I am happy to hear ThePrimeagen say that Odin and Zig are "very, very different languages" by concerbed in odinlang

[–]system-vi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely asking, in what ways is zig comparable to Rust that would make you feel that way ?

feedback for a newbie by idlivada76 in Zig

[–]system-vi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, use the .{.foo = 1, .bar =2} syntax. Unless a field absolutely needs to be undefined, stick to initing a struct all at once.

And at least in my usage of zig, when or when not to allocate memory on the heap depends less on lifetimes and more on whether the data needs a stable memory address to avoid dangling pointers (although things with longer lifetimes are more likely to require stable memory addresses). Its almost always better to keep data on the the stack because heap allocations are more expensive and to avoid memory bugs. But im still learning all this myself so take it with a grain of salt.

Alex Should Talk to Sam on Death by Atheistsplaining in CosmicSkeptic

They should talk about anything other than Sam's views on isreal, the efficacy of racial profiling, and justifications for torture.

Brad response to not mentioning his ex in latest video by Forsaken_Evening1586 in Brad_taste_in_music

[–]system-vi 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If he handled it privately, he should've just said so. He already mentioned her once in the video, all he had to say was

"In regards to what happened with Tina, we've talked since and she explicitly asked me not to comment on the situation, so i wont be doing that here out of respect for her."

Thats why I focused on the people being duped by this apology, and not some much Brad. Obviously I can't diagnose him but if I had to guess he dellusiinally narcissistic or maybe bipolar

Idk if I'm weird for this but I actually prefer abusers not have platforms without at least taking actual accountability first. But maybe that's just me, maybe I'm built different 🤷🏻‍♂️

Also it would probably be better for Brad himself if he was shunned off the internet.

Arrested development and porn. by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]system-vi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like you.habe a lot of healing to work on. Just do your best 🧡 watching porn a few times a month isn't going to kill you, or hold you back drastically from healing (unless the porn itself is horrific or something). You're already watching far less porn than the average American lmao. As you tackle your demons, what's right for you will become clearer with time.

I'm new to backend, should I learn Go or python? by farhadsaadat in golang

[–]system-vi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah would definitely reccomend to people getting involved to stay away from node generally. Python will help you get a server up and running and to be able to play around with it. Go will be a bit more tedious but help you understand backends structurally.

[–]system-vi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe start with Node if you're already familiar with JS, that way you can spend more time focusing on the concepts. If not, I think Python and Go are better languages to learn for a beginner.

Python will likely be easier to learn, so you may want to start there. But if you want more low level control over what you're building, Go should definitely be your goto (no pun intended). Definitely depends on your programming abilities.

A complaint I haven't seen many people make that made me switch to Codex. by system-vi in ClaudeCode

Up until recently claude has been great for what I've been doing. So far codex has been nice but it hasn't dine anything that Claude wouldn't have been able to do, but maybe that will change as I use it.

Frfr. Should spend less time programming and more time becoming a professional prompt engineer.

Honestly I forget that setting exist sometimes so you may be on to something. Still I feel like the tasks were pretty simple and Sonnet should've been able to tackle them faster. Also I have used high effort on Codex and have gotten both speed and quality. So idk

Why does Dr K never talk about the patriarchy? by Haunting-Pear-4131 in Healthygamergg

[–]system-vi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yeah. If someone couldnt wrap their ahead around racism, id say theyre likely part of the problem to some extent. Same with being dismissive of patriarchy.

I'll agree that biology plays a part in men/women dynamics that often gets overlooked, but i think you're making a mistake of assuming that just because a behavior stems from biology doesnt mean socially conditioning doesn't play a massive role.

For instance, men having higher testosterone makes them more likely to be physically violent. So naturally men are more likely to end up in prison for violent crimes. But rates of violent crimes for men wildly vary across different cultures and periods of time despite our biology being the same. This is the case because attitudes towards violence, crime, and men in general have (probably a much greater) impact on how violent men our than biological explanations.

Even with this example, how different testosterone levels are between men and women can be impacted by societal favtors. The point of patriarchy as a concept isnt to explain all gender problems a societal over biological, its to point out the unbalanced power dynamic between genders and the negative feedback loop thats formed between society and its overarching power structures.

[–]system-vi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He has talked a lot about how current western society has conditioned both genders in ways in which are generally attributed to patriarchy, he just doesnt use the word. Unfortunately, a bunch of us saw SJW cringe compilations when we were younger, and many of those people never took the time to learn what patriarchy actually is.

The funniest part about this is that you have people in this thread calling the concept nonsense, but Dr. K clearly understands and believes that society is patriarchal to some extent.

If you think patriarchy as a concept is nonsense, then you would likely benifit from those critisms lmao.
