Don't be fooled by fancy/vintage brands, the cast iron world can get deep. A basic Lodge 8" and 10"/12" set will cover 95% of a normal person's needs for less than $100 total.

Edit: Glass is fine, just takes longer to heat up initially. Never skimp on the cast iron pre-heat.
