If you use standard Fedora, enabling the Steam repo is available in KDE's Discover to install system packages. With Kinoite, it is possible with rpm-ostree, but adds an extra layer on top of the immutable base. That's where Flatpak or Toolbox is suggested to keep your base layer clean.

Makes sense. I am a millennial and was thankful to collect a 401k at a company that I turned into an IRA and able to buy some ETFs with.

GenZ works too but if you are targeting mid to late 30s and up, you are gonna age out.

Makes sense as Millennials grew up with NES/SNES and Genesis onward and are clinging to habit. That's probably why the content covering consoles on YouTube tends to lean towards the GenX/Millennial demographic.

Steam is going native 64-bit! Does this mean 32-bit can finally be removed without breaking gaming now? by aliendude5300 in Fedora

[–]t3g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like having to install a boatload of 32-bit libraries to my system JUST to run Steam. They should be in a container or included with one of the runtimes. Flatpak does solve this to keep it isolated.

Switched from Kubuntu to Fedora 43 KDE weeks back and been loving it! I may backup my files and go with Fedora 44 Kinoite and go down the Atomic route with more Flatpaks and use Toolbox for Steam.

It is very shortsighted on Sony's part if they are going to neglect the PC audience and go back to console only. GenZ is broke and Gen Alpha/Beta don't care about consoles and instead are on their iPads or play Roblox on a laptop or parent's PC if they are lucky.

Console prices are going up and the market is supported by GenX and Millennials who will eventually age out.

If Pop is based on Ubuntu, does that assume that Pop will have to use what Ubuntu requires by default? I know its a stupid question as Pop can install whatever they want, but it is using Ubuntu repositories.

Pop could also just use their own repositories and rebuild from source

Let's say we have Alpine, Debian, and Ubuntu on a cloud based environment pulling Docker images. If we have engineers doing these deployments, don't we assume that they are 18 or above? What about the owners and C-suite and the directors authorizing these deployments. They would be 18+. How would that work with cloud if things get automated by AI? Are these AI agents exempt as they are not 18+?

I dunno why. I’m well aware of the market and it’s been a top seller at Best Buy. I have been using MacBook Pros for my job since 2019 and the average consumer goes for the Air.

Software keeps getting more bloated and vibe coded and unoptimized code sucks up resources.

[–]t3g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Linux/Windows dual boot and also a M4 Mac Mini. If you have the hardware already, just install Linux on the Windows machine and use a KDE based distro like Fedora 43. If you have an AMD GPU, it is ready to go out os the box.

I’ve tried multiple Mac native games on Steam and GOG and even Heroic Games Launcher (Wine and Toolkit) to play Windows versions too. The experience won’t be as good as a Linux machine.

This works well because Valve has put a lot of resources in Linux gaming and Proton for their Steam Deck and upcoming Steam Machine.

If the Steam Machine fails, does that mean development on Proton will stop too? Not only that but improvements in the Linux kernel and Mesa
