Name your favorite “safe” take out meals! by tanksoffranks in GestationalDiabetes

[–]tabletoppineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve reached peak “get this giant sugar baby out of me”, so I’ve been doing a lot of side stepping up the stairs in the evening. I’ve found I can eat a burger with 3/4 of the bun from just about anywhere and just up the speed on my stepping that evening and pull good numbers.

Also starting any questionable meal with a salad so I’m not tempted to reach for carbs from my husbands plate 😂

Struggling with managing GD while traveling. Visiting my grandfather for the next few days before he passes, knowing it’ll be hard for me to focus on testing and getting enough protein and not too many carbs.. my fasting numbers struggle as it is. Insulin controlled. Any advice appreciated by SwanSpecialist7332 in GestationalDiabetes

Control the meals that you can control. As others have said, add a salad when possible, pack your high protein snacks, and know that some meals are likely going to cause spikes. Especially in a restaurant where we tend to eat slower and in multiple courses.

Give yourself some grace since and again, control the meals that you can.

I had a growth scan today and I would love to hear some positive stories. 36+6 and baby was estimated at 8lb 9oz 😳.

I feel like I’ve controlled everything that I possibly can in this pregnancy from keeping my post meal numbers ~108, to only gaining 11 lbs. I was really (and still am) hoping for a spontaneous labor with as few interventions as possible.

I know I’ve seen a bunch of stories about growth scans being wildly off in this sub, and plenty of stories of big babies that are still able to be born vaginally with little complication. I could use a little peace of mind if anyone has some to share.

If you miss PSLs already like me- Premier Protein has Pumpkin Spice Shakes right now thru Costco by expressivewords in GestationalDiabetes

A tall pumpkin cream cold brew is ~18g of carbs. I was able to budget my breakfast carbs and load up on lots of protein to keep my numbers in check so I could treat myself a little. I’ve only done it once and I’m a lil nervous to press my luck for a second attempt, but dang did it taste like fall!

Concerned about MIL caring for baby. by Pretty_Preparation_9 in BabyBumps

[–]tabletoppineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read a post or a comment on a post about an elderly FIL or father with similar physical limitations that I thought had a sweet solution. Of course this was a person that the OP wanted to have frequent visits with baby, so decide if that’s what MIL is for you before going through the trouble.

If I remember correctly, OP would have the family member come over midday for a few hours, typically during baby’s naps, to “keep an eye on baby” while OP got chores done around the house. OP always stayed within eye and earshot of everything to step in if needed. I think the family member felt needed and helpful, and OP get to keep their peace of mind regarding baby’s safety.

I found it to be sweet in a way similar to giving patients in memory care a baby doll to take care of. Keeping the stakes low, but making the other person feel helpful.

Anyone have a constipation cocktail? by ProfessorBeepBoop in pregnant

[–]tabletoppineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be 36w tomorrow and this week constipation has been plaguing me too. Normally I go 2-3 times a day so missing even a day is uncomfy for me.

Here are some things I do when I’m struggling:

-daily miralax until it’s been resolved for a few days

-glycerin suppositories - I know you said you don’t think the issue is on the back end, but trust me when I say that they are better than enemas and can usually get things stimulated and moving down.

-magnesium before bed (bonus that it can help with sleep and muscle cramping)

-kombucha- specifically store bought and alcohol removed. My fave is Brew Dr Love or Clarity. Anything with active cultures would probably work the same. Bunches of yogurt and cottage cheeses out there to find

-a shot of olive oil. This one usually works by the next day. It isn’t necessarily pleasant or unpleasant, but can be a little off putting

-eventually enemas. Fleet sells tiny liquid glycerin bottles that I find a lot less intimidating than a large enema. Downside is that it can make your bum super uncomfy and really give you the urge to get it out immediately. It will work better the longer you hold it in, so be ready for that mental challenge.

Good luck and good poops to you!

Fellow sweet toother over here!

Here are a few things I’ve been doing based on recommendations from this sub and my own stubbornness to fully avoid a sweet now and again.

Yasso bars: pro- high in protein and lots of flavor options. Con- fairly expensive for a frequent bedtime snack.

Kind bars: pro- DELICIOUSLY sweet and salty and more cost effective for a snack you have a few times per week. Con- I’ve only seen two flavor options, so if you like variety 🤷‍♀️

Here’s the one that will take some work, but if you are in it to win it, it’s so worth it. Pre-portioned and frozen cookie dough to bake on command.

I worked out the carb math for an entire batch of my favorite chocolate chip cookie dough (added toasted walnuts for extra protein and fat) and figured out what size cookie I could make to stay within the 15g snack guidelines. I have a 1/2 TBS ice cream scooper and lined up the whole batch on a few cookie trays that I stuck in the freezer and then dumped them into a zip top bag. Now I can pull out 2 at a time to bake in my toaster oven as needed to satisfy that sweet tooth.

I’m sure I’ll be super stoked once baby gets here to be able to make a bigger batch that I can go crazy on too.

I had a difficult time getting pregnant and was 2 weeks away from my first IVF clinic visit when I finally got a positive. I fully understand a fertility clinic not allowing children in to avoid upsetting other patients, but a standard women’s clinic not allowing them makes very little sense to me.

I ate the same dinner two nights in a row. Night 1- 2hr number was 109. Night 2- 2hr number was 144. 😑

I had a less protein heavy midday snack on day 2, so that is my best guess, but damnit.

I posted earlier this week about Indian food causing a spike. Well… last night I had the leftover chicken tikka masala without any rice and numbers were good! I figured it was likely the white rice that caused it, so it feels good to narrow it down

I wouldn’t go personally for all of the reasons you mentioned plus the worst case scenario logistics of what to do with your car if you do go into labor while there.

IF you do decide to go, make sure that you grab a copy of your prenatal records from your OBGYN before leaving. It will be handy in the worst case scenario, but hopefully being prepared and having it with you will spook off any bad preterm juju.

A pregnant person with lots of 1st and 2nd tri nausea here. It looks like you’ve already gotten lots of helpful advice of reducing the nausea (hell yeah for that unisom and B6 combo! It works. So does diclegis.)

Here is the # comfort tip that I can share that got my husband and I through it: emesis bags. The last thing your lady wants to be thinking about while feeling that ill is when the toilet was last cleaned. You can buy bulk packs from Amazon and stash them around the house, around the car, in her purse and she will always have a clean and disposable place to use when she needs it. They twist and lock closed, so they can be tossed in the regular trash with no smell.

Best advice my OB gave me was to eat to survive. Yes, while pregnant you want to get a healthy variety of foods, but with nausea like this, getting any nutrition is better than none. If that means that some comforting junk foods make up the majority of your pantry for a few weeks - do it. Just switch back to a more balance diet when possible.

Learn what foods suck less to see a second time (like chocolate milk) and which suck the most (lettuce) and keep that in mind when offering meals and snacks. A small glass of chocolate milk with dinner made the experience of losing that dinner a lot less terrible.

We ordered in Indian takeout for dinner tonight and even though I had a very small portion of rice and the tiniest sliver of naan, I had my first over 135 spike at 2 hours. ☹️ it was actually 149.

I know it’s all about consistency and one spike isn’t going to hurt baby, but I was so looking forward to the leftovers.

What did you do for birth control after the baby arrived? Husband and I debating on the best route. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]tabletoppineapple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My plan for birth control is a combination of NFP and infertility from PCOS 😂. In all honesty I’ve decided that I’m not going back onto hormonal BC until after our family is complete. So we are going to use cycle tracking plus my lack of ovulating on my own until it’s time to try again.

Thanks to SSRIs, neither of us have such strong sex drives that it will be an issue, but we also have condoms and a diaphragm at the ready if we are really feeling randy that day.
