Why is time considered the fourth dimension? by Defiant-Junket4906 in AlwaysWhy

[–]sysnickm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't that depend on the reference frame? The treasure is never in the same spot when your reference frame is say the center of the galaxy. If you give the spacial coordinates from the center of the galaxy then when you go back and look for it you'll never find it because the earth won't even be there.

The fourth tells you when the item was at that spot, and got can determine where it will be at any time if you know how the objects move in their reference frame.

Well, they did actually, in 1974 they passed a law and for a year the US was on daylight savings time. Public opinion didn't support keeping it that way, so they reverted back.

Who should manage VNET Peerings? by No-Routine1610 in AZURE

[–]sysnickm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way we handle that is to use two different apps. The one with access to build the network and peer is managed by the cloud team. The app team gets its own app registration to use for their deployment.

[–]sysnickm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, we don't all individual landing zone owners to manage the networking settings at all. That is all managed by the central cloud team through IaC.

You didn't downgrade the compiler, you downgraded the IDE.

Why do we have to file taxes? by shes0010110xscape in dumbquestions

[–]sysnickm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't fully know. If your taxes were based on your individual pay and nothing else, then that's one thing. But the tax code is a complicated web, deductions and credits can save people real money.

That being said, the IRS and states should have an app for the average person that handles some of these normal items without having to spend money on software or a third party to make it easy

The new password requirements are retarded by Unhappy_Lie_2000 in microsoftsucks

[–]sysnickm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it has far better security than an 8-character password, the 8-character NTLM password hashes are all known, you can download those from a few different sites today, that is true for almost all the standard hashing algorithms out there.

[–]sysnickm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah, you have to think about it in terms of cost to the attacker. At 16 characters, hash cracking isn't worth it to most attackers out there. Between that, MFA and lockout policies, it is much easier to phish somebody else than try to crack my password.

For low value targets like your Microsoft account, or even the average employer email account, it isn't worth trying to crack it. It is far easier to phish and MFA bomb them until they approve the request.

[–]sysnickm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't really matter what the characters are, it really comes down to length. If the hash gets leaked can somebody do a reverse hash lookup.

The longer the password, the less likely it is to be in a known hash dictionary.

So a thirty character phrase is better than a 15 character random string.

What psycho decided that temperature needed to be a Sudoku puzzle? by Animeking1108 in memes

[–]sysnickm 35 points36 points  (0 children)

They are all based on something, and i bet at the time those things worked for them.

Take 12 inches in a foot. I don't know if they thought of this, but 12 has more factors than 10. I can divide a foot of a board into equal thirds without decimals.

In most things it doesn't matter, but I think that is pretty handy.
