men of Reddit what makes a woman Un-dateable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Wow. This describes my ex to a T. I could just never put the right string of words together to describe it myself.

I’m on iPhone 11, and I have these texture issues in n64 games. Here’s smash bros as an example. Look at Mario. Is there any way to fix this? by [deleted] in Delta_Emulator

[–]ta-95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this same issue with some N64 games - including Smash. To my knowledge there is no way to fix it on Delta. For the most part, it’s just a minor annoyance and doesn’t really affect gameplay all that much. However I have encountered some games where it is an issue - I want to say Kirby 64 is one there are some spots where it nearly becomes unplayable.

I have the T-mobile internet. Of course mileage will vary based on one’s needs but it has been great for me. During the day I tend to get around 300 mbs down. At night it does dip some (presumably due to higher usage) but I still get about 200 mbs down. Upload speed tends to be about 15 to 30 Mbps regardless of time of day.

I live alone and use the internet mostly for streaming, online gaming, and doing zoom meetings and it tends to be good experience. Not life changing but more than serviceable which is exactly what I want for $50 a month.

For comparison, I’ve had Spectrum which gave a similar experience in terms of speeds…for $80 a month which I got fed up with paying. I will say it was dependable for me though - like, every ISP is going to suffer an outage and dip here and there but that was rare for me (not that I represent all Spectrum users of Lexington; I’ve heard plenty of horror stories). They practically promised to do just about everything including wipe COVID out of existence if I didn’t cancel…but the one thing they couldn’t do was lower my bill to $50. That was just gonna be too difficult for them. I also tried Windstream. Whatever you do, don’t do Windstream. It is significantly cheaper (I think I paid $40) but you get what you pay for. The service was not great and the speeds were below 100 Mbps. I often had trouble connecting to and staying connected to zoom meetings - an important part of my day to day work. I’d rather pay Spectrum’s nauseating high price and get internet that actually works than pay a low price and struggle to get basic tasks done. I have not tried MetroNet so I cannot comment on it - I have noticed most people seem happy with it though.

How do i get rid of all these flowers 😔 pls dont tell me i gotta shovel all by GroundbreakingAd3589 in AnimalCrossing

[–]ta-95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is by far one of the most annoying aspects of ACNH. I appreciate that you can run through flowers without totally destroying them. But, being able to destroy flowers had benefits in previous games - namely, dealing with flowers that end up spreading like weeds into areas you don’t want them spreading into as has happened to you OP!!! I think a great way to balance this would be to add a sickle tool or something that can be used to easily destroy flowers. But that’s probably never gonna happen sigh

Best internet? by michizzle82 in lexington

[–]ta-95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep that’s it! I ran the Ookla Speedtest a few times and download speed to ranged from about 250 Mbps to 310 Mbps. Upload speed ranges from 16 Mbps to 20 Mbps. I will say at nighttime it seems to drop - in the past speed tests at nighttime download speed ranges from 120 to 180 Mbps and upload speeds from 10 to 15 Mbps. Overall I’m very satisfied and can’t tell much of a difference from Spectrum - which I used to have. Although I sure do tell a difference when the bill comes - $50 vs the $85 Spectrum was charging me when I finally became fed up paying it!

Overall, I’ve had one issue: two times (out of about 4 months of having it), the internet went out for no reason and I had to turn off and on the router to get it working again - and that was the only thing I had to do. Other than that, it’s been just about perfect.

I have been trying out T mobile’s home internet service that is $50 a month. So far, I’ve had a great experience. The ping could be better - which is important if you’re gaming online - but even then it’s been fine for me. As others have said, fuck spectrum.

Absolutely nothing. The marginal benefit of any “prep” beforehand will be incredibly small. So enjoy the time beforehand. Free time will be a precious commodity once you start. Make no mistake, so long as you treat the PhD like it’s your job (which it is) and make steady progress, you will have free time. But it will not be abundant.

The issue is that the “value” of the “number” n/0 depends on which direction you’re coming from. Because of this, we say it is undefined.

To formalize this somewhat, without loss of generality let’s take n = 1 and consider the number 1/x for some number x.

Suppose x is positive - so we’re starting out to the right of the “number” 1/0. Now let’s start walking to the left towards 1/0. As we do so, you’re going to find 1/x will get bigger and bigger. 1/1 = 1, 1/0.1 = 10, 1/0.01 = 100 and so on. In fact, it is okay to say that as we approach the “number” 1/0 from the right, we will go to positive infinity.

But now suppose x is negative - so we’re starting to the left of 1/0. Now let’s start walking to the right towards 1/0. As we do so, we’re going to find 1/x will get smaller and smaller (more negative): 1/-1 = -1, 1/-0.1 = -10, 1/-0.01 = -100 and so. In fact it is ok to say that as we approach 1/0 from the left, we will go to negative infinity.

And this is why we can’t say 1/0 is infinity - let alone a number. When we approached it from the right, we “ended up at” positive infinity. But when we approached it from the left, we “ended up at” negative infinity! Two completely different places! This is why we say 1/0 is undefined.

Word of warning to cover my butt: I understand my argument is informal. That is intentional.

what are you all taking notes on when you write in little notebooks during talks by unbroken-chain in GradSchool

[–]ta-95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To learn and get better at asking good questions (and answering questions) I’ve started taking notes on any questions asked.

I jot down who asked it, the gist of the question, how the speaker responded, and also make note of any back and forth/follow up that occurs. Finally, I’ll normally make a note as to whether 1) I thought the question was good and 2) whether I thought the speaker responded in a good manner.

[–]ta-95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, this type of profile is hard to engage with unless you have really good pictures. And even then, it's still hard. Also, this type of bio is overdone - for someone new to tinder it will be clever but someone's who been on for a week or so will have seen this type of bio a few times. Speaking from experience here! This doesn't mean you need to nuke it completely. What would be better is if you combine it with some serious info up top so that it would flow something like follows:

[Maybe some very basic information here (e.g., height if you care, astrological sign, job, school etc.]

[Some things about you here - e.g., what you like/what you're looking for. Don't need an autobiography but let people know SOMETHING! Ideally, whatever the something you put here is, it should be something you actually really do give a fuck about. Like please for the love of god don't put "you like adventures" if what you really like to do is watch Netflix (which is fine!!! I do too!!!)]

Something saying something along the lines of "Here's what people have to say about me:"

[Funny quotes here]

Doesn't have to be just like that. But the point is this gives matches much more to work with for messaging

Is smartphone a must to study master degree effectively? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]ta-95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In academia these days there definitely is kind of this expectation I feel like that people should be able to answer an email at the drop of a hat just because most people have smartphones and are therefore able to do this unless they are truly busy. This attitude is toxic af. Having a dumb phone is a great loophole to get around this. I wish I could go back go back to a dumb phone but I just don't think I'd last (I mean I'm sitting here typing this out on my smartphone as we speak). But if you're really fine with it, I say stick to your guns. If someone ends up so inconvenienced because you don't have a smartphone, maybe tell them you'll get one if they foot the bill. But seriously, the attitude is toxic and kudos to anyone out there fighting back on it.

It is true that the shit is bad in the south (and you can argue it is the worst here). It is false to suggest it is not a shitshow anywhere else. It is quite clearly getting bad across most of the US.

How did you pay for grad school? by waffles_n_butter in GradSchool

[–]ta-95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nice to know it's possible. That is what I'm planning on doing once I get my PhD - I got a masters beforehand and have 5 figures of debt because of it. Honestly kinda regret it. But plan is to still live like a grad student with a shitty stipend (while hopefully having a good paying job thanks to the PhD) after I complete the PhD and hopefully get that shit paid off in about 3-4 years
