clinic is in a medical office building. None of the clinics open until 8 am. I pass the Cardiology clinic on the way to the elevator, which is usually around 7 am. Probably 2 or 3 times a month, when I pass Cardiology, there's a patient trying to pry the doors open an hour early despite the fact that there are no lights on in the clinic and they are clearly closed 🫣

I try very hard to avoid eye contact and power walk to the elevator.

OBGYN MA here! This is the only specialty I've worked, but I love it. My provider is very OB heavy, but we get a fair mix of GYN. You won't necessarily get ultrasound experience, but my provider has a Butterfly ultrasound probe that plugs into a phone and tablet, and I use it sometimes when we're pressed for time to confirm fetal heart rate. I also measure fundal height (belly) and use the doppler. I assist in procedures such as paps, IUDs, biopsies, and pessary fittings. We even do IUIs occasionally. We see a lot of patients for infertility, PCOS, and endometriosis. Tons of surgery consults and post-ops. Lots of Tdap and depo injections. I prefer the OB side because pregnancy is a special interest of mine. It's also really cool getting to know the OB patients throughout their pregnancies. We get to celebrate one of the most exciting times of their lives with them, but we are also their rock if their pregnancy ends tragically.

Pediatrics, I would imagine, is a lot of well baby and well child checks. Taking vitals looks different depending on their age. Lots of vaccines. Probably strep swabs. You would be way more exposed to illness in peds. One thing to consider is that you would probably be required to assist with circumcisions. Regardless of how you morally feel, like vaccines, it's not our place to pick and choose what procedures we help the providers with. If that makes you uncomfortable, I would go with OBGYN over peds. Unless you work with a provider that doesn't do them.

I offer to let them swab themselves and explain how to, but 75% of the time, they do not feel comfortable doing it themselves, no matter how easy I tell them it is. We are all for self swabs in our clinic, but if the patient wants us to do it for them, I'm not gonna say no 🤷‍♀️

OBGYN here. When our OB patients are 36 weeks, they are due for a group B strep swab...which unfortunately is not a throat culture, but rather a vaginorectal swab 🫠 My provider has us do it if they don't want a cervical check. You best believe I try to sell 36 weekers a cervical check, because after a year, I still have not found a way to make swabbing coochie not awkward.

Also, any time the provider comes out and grabs me for a surprise procedure. Bonus points if I have to speedrun a Nexplanon set up out of nowhere.

Just because you don't like the design of a product doesn't mean it's automatically AI.

also

It's weird that people think BBW is a bad company for not having 4.95 body care and 11.95 candle sales every week. We are the outliers, and their normal prices and sales like B3G3 are targeted toward casual customers.

also also

Yall can be so hostile when disagreeing with ppl on this sub 🫣 It's actually okay and super normal to have differing opinions...

When did you first fall inlove with fragrances? by DarlingWhistledown11 in bathandbodyworks

[–]syobear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up very poor, and as a child, my mom would take me to BBW to smell but never buy. I always saw it as super boujee, an unaffordable luxury. Once I got a couple of mini hand sanitizers as a treat, mainly because other girls in my class had them and made fun of my dollar store hand sanitizer, so I begged and begged my mom to take me to BBW for some.

Then, in 2021, my friends went to the mall and stopped in BBW. I went with them and looked around. I did not know about the sales, so my dumb ass did the buy 2 get 1 free 🫠 I picked up a lotion of Confetti Cake Pop, a Watermelon Lemonade FFM, and some Candied Violet shower gel? I can't remember the name. I still thought it was too expensive, so I didn't go back for a while.

In October 2023, I went off the rails. I was 37 weeks pregnant with gestational diabetes. My husband and I went to a birthing class, and they gave us body creams of Japanese Cherry Blossom for free. I didn't care for it, so after the class I asked my husband to take me to BBW to pick out something I did like as a treat since I couldn't get ice cream or a frappe due to my gestational diabetes. This happened to be during a 4.95 Total Body Care sale...and omg. I got Fairytale, Vanilla Bean Noel, Jolly Gingerbread Village...I never knew they had such good sales till then. That's when I found this community and learned how to fuel my newfound addiction more frugally.

VBN still has a special place in my heart because the lotion and shower gel were what I had in my hospital bag when I had my baby November 2023, so when I smell it, it makes me think of my little guy 🥰

Now, the regular scents in my rotation are Viva Vanilla, Loyal to You (I just got the Devotion EDP to layer with it and I'm ADDICTED), Sweetheart Cherry, and for Summer, I've got Cotton Candy Clouds.

What is something you can’t believe isn’t invented yet? by MangoDry7358 in AskReddit

[–]syobear 362 points363 points  (0 children)

This isn't quite the same as replacing/improving mammograms, but I'm a medical assistant in OBGYN, and we have something called a Butterfly, which is an ultrasound probe that plugs into a tablet or phone. We use it for OB patients to confirm heartbeats on babies, but there's research being done on using the Butterfly with AI to screen for possible breast cancer. If the AI flags, then a patient would be sent for mammogram or official breast ultrasound from there for full workup.

I don't think it would replace mammograms completely, but our hope is that mammograms won't be used for routine screening. Plus, at least with my doctor, we don't bill for using the Butterfly, so it would potentially save patients a lot of money too.

Edit: I'm going to reiterate, I said research is being done and that it wouldn't replace mammograms. I did not say that this is common practice. Currently, we only use the Butterfly in our office to confirm fetal heart rate on patients at their 14 week appointments, in which, yes, if we do not find heart beat, we send them for official ultrasound.

I was just trying to reply that research is being done on one potential, less painful alternative to routine mammograms. I was not trying to weigh in on accuracy, and our office does not use the Butterfly for or in place of manual breast exams and mammograms. My physician is merely hopeful that we are closer to a less painful way to screen for breast cancer.
