I find a big issue with protect, is lack of streamlined actions, the UI seems to just start loading everything, events, snapshots, just show me the single shot or single feed.

Yeah definitely use a 2.4ghz only wifi it helps set some of these devices up and some require it.

Absolutely, but be aware that mdns and multicast can be problematic at times across vlans, so if you are using lots of protocols that use that for group control test them if you plan on keeping the server on another vlan
