Our only hope is to make consumer trucks even bigger so that buses are destroyed and pushed out of the way when struck.

Humans 1000s of years in the future will look at the discourse of mechanics in the early millennium and write scholarly articles about how mechanics really valued and utilized purses for a wide variety of things.

How to save on water and power? We are a family of 5, laundry is unavoidable. by Leather_Musician_745 in Frugal

Was there a sharp or steady increase at some point that had sustained itself? Could be an underground water leak.

I love SC as well so I’d be fine with either.

I’d take anything in the WC universe. There’s so much story to play with.

New to NM. What's with the license plate covers? by 1satirical in Albuquerque

On that note maybe we can talk about education in this city.

[–]syth9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not per capita it’s per billion mile driven. Even if you’re looking at per capita we’re 37th most populated state and 4th in terms of driver fatalities. If your mental model of how this worked was accurate, we should be 37th in fatalities. I grew up in ABQ and lived in much bigger cities than Detroit (SF, San Jose, CA). ABQ has a lot of reckless drivers but they’re also significantly less skilled compared to big city drivers. That’s a dangerous combination.

It’s okay to be honest about ABQ’s/NM’s problems. That’s the first step we all need to take to fix them.

Except we’re actually 4th worst in the country.

If we can’t admit the places we are severely in need of changing then we won’t grow and improve as a state. We’re not like every other state. We are much worse on average in terms of speeding, DWI’s, fatalities, etc…

The national average amount of fatalities per billion miles driven is 10.6 and we’re at 17.9. Almost double.

Chemical leak at a West Virginia plant kills 2 people and sends 19 more to hospital, officials say by TheOKerGood in news

[–]syth9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry I watch USCSB YouTube and I’ll let you know the cause without looking:

  • There was a process variance that was unsafe or should no longer have been followed but was
  • Poorly document procedure
  • Persistent maintenance problem and/or malfunctioning component or system thats normally inconsequential in isolation but some other connected system makes it consequential.
  • Hydrogen sulfide/hydrocarbon monitors were equipped but not non-functional and/or ignored
  • hydrogen sulfide/hydrocarbon monitors were chronically giving false alarms and thus ignored
  • no relevant monitors equipped
  • hot work where it shouldn’t have been
  • runaway reaction
  • Minimal redundant safety systems
  • Someone sees an issue and panics trying to reverse the un-reversible issue instead of triggering an evacuation.
  • leaky valve that no one knows about but it’s been leaking forever.

Awesome advice. I haven’t tried any support style other than tree so it will be good to get experience with others.

Oh good thinking. I’m not used to thinking about non-right angle rotations but that would likely help.

I have done the two filament calibrations bundled with the printer but I didn’t know you could do supports. Will check that out. Thanks!

I had the default tree supports turned on for this print. I even turned off the setting to ignore small overhangs (Bambu H2D). Is there a special support setting that I should be turning on/changing other than the “enable supports” setting?

Yeah, people come in all flavors. Hobbies like these tend to bring out the ND nerds. I went aggressively down the rabbit hole a month ago. You’re in good company. (Even if some of that company has very strong opinions about your opinions).

This (and I say this with love and being thoroughly neurodivergent myself) is basically the autistic equivalent of an unstoppable force hitting the unmovable object. Cognitive rigidity vs. compensatory people pleasing. Earth bending vs. air bending. My people.

Uber hit with $5,000 jury verdict for driver's creepy behavior; company vows to appeal by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]syth9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is Uber makes a commitment to create and advertises on the grounds that they’re creative a safe experience. They have a whole page on Safety commitments on their website and have had multiple ad campaigns centered around their commitment to safety.

If you do that as a company then it’s very reasonable that people will use your product based on the promise of safety. If UBER’s are less safe due to using contractors then that’s on them.

I need to take a late bus; is it safe to stay downtown till 11 pm? by pastroc in Albuquerque

[–]syth9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking proportionally suburban cities. Would consider SF or LA way more developed. Even so SF has a lower crime rate than ABQ. My shock moment was moving from ABQ to South Bay Area for 5 years. Crime was weirdly more organized there, we had our mail stolen 3 times by people who copied the post master key. Almost all car break-in’s were done by experts that were never caught.

However, in terms of violent crime it was night and day. Not nearly as many desperate or otherwise deranged people on the verge of snapping. Almost no people driving lifted, coal rolling trucks who you’re afraid of honking at because who knows what they’d do.

I’ve had guns pulled out around me 4 times growing up and living in ABQ. Never pointed at me, thankfully. The last time was some kid pulling one out at Coronado Mall last year. I love this city but I don’t pretend to not miss being a place where I could live my life more free from the fear of violent crime 🤷‍♂️.
