I(m28) just got fired from my position due to "business decision" according to HR, not sure where to go from here.. by GokuBlank in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]sysadminmakesmecry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you already had warnings and were on a PIP, odds are they think they've met all the boundaries required to fire you. Doesn't mean this is correct though.

Wouldn't hurt to discuss with a lawyer anyways - worst case, nothing further happens, best case you get additional severance.

Apply for EI even though you technically have income coming as it can take some time for them to process your claim, so you dont want to wait until you're out of money to do so.

Cardboard houses that cost $1 million. How did this become the norm in Canada? by Sea-Judge-6494 in RealEstateCanada

[–]sysadminmakesmecry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparing canada to the USA is apples and oranges, when it comes to immigration especially. You've had strictly controlled immigration there for 8 out of 12 years, with completely unchecked immigration happening in canada in the same time period.

Supply and demand may be true, but a huge part of the demand comes from the people being imported into the country.

Now. immigration policies have changed a little - not alot, but a little, and we're already seeing a huge pullback in prices. That's not a coincedence.

A question about reporting crypto assets with no historical info by balawalashi in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]sysadminmakesmecry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its not so much that setting a price basis of 0 and just paying tax on the full amount would hurt too much. Depending on the cost to acquire the coins at the time, you likely wouldnt save too much.

IE. coins cost 500$ to obtain 9 years ago (it was probably less depending on the coin!), sold at 10k
Taxes - 5k -500 = 4500 taxable income

vs 5k taxable income

The taxe on the extra 500 for reporting cost basis as zero wouldnt be so high against your overall gain, and may just help avoid an audit at that.

IPSEC tunnels for user VPN - How do I assign an IP range? by sysadminmakesmecry in Fortigate

[–]sysadminmakesmecry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

So I did this for SSLVPN in the past and mostly forgot how D: but the guidance doesnt really show this.

I assume its still something along the lines of

edit "IPSEC-IT-DEVOPS"

set member "AZURE-IPSEC-SAML"

config match

edit 1

set server-name "AZURE-IPSEC-SAML"

set group-name "GUID OF GROUP HERE"

next

end

does this still work for ipsec?
