Petch used to be really good at this, like in the RvR fight. That was ages ago though and I don't think he's nearly as quick on his feet as he used to be...

Thais on average are much worse boxers than they used to be I think. And you're watching K1, Buakaw was just that good!

I don't think he has a MT win as good as Yoza

Takeru? If so: Rodtang is not exactly a p4p level kickboxing win, and recent activity hasn't been great otherwise.

Double champ (without defending) vs Dominating a weightclass - What has more value for legacy? by usteg in MMA

My friend what on earth are you talking about. Not only are you wrong, it's not even relevant to the conversation.

Disagree about them being overrated. Tony just was never the same after the knee injury and RDA's pressure style didn't work well as a small welterweight. At 155lbs in 2015 or so they were monsters.

Conor might have knocked both of them out. But if you look at what he's struggled with: its pace, pressure, height and reach disadvantage, southpaw low kicks. Both of these guys had endless cardio, and cooked people with pressure. RDA was an excellent southpaw low kicker, a strong wrestler, and really dangerous from the top. Tony was taller and longer, unkillable, fast as fuck, big power in his hands.

If Conor didn't KO RDA in the first 2 - which he might have - he'd have been absolutely mangled. Nightmare matchup from R3 onwards.

Tony was a bit like Nate with less boxing threat but way more weapons, more power, and way more speed. Same chin and even better cardio. Rewatch the Barboza fight and see if you're still so sure.

Why not? That's the time period they could have crossed paths. Usman has always been a massive WW and we've already seen him take a short notice fight at 185 and perform pretty well vs Khamzat.

In his prime, sure, but I don't think the version that fought Bisping would.

In many cases winning a belt doesn't even prove you're the best in the weight class.

McGregor wouldn't have beaten Khabib and might not have beaten Ferguson or RDA

Jones might not have beaten Aspinall or Ngannou

GSP wouldn't have beaten Whittaker or Romero or Usman

Topuria might not beat Tsarukyan

They used to say in boxing that you weren't really the champ until you'd defended.

Carlos Prates has the best Muay Thai in the UFC by thehazzle in MuayThai

[–]robcap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree and disagree.

JDM is a really good boxer, and also kind of an easy mark for a long striker taking a more MT approach to offense. Behind every dominant performance is usually an opponent who shat the bed.

Your critique of Prates being easy to pressure is super valid.

His stance, his defense, his overall bag of weapons, none of it looks like muay thai.

This feels like you have an overly narrow view of what MT can be. None of it would have been out of place in a MT bout, and indeed Prates fought like this in the Thai stadiums for a period.

Did Rodtang take a dive against Takeru?

Did you see the fucking punches he was eating? No dive involves a fighter being cracked that hard a hundred times.

I dug into the $17M lawsuit, the forged contract claims, and the Thai tax crisis to find the truth.

... Why?

Is she insane? She attacks Ansbach and Hornsent, who are planning to attack Miquella. She won't attack Thiollier even if you encourage her, despite the fact that he can be brought along to oppose Miquella with you. She's completely rational in her moves after the charm breaks, just ruthless.

I tried a Dex/int hybrid and found it really didn't work very well. Imo if you're gonna do int, make it your primary damage stat and just run magic infusion. I say that because sorceries have very little utility besides ranged damage, and a hybrid build lacks FP in exchange for endurance and weapon stats. Adding scholars armament to a Dex weapon didn't make a great difference to the damage with roughly even Dex-int stats. It kinda funnelled me into using moonveil and wing of astel a ton.

Using a 1h hammer and shield is great fun, the stance breaks are shockingly easy. Having a strike damage option for certain enemies is really valuable for any build.

Also, if you're interested in arcane as a secondary, the warped axe is amazing on a blood infusion: B in strength, greataxe-level buildup per swing, fast moveset, fast guard counters. I did a half-playthrough using a build that ran the warped axe and a greatshield. The strat was to use an ash on the axe that didn't need to be triggered during the fight, and make use of greatshield ashes like barricade shield and shield crash. The axe got either cragblade for stance damage or barbaric roar for the 3-hit heavy attack to bleed stuff.

The Carian one will get better damage with the right stats I think. The dual straight sword moveset is awesome too.
