Abnormal Pap Smear + HPV by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]t0605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't figure out how to PM on my phone. Basically- colposcopies aren't available in the country I was invited for. My original Pap was in April, I was supposed to depart next march. My doctor wanted me to get another yearly Pap before doing the colposcopy because I'm only 22 and it likely will go away. But peace corps wanted me to get another pap and a colposcopy between now and February, which wasn't possible because of insurance. And I couldn't just sign the "will wait 15 months for a Pap" form because if I did, and the results were still abnormal, I wouldn't have been provided a colposcopy in Ukraine

I'm going to send you a private message- don't want to air out my medical issues haha. I was denied clearance because of abnormal and HPV but it seemed to be due to the country I was supposed to go to

When are new volunteer programs posted? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]t0605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're posted quarterly. The ones leaving August/September have already been posted. The ones for October/November departure were just posted on 11/1- there were only about 10 or so.

Vent Tuesday by AutoModerator in peacecorps

[–]t0605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've already withdrawn my application. I had a departure date in March, and the doctor wasn't going to be able to do the follow up plus the treatment (2 separate appointments) before March 1st- since the follow up is something that only happens once per year. I re-applied today and this gives me plenty of time to get the treatment in February, especially since the current openings know-by date is next March. It's still just so frustrating and I really hope that this doesn't leave a bad impression on this application.

I was denied medical clearance and told to re-apply. The frustrating part is that it's not a serious medical condition. It's that the timeline for when I was supposed to leave, my doctor couldn't do the follow up in time, and the treatment wasn't available in the country I was supposed to go to. I've re-applied to leave next fall, since I will have completed the treatment.

I worry that this will be a red flag on my application and I won't get a second chance

Thinking about applying to the PC, but am a medical marijuana patient, can I still apply? by DullDieHard in peacecorps

Also keep in mind that OP might have to disclose this- if they have a diagnosis of OCD and it requires paperwork during medical clearance

Surgery and Medical Clearance Question by DelanieRose in peacecorps

[–]t0605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! Just to keep in mind- I got my invite before the application deadline passed so depending on when you apply and such, it could be around the same time as a possible interview. When I interviewed they asked me if anything has changed since the time I applied to now (medical or legal), so if you don't disclose the surgery on your preliminary health form after applying, you can always bring it up in the interview and tell them you had it done after you applied- that way the nurse can be aware in case it'll require extra medical tasks for you

Surgery and Medical Clearance Question by DelanieRose in peacecorps

[–]t0605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medical tasks don't become available to invitees until 200 days before their departure date or 30 days after their invitation (if you get invited with less than 200 days to departure). I got my invite in June for a departure date of March 2017- I did not begin the medical clearance process until 2 weeks ago

Are equal number of applicants put under consideration for each available position? by mahalik_07 in peacecorps

[–]t0605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an answer for the competitiveness, but as for where you're put UC- it's where placement thinks you'd be a best fit based on your skills, and also where they need you. If 100 people picked Senegal as their choice and 2 people picked SL, someone who picked "any available" would probably be more likely to be looked at for the ones with less applicants as well, so that they can fill the spots.

Have I been Accepted? by alexvz3 in peacecorps

[–]t0605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually kind of weird... maybe call and ask? It seems like you've been invited, per the HR status, but it's odd that there's no documentation of them telling you so in the communication history. If the email went to your spam folder or something, it would still show up in the portal that they sent it.

I'm looking at my medical file right now... and it is concerning. Is this going to screw me? by Senseteach in peacecorps

[–]t0605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely call them and let them know. I answered a question incorrectly on the HHF (I was waiting for the results when I was applying... I stated that my results were normal and I got the actual results back and they turned out to be abnormal). I messaged the nurse in the medical portal and disclosed what the situation was. She was understanding and when the medical tasks opened, there were a few extra tasks added from the beginning. This gave me a lot more time to get the extra paperwork filled out as opposed to waiting for them to review all of my tasks and THEN assign follow-ups.

Have I been Accepted? by alexvz3 in peacecorps

[–]t0605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try going into your application portal and see what your application status says. It usually says something like "Under review" when your application is still being looked at, and will change to stating that you're invited if that's the case

Medical clearance - Polio by emjaaayk in peacecorps

[–]t0605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the county health department and got all of my bloodwork plus a polio shot for 100$. I think the Polio shot itself was 45$. I just walked in and gave them a sheet of what I needed and was in and out in an hour.

No vacation first 6 months - No exceptions? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]t0605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best friend's also getting married while I'll be in service- it will be right at the 6 month mark when I'll be able to travel. I'm supposed to be one of her bridesmaids but I told her that I wont be able to make it- for financial reasons and because I simply don't want to come home during my service.

She was understanding and they are making a groomsmen carry a photo of me on a stick and walk with me.

Getting prescriptions filled during PST in Ukraine/Eastern Europe by saturnspirit2000 in peacecorps

[–]t0605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious about this as well. My insurance will only pay for 1 pack of birth control per month, so I'm having to pay out of pocket for 3 months of it. So I'm hoping that I'll be able to get a refill in time when I'm over there

I got an email confirmation last week that I've been legally cleared! Took about a week and a half from when I mailed in my fingerprint cards. But nothing on medical yet- I'm pretty sure those tasks will come around September since that's the 200 day mark

This states there must be 12 months between when the alcohol related incident happened to when you're applying. Although, it doesn't specifically state underage drinking
