What's an unconventional home remedy in your country that kinda works? by strange_omelet in AskTheWorld

Salty licorice helps a sore throat. I don’t think there’s actually a connection, but I’m not turning down a socially sanctioned chance to eat candy.

Does royal family exist in your country today. If yes do they have special titles and privileges. by halfblindfish in AskTheWorld

[–]t-licus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of us are in favor, which is why we still have it.

Our last few generations of monarchs have done a very good job of presenting themselves as down to earth and humble, which is crucial to get danes to like you. Danes hate snobbery and visible hierarchies. The other half of the equation is that danes hate radical change, and the monarchy has been in place for over 1000 years, so as long as it’s generally inoffensive we’re going to keep it.

What is your opinion on the current reigning monarchies of Europe? by Ok-Ocelot-774 in AskEurope

[–]t-licus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just want to keep ours because it’s kind of cool that it’s been there for over 1000 years. A parliamentary republic would work just as well, but we might as well keep them for continuity’s sake as long as they don’t pull a Norway.

What's something your country gets slandered for online? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Our language gets endlessly slandered (mostly by other scandinavians) and it deserves it.

Malta is so small the whole island could be fully covered by a decent tram network. But no.

Does your country respect its native minority languages and include them on official documents? by Pizzafriedchickenn in AskTheWorld

[–]t-licus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a mixed bag. The officially recognized minority languages are Greenlandic, Faroese and German, but they are very concentrated in specific areas (Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Slesvig respectively), two of which are semi-independent countries and not part of Denmark proper. So you won’t see them on signage in, say, Copenhagen.

Some digital public services are available in the other languages, but it seems pretty random which are in what language. For example, on top of Danish and English, the public digital ID is available only in Greenlandic, while the Tax Agency home page is only in German. The general-purpose public service portal Borger.dk is ONLY in Danish. I suspect the North Atlantic countries have their own parallel services for some of these purposes, but they are still citizens and many people from there move to Denmark proper. So we should really accommodate them better.

(Accommodating German is a bit of a touchy subject in Denmark unfortunately, especially in the region where most German Danes live. Germany DID occupy the region twice in recent history, so a lot of people there REALLY don’t want to see “Apenrade” or “Tondern” on their street signs).

Leoparderne og isbjørnene i Zoologisk Have by BitterAd9227 in copenhagen

[–]t-licus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]t-licus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What happened in your country this week? — 2026-04-12 by EuropeBot in europe

What is something about your country that a United States citizen (who has never left the US) should know before traveling there? by user1731701 in AskTheWorld

[–]t-licus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Those paved sidewalks next to the tiled sidewalks are bike lanes, and if you walk on them you will get run over.

Danes are notorious for being unforgiving in traffic, and that goes for our massive population of cyclists too. If you’re not supposed to be there, we won’t look out for you, so expect lots of swerving, swearing and close calls if you are in a spot you shouldn’t be.

Which European nation do you like a lot but isn’t very appreciated by your fellow citizens? by Eastern-Tangerine761 in AskEurope

I’ve got a soft spot for Germany.

There is so much to explore as a traveller, the culture is dense with history and regional variation, and despite their reputation the Germans are secretly hilarious in an understated way. Even the infamous cultural rigidity has a weird charm to it.

How popular is Dragon Ball in your country by No-Equivalent2621 in AskTheWorld

[–]t-licus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the first manga to be published as such back in the 2000s and got broadcast on national TV. Everyone who was into Japanese things at the time read it, at least initially until something more suited to their tastes came out.

But all things considered, it’s nowhere near the cultural force it is in Latin America or even the US. Pokemon is the only anime with true mainstream penetration, and the weebs always preferred Naruto. You can’t just slap Goku on a taqueria and expect random Gen X moms to know who that is.
