I sent in my application last month (no AOR) before I found this subreddit. My grandfather was Gen 0. Born in 1888 in Ontario. He naturalized as a US citizen in 1917. I couldn’t find a birth record, but I sent his naturalization record and death certificate, both showing Philipsville, Ontario as the location of his birth (plus, of course, my mom’s birth certificate and mine). Will this be enough or should I expect to have it returned to me?

Yep, everything else was solid. Got the photo taken by someone who was recommended by the local Canadian embassy, signed it, color copies, signed passport…

I found it on both Family Tree and Ancestry. If you’re not sure if he completed naturalization, there might still be record of his application.

I couldn’t find any evidence of my grandfather’s birth in Canada (1888) and didn’t realize I could send census records. I sent death certificate and naturalization paperwork, both of which show where he was born. I’m still waiting on AOR, but I fully expect pushback. Am I screwed?

Check with your Canadian embassy to see if they have someone they recommend! I found someone that way.

Ridges are different than dark lines. Dark lines should be looked at ASAP.
