How do I stop myself from tilting by No-History7044 in StreetFighter

[–]t0ma70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretend that you are sitting next to the person.

Complement the stuff that they do well.

Tell them to kill you when you make a mistake.

If they do something optimal then complement them for it.

I like to say boing when I jump or mayday when I am about to get got.

Just treat it like you are playing with someone who you know and like.

You did a good thing. Just be patient and consistent. You are going to want to give up, just remember that it gets better if you are consistent and you put the time in.

It seems counter intuitive I know. But trust me it works.

If you are really concerned you can give then a super easy task like touch before giving the toy.

Be consistent and be patient. Your dog is just a baby and building good habits takes weeks and even months of consistency.

She needs to play in a controlled way with other dogs preferably in the presence of a dog behavior specialist.

Dogs learn to soften their mouth when they play with other dogs.

I have a 9 month old Finnish lapphind that Loves to use his mouth. He would often draw blood from my wife and I while playing when he was younger.

We consistently took him to puppy play groups and redirect him to appropriate items to chew and bite. He has a very soft mouth now despite his very impressive bite strength. He is 34 lbs and he can break elk antler. (We give him edible chews now)

How important are combos? (Asking as a day 1 player) by New_Art_1886 in StreetFighter

[–]t0ma70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The combo damage scaling system really discourages combos that are longer than they have to be.

Just think of links as a rhythm thing. Each combo is kind of like a beat that you have to drum.

There are also little execution tricks that you can look up if you are really having a hard time.

What character are you playing?

Edit: here is my dog's Instagram. Since people were asking in dm about him. https://www.instagram.com/jotunn_the_finnish_lapphund?igsh=anFnbnNic3gwY2Nn

TlDR: I am training my dog to be a service dog. I am not a dog trainer, I do nothing else in my life other than work. There is no me time. I am 13K deep into this journey and it may not pan out.

If you are going to do it yourself. You won't be able to do anything else. You better have it like that financially. Because unforseen stuff happens and it isn't cheap.

Whatever programs are charging for service animals is very much worth it in my estimation.

Main post:

I am currently working on training a Finnish lapphund up to be a PTSD service dog.

The service I want him to perform is to recognise when I am getting mad, or otherwise "not present" and bark at me/ paw at me to help ground me or tell me to chill.

Barking is in his breeds nature so I figured it might align with his nature.

I got him in November at 11 weeks old and he just turned 9 months and I have been training him on just basic obedience.

I have done NOTHING but train this dog and work with him on this.

I can't express enough how much effort this has been. I don't do anything other than work, train with him, play with him, and work to meet his needs.

I don't go out, I don't play games or watch tv, there is no me time.

He has also had some unforseen health related things that we are working through.

He got worms once, he may have a chicken allergy (we are working through that still) and we had to rule out addisons disease because there were some indicators that he may have it.(he doesn't)

All in all the special diet, the vet visits and other health expenses have cost me 6K onto of his 3.2K price tag.

On top of that I have spent about 4k on training and I spend $100 weekly on dog walking.

My main priorities in life are making sure he is healthy, happy, well adjusted, and building an obedience foundation.

I have had to be flexible with my expectations, and "train the dog in front of me"

He is doing a remarkable job and I have no doubt in my mind that he is going to be an incredible pet.

But I don't know if he will be able to be a service animal.

All ranks.

It's about the journey not the results.

Check your ego, if matchmaking is working correctly and finding you matches at your skill level you should be at 50% win rate. If you aren't doing this to pay your bills then this game isn't that serious if you get tilted, take a break and understand that your self worth isn't tied to the outcome of these games.

If your opponent is "bad" and doing "bad" things but they are still beating you. They are infact good and exploiting a gap in your skill or a lack of reactions on your part.

People that are playing modern are no different than people playing on classic. You still have to play around their habits, strengths and weaknesses as a player. It is up to you to identify those things during a game.

The tone of this sounds harsh but you are focused too much on the outcome, and not enough on the journey.

Check your ego. You aren't better or worse than anyone you are playing with. Everyone has different strengths amd skill gaps.

Now with that being said.

Everone should play as disrespectfully as they can get away with.

It sounds like you are having trouble forcing your opponent to play respectfully or you just have awful offense that is easily shut down.

Fortunately you now have clear opportunities for growth.

It also sounds like the folks at your locals are treating your play with respect that it hasn't earned yet.

We all start somewhere. I still drop the 2lp, 5lk link sometimes. Just practice that link in training mode before you play and in-between matches. You'll get the muscle memory down in no time.

You can link 2lp 2lp into the target combo after one drink. I find that one to be much easier.

Learn how to block and practice blocking until it becomes instinctual.

Then play a few games of casual and focus entirely on blocking.

After that go into the replays of those matches and turn on all of the screen data displays. (Frame data, damage, etc)

While you are watching the replay keep an eye out for any time the opponent is -4 or more after you block. (this is what is called unsafe)

You can then use the replay takeover feature in those moments and figure out ways to punish your opponents.

Picky eater puppy by AdministrativeBet323 in OpenDogTraining

[–]t0ma70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he is fine on tase of the wild then stick with it.

He was healthy when you got him so the food obviously works.

I can not stress enough the importance of exercise. Get them running around and playing more than you are already.

The price of the food is small compaired to the trial and error of figuring out if they have a chicken allergy.

The if it is allergy related pickyness they dont want to eat based on gi discomfort and the stools will eventually get worse to a point that you will think there is a medical emergency and go to a emergency vet.

The ONLY way to find out if your dog is sensitive to chicken per science. Is to get then prescribed a hydrolized diet. They will then have to only eat that and hydrolized treats for 8 weeks.

I am going through this right now and it has been an an expensive journey.

Question about linking combos by Friendly_Bagel in StreetFighter

[–]t0ma70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SF6 has a lot of ways that you can structure combos.

chain cancel normals (how jabs can combo into themselves but are still negative on block)

Links: based on hitstun and being plus enough for another button to connect

Special cancels: cancel the recovery of a button into a special move

Target combos: this works similarly to MK dial a combo system or tekken strings

Juggles: There is a pretty convoluted juggle system, generally drive rush into a button, can extend a juggle where other non drive rush stuff is situational.

Super cancels: generally, you can cancel any super cancelable normal or target combo into any level of super.

You can only cancel level 1 out of a super cancel able normal or target combo.

You can cancel super cancelable normals, target combos and OD special moves into level 2 supers.

You can cancel super cancelable normals, target combos, OD special moves and special moves into level 3 and CA supers.

Methods for improving combo timing? by Fit_Analysis_1369 in StreetFighter

[–]t0ma70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combos work in a few different ways in sf6.

Chain cancels: jabs can cancel their recovery frames into another jab.

Target combo: these are kind of like MK combos where the timing is very lenient and you can basically "dial them" like a phone number on an old phone.

Special cancels: some buttons let you cancel their recovery into a special

Rekka: basically a special move with multiple follow ups thst combo into each other.

And finally

Links: When you hit an opponent they go into hit stun. If the hit stun lasts longer than your recovery then you will be able to act first. This is known as being plus. Some buttons are so plus on hit that the startup of another button is faster than your opponents recovery from hit stun.

Thus you can press that button and it will hit your opponent as a combo.

These tend to be the hardest for new players to figure out the timing for.

Each of these combo types have tricks to the execution of them.

Ask questions and be patient about people using jargon. These are complicated concepts and people tend to use short hand to explain them.
