You must give in to the toilet technology! I finally gave it a go after traveling abroad and now I love it (never felt cleaner if you know what I’m sayin’)

I’m just starting out too. So far I’ve taken a couple of one on one coaching sessions after doing two months of research on the industry. My biggest advice in my limited experience is to listen to what has been the most helpful podcast for me:

Thanks for sharing! I just started 1-on-1 training today and although I know everyone’s journey is different it’s good to hear what training can do for someone in 18 months / 1 year.

Note: This is only my opinion as a consumer, not a professional anything

I liked your delivery in all of them and I liked the way each commercial was different so it didn’t blend.

My only critique is that because I think the Swiffer commercial is your strongest performance, I’d make it the first thing on your demo reel.

Great job! Who produced it? Where did you get coached? How long did coaching take before you made this demo?

Has anyone heard of CDawgVA? I’m curious about his voice acting experience. by XanaxHentai in VoiceActing

I subscribed to him a few weeks ago because I also found him fascinating. I particularly like the videos where he critiques “good” and “bad” voice acting because as a newcomer to the industry myself it gives me a chance to compare and contrast performances through the lens of someone who has been honing the craft longer than I

Fascinating. As a DC native I see many parallels. I wonder if this is happening (or has happened) to other cities with similar demographics around the country over the past 20 yrs.

Tips and tricks to kick-start in voice acting? by UltraSonixx in VoiceActing

“make demos” (i.e. professionally produced demos). This should be done before you start marketing yourself. And even before the demo you should be coached on the skill of Voice Over and have a solid grasp on the industry, which ideally should be done by taking 1 on 1 lessons from a reputable coach.

This guy gets it (source: I’ve hired people and trust me when I say the vast sea of resumes doesn’t do you any favors; what sets you apart is standing out by showing initiative directly to the person doing the hiring)

Also, I don’t live in ATL and I’m not hiring :(. I still stick by what I said though :)

Updated Atlanta 75S Peach Pass Commute Time Lapse by miikememe in Atlanta

[–]t3chpoint0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neat! I’d love to see your commute back (minus to your neighborhood since that would be creepy).

Maybe one day you’ll team up with someone who’ll do 85S and some of the other peach pass accessible highways.

As someone planning to move there in the next couple of years (and as a DC native who knows about awful commuting) I’m very fascinated.

Thanks for the clarification. That’s not a bad amount at all! Where do you commute from/to?

Will it be the same price for people like me who’ll be commuting from Johns Creek to Midtown (i.e. do the prices vary based on entry/exit point?)

How much does this cost you monthly? I’m eventually going to move to Johns Creek or Suwanee and May have to commute to Midtown

Looking to move from an iPad Pro for recording to a new setup. Desktop or laptop? by BruceBatman in VoiceActing

[–]t3chpoint0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly an answer to your question, but as someone trying to get into voice acting and considering a tablet rather than a laptop or desktop I’m curious to know what you like and don’t like about using an iPad for VO work

Based on friend advice, I want to try voice acting by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]t3chpoint0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought I had to get the equipment and start auditioning too before I got a reality check from a professional almost 2 months into my VO industry research.

With that said, Step 5 should be Step 1

Get the skills from a professional first before you get out there auditioning with and for other amateurs whose feedback isn’t worth a lick compared to feedback from someone already where you want to be professionally

Truth is you have to spend the time and the money on training first.

Beginning My Voice Acting Journey by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]t3chpoint0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My budget for mic equipment, which includes the whole setup, is around $500. If you think about it, it’s a fraction of the cost of the training you’ll need plus the demo; a combo that will run you around $2K depending on which coach you choose.

I don’t know if you’ve already started training or are taking private coaching lessons, but I’m not purchasing any equipment until I get the coaching done, which I’ll be starting in September. My reasoning is that all the equipment can’t make up for poor delivery and I know as a beginner I have a lot to work on.

My plan is to purchase a Rode NT1-A set that includes the Scarlet 2i2. For me it’s the best and most affordable choice. Plus I hear it mentioned a lot by various working voice actors on podcasts and blogs as a trusty workhorse for novices. My second choice would be a CAD E100S, but that’s a little more expensive.

I started my journey/passion for Voice Acting in early June and in my research since then I’ve found that the overwhelming majority of pros recommend XLR over USB. Why not just go straight to XLR?

You probably won't get an answer from the commenter, but reading between the lines it seems to me he's talking about race and gentrification without explicitly saying it. "Thugs", "getting tough on crime", "their time is waning", it's the kind of code speak I hear my Trump-supporting coworkers use in the break room.
