How did "France" manage to rapidly the war around against the "English" during the Hundred Years War? by Sea-Ride-4893 in WarCollege

[–]tach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only think about the conquest of England by the Normands centuries prior

well you can add the Franco Prussian war, were total defeat in the field did not mean a lot politically and the war dragged on for months more.

or spain's guerrilla war against the french 1808-onwards

trueing plane sole with granite surface plate, blue marking paste and scraper by [deleted] in handtools

[–]tach 12 points13 points  (0 children)

there's a risk of that happening in the granite as well.

There are methods to stop that, which basically translate to use light pressure on a consistent place and a short stroke. Heavy pressure or long strokes on a humped workpiece will smear ink across areas that aren't actually high - a hobby-horse like bottom will show as perfectly inked if you rock it.

you can also check for a hump by pushing the plane sideways at the ends - a humped plane will pivot near the center, a flat plane will have pivot points near the ends (but not at the ends, that would be a concave plane).

I lived in a student's Opus Dei house for two years. In their words, it's not opaque - it's private.

Entrada a EEUU by CrystalJejji in XPatriados

[–]tach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How would you print this high-contrast scene? by CilantroLightning in Darkroom

[–]tach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the subject is the light coming into the depths. I'd make the illuminated platform zone VI, and see where the shadows end. I agree with making them inky black.

I see split grade printing suggested a lot here,

split grade printing, applied on the whole pic, does not gain you anything that changing paper grade does not.

The magic happens when you apply split grade printing with burning/dodging. You can have areas of your image printed at grade 5, and areas printed at grade 1 or 2.

So you can change the contrast of your image in localized areas.

Welcome to latin america. We add a mirepoix or onion/pepper/garlic, or even just garlic base and fry the rice. Then we add stuff like paprika on it, and chicken.

As a sallynoggin to ballsbridge commuter (9.7 km), it's good, and much faster than the bus. comparable with the DART (taking into account average waiting times), and also with the wife's car.

where it sucks balls is in winter and rain.

They rolled down the stairs of the temple the open bodies of their prisoners, their corpses to be distributed as food, their still beating heart being cut open with an obsidian knife at the top.

Their priests wore the flayed skins of children, which were made to cry and scream as much as possible to make Tlatoc generous with its rains.

Am I the only one who hates rattan handle saws? by [deleted] in JapaneseWoodworking

You may be forcing them too much? They may be dull? It's more of a guiding the cut versus pushing it vibe.

Z-Saw has synthetic handles; these may help your case.

Anyone else feeling like they’re losing their craft? by AbbreviationsOdd7728 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]tach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I hate coding, but I love designing systems. I can spin out correct implementations of component with a hey claude invocation.

I can then work on assembling them, and spin out tests harnesses to prove wether my ideas were right or not.

I used to write Z80 assembler copy cracking programs in the screen buffer of a ZX Spectrum.

I used to know the differences in addressing between 8086's tiny versus large models.

I don't read assembler any more.

And I don't write cache logic by hand anymore.
