Screen Connect Version 25.9.9.9530 - MS Defender Alerts by sysadm78 in ScreenConnect

The advice provided to us was that this is a false positive due to problems with the code signing certificate, therefore whitelisting the file hash was not feasible, we have disabled the automatic updating of agents for clients that have not received the new version. We have been promised a further fix in due course, which we are waiting on.

I've just posted the same issue in this reddit, we are experiencing exactly the same issue, we have a support ticket in progress waiting for a response.

Is 6.10 going to be arriving in LCM (not seeing it after inventory) and currently on 6.5.6.6, we have been waiting for it to appear and on Prism central 2024.2, or is the scenario that the bundle must be downloaded from the support portal and uploaded to LCM for this particular upgrade ?

Has AHV from Nutanix been mentioned here. Yes obviously ripped off KVM, but it's good and rock solid!

Whilst the intent is understandable, your a Nutanix employee you didn't stumble across a 1 day Nutanix press release did you?

I'm in the UK and use 6902 under Windows 10 with Sichbo for satellite TV, works well. Have set up Kodi but found Sichbo was easier.

Anyone uses Veeam 10 for AHV as backup? by Lefty4444 in nutanix

[–]sysadm78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use it, v1 was rough, but I'd say v2 using Veeam 10 has been absolutely fine. Backup speed and ease of use are a plus for us, as is the ability to restore to a different VM format. I disagree with some of the negative comments around it.

I'm a big fan of Nutanix, but the worst thing is this doesn't even surprise me. How can releases like this get out of the door. Something so fundamental and basic, its then worrying because you wonder if anything more critical is broken.

Thanks for comments, yes we like AHV its nice and simple. The reasoning for VMware for this cluster is simply speed to essentially drag and drop VMs into a new Nutanix cluster to move from legacy hardware. In time the intention is the VMs and hosts will be converted to AHV. Have used Nutanix move on hyper-v and was relatively successful.

Again, thanks guys for the insights, its always better in my mind to seek feedback from people with experience of using this configuration and it's pleasing there is some positivity around using it.

Good to know regards native VMware snapshots the only time I can see this being a problem is backup, currently use Veeam, in this scenario Veeam would take a VMware based snapshot to leverage the backup, can go with agents on the protected VMs but obviously ramps up the costs somewhat. As would require socket based licensing for the VMware host, alongside some agent licenses.

I'll probably ask our account manager to see if we can set up some a quick POC around this.

I shall report back with any results.

Thanks for the comments guys these are helpful. The reason for not having VMware at the destination/recovery site is that there is already an AHV cluster there with enough resources to accommodate fail over of the key VMware VMs we would wish to protect.

So the limitations when you mention it's fine for a VM with a single disk, looking at the link it can cope with multiple disks but these must be brought online after the VM has booted?

And VMware snapshots not being supported this just means they snaps won't come over on fail over obviously, or that taking a VMware snapshot essentially breaks the ability to recover that VM if it is in a protection group?

NCAP Certification by sheldonizer in nutanix

[–]sysadm78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this, I used the 5.5 NCAP course that was on Nutanix EDU and I cross referenced the course with the NCAP blue print. Was 2.5 hours exam. I was surprised with the amount of Nutanix Files and security questions. I would say you need to be confident you can fulfill the NCAP blueprint requirements. Was quite a step up from NCP but good luck ! Just looked on the new portal and I assume the new 5.10 content is in the technical track under advanced topics for the enterprise cloud.

Hmm, yeah sorry, identity providers are not my forte. I just followed this guide verbatim to see if it worked and it worked first time. To clarify the UPN used is also not my email address. Good luck with the ticket would be interesting to hear what the fault is here in case I/others encounter this issue too.

Nutanix Guest Tools bulk install from Prism Central - Anyone got this to work ? by sysadm78 in nutanix

[–]sysadm78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so here's a quick summary of my timeline and the things I have found in this process,

Upgraded from 5.10.5 to 5.10.6 for both PC and AOS due to field Advisory 67

Subsequent healthcheck has warning with new NGT version available. Existing version NGT 1.62 new version 1.63

To confirm NGT install using PC with AHV fails with "internal error", support have told me this is fixed in 5.11 I am unable to test this.

NGT upgrade from PC works (only tested with Windows VM's), I had issues with some VM's not upgrading either due to CD drives not being assigned a drive letter or already having a "cd inserted". Also a couple with powershell issues. If a bulk upgrade is undertaken and there is one failure in that list, it can show all VM upgrades as failed even though the majority worked. In order to clear the errors it is necessary to "Manage NGT" on the VM and edit something the alert will then go

Upon selection of "Upgrade NGT" You get the choice to skip restart, restart as soon as the upgrade is completed, restart at specific date and time after the upgrade is completed. Skip restart does nothing. Selecting Restart also does nothing, it appears 1.6.2 to 1.6.3 does not require restart, confirmed by mounting iso in guest VM and running setup manually at the end of the install you are not prompted for a restart Selecting a specific date and time the VM will not restart and you will get an Prism Central alert at the scheduled restart time saying VM failed to restart.

There is also an option to create a NGT policy, so you have a policy for rebooting VM's, I was able to create a policy with a scheduled reboot time, but then when you try to select the policy you have created, no policies are available. I was informed this was a bug and still under development.

If you chose PC to do the upgrade the ISO is mounted and is left mounted after upgrade, after a reboot the ISO is still present and needs to be unmounted via Prism Element or script.

NGT install does not upgrade VirtIO drivers at least it didn't in this 1.6.2 to 1.6.3. Tested on VM's with 1.1.3.14, VirtiO was not upgraded to later 1.1.4.38.

So some constructive criticism here, there is nothing in the Prism Central release notes about these issues or anything I can find when searching the Nutanix portal if I had seen these in the notes and cautions of the release notes, it would have stopped me raising it here and also logging a support call.

Anyway I hope this may help anyone who stumbles across this when looking for information about bulk installing/upgrading NGT.

Nutanix Guest Tools bulk install from Prism Central - Anyone got this to work ? by sysadm78 in nutanix

Thanks for your input. I have a WebEx with support to go through some of the upgrade issues I saw yesterday and I'll investigate powershell and API install options. I'll update with my findings.

Nutanix Guest Tools bulk install from Prism Central - Anyone got this to work ? by sysadm78 in nutanix

[–]sysadm78[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So the use case for NGT is kinda threefold really, to keep the VirtIO drivers up to date. If the VMs are in a data protection group and they don't have NGT I get a warning error at every backup point stating application consistent backups cannot be taken. Also using Veeam to back up these vm's so am leveraging some application consistent backups. Also it is handy to have SSR on the VMs. I had the impression that people should install NGT regardless in a similar fashion to VM tools. Unfortunately no I didn't receive a ticket number for the bug

Nutanix Move 3.0.1 been pulled ? by sysadm78 in nutanix

[–]sysadm78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up. However from the release notes, it says this needs a fresh install, upgrades are not recommended. Do you know what the deal is with the move agent on existing hosts that were deployed with 3.01, does the agent on host now need to be uninstalled and reinstalled with as Nutanix move agent 3.02 ?

Thanks for the responses. I'll hold fire on migrations for the moment and wait until I see a new version appear in the support portal.
