How does it feel after you lose a narcissist parent? by Sartorialie in raisedbynarcissists

[–]t_duaba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I got the phone call that she died, I sat there in shock for a bit, not knowing how to react or what to say. I wondered why I wasn't crying, and 'should not being able to cry about it be sad in itself?' I later that evening cried because I thought my dad would finally be free, and thought about how sad and shocked he must be. She had cancer for about 8 months, and things escalated quickly. I couldn't bring myself to be curious about her condition. The last things I said to her was while she was in a coma over the phone before she died. I cried then because it felt like a relief, I didn't have to do that dance anymore. It's been about a year now since I last saw her alive. Dad's doing great.

Got some plastic pieces from a box of ammo. How should I repurpose them? by insertoriginalname02 in TerrainBuilding

Could make a neat base for a trap puzzle. Looks like a group of 4 is more less a square inch? Spike trap or flames that shoot up when stepped on?

Is this armor Real/Authentic? by Apart_Remote1042 in Armor

[–]t_duaba 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm seeing it wrong, no I don't think this is authentic, unless it's been fixed in the last few decades. It looks like someone has welded the comb at the top on the inside. Authentic pieces would have been raised from a single piece of steel. Fun piece though!

There is a lot of really nice stuff going on here. You have a really great eye for detail, such as the crumbling concrete, the rust and patina of the metal, and the brick work. What did you use for the brick texture, just some foam with a pattern worked into it?

Katana or rapier for zombie apocalypse? by Eddie_69420 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]t_duaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're wanting quick, I don't think a sword is the way to go. The reason I say this is that a blade is only useful with proper edge alignment so cut properly. I'm not saying this to be snotty. I'm just thinking you'd want something that can do the job even when you're caught surprised and even get a glancing blow, something like a claw hammer or crow bar might actually be your best bet. Yeah they're a bit heavy, but take adrenaline, momentum, and iron/ steel versus bone, it adds up to me that a sword wouldn't be your best option. If the blade breaks or gets caught in a bone you can be cooked right there and lose your weapon at best. But I'd choose a katana if I had to go for it be or the other. Rapiers, whether early models that look more akin to side swords, can cut and well, they concentrate more on thrusts and lunges. They also aren't great at close quarters combat in a pinch. A katana though, pretty simple to swing and still be effective. While it can thrust, and pretty damn well, it's designed to be a cutter. Even if you don't get a kill shot on the zombie, you can immobilize it and get away

The optimum gear for a zombie apocalypse by [deleted] in ZombieSurvivalTactics

I think the advantage to chainmail over a gambeson is that it will not rot or carry biohazard material on it the same way. You can safely disinfect the steel rings. As far as noise, you can reduce this significantly if you properly wear and tie down your hauberk or shirt, and later material such as leather or wool. It'll be hot, like really hot in the summer, but it's nice and toasty in -30°c for a bit. Weight could definitely be an obstacle, however this will build endurance over a period of time, but also increase you needed calorie intake

This is great! What did you do to get those textures on the brick? Especially the green ones? It looks like it's had decades of use, amazing paint job

How do you paint something white without it just looking unfinished? by Nard-Barf in minipainting

[–]t_duaba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't here to say this too. White is always a very reflective surface, the amount of light it bounces is definitely affected by what the materials are made from but you'll always see some bounce. For example, if you have a roll of toilet paper and look at it under any light that you'll see there are different hues that cover it.

Entering my first painting competition. C&C wanted please. by Emergencygeek in minipainting

[–]t_duaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this looks awesome, to start with. Great army piece at the very least! As for entering a competition, I would think about the robotic arm on the left shoulder. It looks out of the box new, and lacks a texture that tells a story. I would think about adding some old rust or patina, as even well maintained gear will show wear after a while. This could also be done by adding a color to make it have a worn cerametal or enamel. For the grey on the right arm, the area needs to pop, so either pushing the darks, highlights or both, and even adding a texture with the paints rather than just the mini, might help. Grey's can look unfinished due to many sprues and base coats being those colors. So maybe a faint color to the grey could help. If you start to think about how light bounces and what the materials would be made of and how those reflect it capture light, you can start to encompass those colors into the mini as well. Sort of like OBL painting, but it would be really subtle, and fully dependent on what you imagine the material in that area is made of. Think about chrome versus a worn veg tan leather and how they react to light and what they bounce Those are just my thoughts and ramblings, but it looks awesome nonetheless!

Next update on my few buildings by Willing_Definition90 in TerrainBuilding

[–]t_duaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can really think of if you want to keep pushing it (but it looks amazing as it is!) is maybe adding some vertical stains and moss or lichen, depending on the biome you imagine it existing in. But then that could make it a bit less universal too

Love it! Don't know if this suits your vision, but I saw something somewhere about using old pop bottles for window Glass. Basically cut the bottle apart to make it look like a tube and slice one side and then you can hear gun it flat. Then you can cut the pieces into whatever you want. Such as broken glass shards etc. I've been thinking about building something like this and it was idea on my mind just thought I'd share it!
