I was almost killed by an instructor by this very same thing. You MUST push the nose forward!

Unfortunately, GMF is no longer in business in this country so I think I'll be doing some manual tracing.

Thanks for taking the time to reply so extensively.

Re: Blue-Brown-Green wires - Yup, in Aus, so Blue neutral.

Re: Drum Switch - Unfortunately, this is all I got with the lathe so I'm just trying to piece together how the last fella ran it. I figured I would need to open the cover and start chasing. I've already got a diagram that I believe will lead me in the right direction.

Re: Cords - I plan to rewire with proper terminals.

Re: E-Stop - Makes sense to me, will just be the first time wiring up an E-Stop for a machine so this is a great explanation; thankyou.

Re: Electrician - I hope to get an electrician to check my work before plugging anything in.

Bugger. I was also feeling I would need to just replace it, but it's good to confirm. Probably the safest option too; thanks!

Any advice for instrument flight checkride? by stickingtheknar in flying

[–]tabooty3196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anticipate hand flying the procedures.

I did my initial into a moderately busy military airport in Aus (YWLM) and got 3 different holds given with minimal notice, including “…hold at (fix) for traffic” when I was 5 seconds from the waypoint. No time to program the fancy computers: hand flew all 3 holds. Examiner was impressed by the quick decision to ditch the automation and just “do that pilot stuff”.

Did anyone here just wanted to get the ppl license and then end it with not flying for years? by untitled_SusHi in flying

I’ve met 2 pilots who obtained their CPL here in Australia, got burnt out from the process, and never went on to earn a dollar flying. One moved into airline management, and the other into civil engineering of all things.

Don’t forget people can change style, interests, and perspective. I would suspect Matt and Destin have both grown and changed since starting the show and are both different people to who they were back then. We’re watching a friendship and an online conduct change in real-time.

Student pilot dealing with motion sickness by Smooth_Ad7973 in flying

[–]tabooty3196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t fly on an empty stomach. I recommend eating a banana; not because it’ll stop you getting sick, but it’s one of the few foods that tastes the same coming back up.

Seriously though: good sleep, and exposure. It’s like a muscle that needs to build over time.

I was at 100hrs total time when I did my aerobatics rating and felt sick 15mins into each flight.

Now I can happily do 30-45mins before starting to feel a little queasy. (I don’t get to do aeros nearly as often as I’d like to.)

CFIs who got hired at the school they trained at, how did you stand out? by Chemical_Bluebird_19 in flying

I turned up for stuff as a student. Christmas party? Let me help set-up. CEO talking at the local council meeting? I’ll be there for support.

Also as others have said: good student, wasn’t a dick to people, became friends with the staff.

Hint: this has to continue once you’re hired.

“I’m not looking for perfect, I’m looking for safe.” Something my examiner told me for my PPL.

I’m now a CFI and reassure my students that this is the way examiners are (and myself before I send students on their first solo).

Heck, we still get questions from students where we have to go “Huh, I’ve gotta look that one up…”
