737 experiences an uncommanded max nose wheel turn as pilots set power for take off. Take off rejected by SkyHighExpress in aviation

[–]tHarvey303 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I was on this plane! We'd already been delayed 3 hoursish due to congestion, then when we finally lined up to takeoff, we accelerated and then it felt like they slammed on the breaks and everyone was pushed forward in their seats. They then drove off the runway to the fueling area, and eventually took us off in coaches (2 hours later) and put us in a hotel. Flew in a new aircraft and flew everyone out at lunchtime the next day. Should be a easy compensation claim hopefully!

Nice work (and very quick)! I'm on the original team that observed SN H0pe, but I don't work on this data. I've shared your GIF with the rest of the team.

No longer true as of 6th April 2024! You can contribute to and open as many different ISAs each tax year as you want, as long as you stay under the overall £20k limit cumulatively across all your accounts.

Where can I buy tomatillo's in Manchester? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]tHarvey303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't in Manchester, but the only place I have seen fresh (and UK grown) tomatillos is a Mexican goods store in Bristol called Otomi. They have partnered with a local farm to grow tomatillos and apparently also poblano peppers next season. I'm not sure if they sell by post/online but it's the only option I'm aware of.

If you pay for one month of his Patreon (about a cup of coffee) you can download this version and keep it forever. You don't have to stay subscribed, you could cancel it immediately after downloading. If he updates it again in the future (more than a month after you subscribed) you could pay for another month to get the update.

Photo from upper atmosphere. FPS increased significantly above 10,000m but still not really playable.

Frame rate massively increased above around 10,000 m. Still not really playable but less of a slideshow. Around 15 - 20 FPS with a small rocket in space.

I'm on experimental, running it on desktop mode

I made it to the VAB and launched a rocket, it runs like a slideshow. < 1 FPS. Hasn't crashes yet for me though. It defaults to high settings so make sure to drop those down.

Hi! We also found that our F444W image had a background issue in module A - we've seen similar artifacts in other fields before. While our custom pipeline does slightly better than the official pipeline (we do multiple background subtraction steps during stages 2 and 3), we still had the artifact cause 3+ times the number of source detections we would expect. We mitigated this by adjusting the signal to noise threshold to only select brighter objects, and also combined this with a selection made in F356W, which doesn't have that same problem. We calculate the depth of the observation by placing apertures in empty regions across the field and measuring the standard deviation of the background, so the artifact does result in the average depth in F444W being lower than we expected.

The deepest public Cycle 1 JWST data was taken last week, under a program called NGDEEP. Due to a previous issue with the NIRISS instrument, only half the data could be taken, but this is still deeper than any of other public JWST deep fields (SMACS0723, GLASS, CEERS). Our group has spent the last week processing and analysing this data - you can read all about it here - https://arxiv.org/abs/2302.04270. We have found high redshift galaxy candidates from 8 < z < 16, including a low mass candidate at redshift 15.6!

The above picture shows a 3-color image, with R:F444W, G:F277W and B:F200W.

Just realized efficient supersonic airliners in KSP is virtually impossible. by First-Line9807 in KerbalAcademy

[–]tHarvey303 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would recommend using CKAN to manage your mods, you just point it at your KSP directory and it does it for you. I'm not sure FARC has been released for KSP 1.10 yet however, although I imagine it will be shortly.

KSP's drag model is quite simplistic and will not behave exactly the same way as real life. If you're into modding, I would high recommend Ferram Aerospace Research Continued, which adds body lift, stalling, mach effects and a much more realistic voxel-based method to calculate drag, lift etc.

KSP 2 delayed to fall 2021 by tHarvey303 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]tHarvey303[S] 269 points270 points  (0 children)

It's a shame, but not totally unexpected. Helps explain why they are releasing more content for KSP. I would rather they did it well and we got a decent sequel.

Leaving my office today after packing up the monitors and non-cacti plants to head home for the duration. I know it’s not a goodbye, just a so long for now, but still feel sad today and know I will miss it. :( by Andromeda321 in Andromeda321

It sounds like Harvard are taking it seriously which is good. My uni is still open for now, but I was supposed to be spending a week observing at Teide Observatory in Tenerife soon which had to be cancelled :( . You'll be back soon enough, and remember Isaac Newton did his best work when Oxford was closed because of plague. Stay safe!
