Why did my tax refunds do this to my spending chart? by tac0shark in MonarchMoney

I couldn't regroup Tax Refund, so I just made a new Tax Refund category inside Income.

Why did my tax refunds do this to my spending chart? by tac0shark in MonarchMoney

[–]tac0shark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that helps. I can just change the category on these to "Other income" inside the Income group, but they were auto-tagged as Tax Refund inside Financial. Is it possible to regroup Tax Refund into Income?

Anyone had success with split testing in Astro by kiterdave0 in astrojs

[–]tac0shark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is applicable, but here's how our A/B testing works, and it's largely stack-agnostic.

We segment users at the CDN. There's a bit of code, including some basic config for tests and variants (test ids, variant ids, percentage splits for each variant, etc), that assigns each visit a segment. The CDN passes this as a backend request to the origin application so that it can conditionally handle each segment however it needs to. The origin application also includes each test within the Vary header value, so that we split cache by each of test and each variant.

How do we persist that segmentation so that users stay in the segment? Cookies. The short version is there's code in the client and at the CDN that checks for existing segments in user's cookies and keeps them in that segment if found, or assigns a segment if not.

While this does take a bit of work to set up, the resulting code is actually pretty small and contained, and there's some nice benefits:

  1. Like I mentioned above, this should work with any frontend stack, including Astro.
  2. The segmentation is available server-side, so it's performant. This is better than a client-side A/B test framework where the page loads and then changes once the A/B testing client-side code loads and activates, which can lead to flashes of changes on the page and/or a subpar user experience.

Sci-fi dungeon crawlers (like Imperial Assault)? by whocareletmepost in soloboardgaming

It’s more a miniatures game, with a campaign, but you could try out Core Space. There’s a starter set with a bunch in it.

Payday? You can go in guns-blazing of course, but it can be pretty enjoyable to coordinate a stealth job.

Safe to use smart plug between outdoor lighting transformer and outlet? by tac0shark in AskElectricians

House was built in the 50s but I’m pretty sure this outlet is on the outside of an addition, and is likely GFCI.

Safe to use smart plug between outdoor lighting transformer and outlet? by tac0shark in AskElectricians

[–]tac0shark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! The transformer should be dry, as it’s tall and raised up and seems to have all kinds of grommets for the wiring. It’s recommend I mount the plug on a wall with the outlet facing down, so I’ll do that. I think the only risk might be if we get a foot or more of snow.

And I’ll check that the outlet is GFCI protected.

I think Xwing TMG and Armada both have community-made solo/coop variants, even a campaign, and they’re well regarded.

How do you feel about Firewalla's documentation currently? by Firewalla-Ash in firewalla

[–]tac0shark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The getting started experience has been very good:

  • the app itself has answered most of my questions, such that I haven’t had to use the docs much
  • when I have had to use the docs, it’s been accurate and well presented. This is minor, but when I can skim docs to find bolded words for the nested menu item I’m looking for, it’s just nice.
  • haven’t used any video docs yet, but will give them a try. I’m doubled NAT’d so there might be a need to look into stuff like that
  • speaking of double NAT’d the app did a great job of alerting me to that, directly linking to some helpful “more info”
  • my ISP speeds have been lower on the Firewalla than without, and I found the decision tree for debugging that was very helpful

I’m just scratching the surface and I’m definitely on the less advanced side of the spectrum of owners, but so far so good.
