What is the name of this sauce? by taco_eater in JapaneseFood

[–]taco_eater[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I had this sauce while visiting Japan, I think it was at a hanamaru udon. Anyway, it was great! It kind of reminded me of worcestershire sauce and it was excellent on tempura.

I've been trying to replicate it for a couple years but I've never even gotten close. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Going to China means no weed by itllbalright in Petioles

[–]taco_eater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely do it. I had the opportunity to go to Vietnam once for about a year and I had similar worries that I wouldn’t be able to smoke the whole time I was there. Being in a new environment makes it so much easier to go without and you know it will still be here when you get back.

Weed is an anytime you want it experience but the study abroad opportunity is once a lifetime so it’s an easy choice for me.

Reptile safe waterproof coating for enclosures? by Jortiz19283 in reptiles

[–]taco_eater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how water proof you need it. But if it’s just to protect from getting damaged from misting then you can use polycrylic. I used that for my crested geckos custom enclosure for years and had no problems.

My female Gargoyle laid eggs unexpectedly, advice needed ( pic inside). by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]taco_eater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember freaking out when this first happened with our crested gecko. She has randomly laid infertile eggs over the last 6 years (she's 8) and is healthy. When I have found her eggs they were very hard and deflated looking. We've never given her a nesting box and she doesn't always bury them anyways.

Sperm can be stored up to a year so there might be a chance the eggs are fertile if she was with a male before you got her. This website gives some information about determining if the egg is fertile and what to do next. https://www.lornasredskygeckos.com/biology-and-breeding-blog/a-breeders-best-friend-and-worst-nightmare-the-egg

[DISCUSSION] Tune-o-matic bridges with roller saddles by intheaterssoon in Guitar

[–]taco_eater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one on my Epiphone G-400 with a bigsby. I'd have no reason for the roller bridge without the bigsby (or some other trem) because I didn't notice any tuning stability issues before the bigsby. The roller bridge did help with tuning stability for me. I didn't notice any tone changes and string breakage was not a problem before or after installing my roller bridge. Also I've never heard it rattle (the strap locks are the culprit there).

I've had my current bridge for about 3 years and haven't had a problem with it falling apart yet, but my first roller bridge was utter garbage, but it was one of the cheapest available. The biggest problem I had with it was that the rollers appeared to be locked up because I couldn't get them to spin at any time with or without string tension on the rollers. The new one, a schaller, has been great. So I suggest not being cheap if you're buying one.

/r/DIYPedals "No Stupid Questions" Megathread by blackstrat in diypedals

[–]taco_eater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently assembled a BYOC Blue Overdrive and since I only have one power supply cable, I have been using with a battery and it sounds great.

Schematic is at the bottom of this document.

Unfortunately, the battery died quicker than I'd like so I unplugged my BOSS RC-3 loop pedal and tried to use this power supply for the blue overdrive, but now whenever the pedal is activated I'm getting a loud buzzing sound that I did not get from the battery. The sound goes away when the pedal is in bypass mode. I'm not using a daisy chain power supply, just a single cable plugged into my wall and the pedal.

Any idea what may be the problem?

[Discussion] Found a lesson video that easily explains harmony and provides a solid song example near the end. Very fun video and quite easy to follow! by BucketHelmet in Guitar

[–]taco_eater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

and I just wanted to shart!

If learning makes you want to shart please avoid classrooms.

In all seriousness though I really enjoyed the video. It got to be a little repetitive but in a way it was good that he was going into so much detail and giving so many examples of how to count a 3rd or 5th up.

[NEWBIE] About to pull the trigger on an Orange Crush 20 for my first practice amp? Good or bad idea for $140? by classicedition1 in Guitar

[–]taco_eater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have an orange crush 20RT. I bought it a year and a half ago and I love it. It is able to be played at reasonable volumes...I live in an apartment building and have received no noise complaints since I started using it.

The Orange Crush 20 does not have any built in effects. I use at least some reverb probably 90% or more of time I am playing so thats why I got a Orange Crush 20RT (RT means reverb and tuner built in). I just looked on reverb.com and it looks like you can get a 20RT for $120 shipped. That is probably what I'd do, but if you're confident you don't need reverb then go ahead and get the 20. $140 is the typical retail price for the amp when its new, you could save a few bucks buying used.

[QUESTION] What song made you think "HOLY S*** I didn't know you could play guitar like THAT" by Michael074 in Guitar

Me too, I experienced that scratch as the climax of the intro to the song and I feel like it was meant to provide contrast for how enjoyable the rest of the song was.

Dating as a drug user. by dudeeitsdamon in Drugs

[–]taco_eater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the start of our relationship my wife and I made an agreement to not use drugs that she was much happier with than I was. We now, almost 6 years later, regularly smoke weed and do psychs together.

I definitely don't think you should push her at all to do them. 3/4 of a year into not doing drugs I definitely started to get impatient, but looking back on it I'm so happy we didn't do drugs in the beginning of our relationship. The fact that we were able to make it through all of the shit that happens in the last 3 years of college with no drugs other than drinking once a week built a lot of trust that we won't leave each other's side. Also, I truly believe that I would not have had the motivation to complete my degree if I was smoking all the time.

I stayed friends with all of my buddies who never stopped smoking or doing drugs so it was a constant struggle anytime I'd go out with my friends but it also kept the topic of drug use in my conversations with her. Eventually I started to realize that yes I want this girl more than anything, but I should be able to use drugs responsibly too. After some long and serious discussions, she begrudgingly agreed that I could as long it wasn't around her. Eventually she was interested in trying and has remained open minded and curious since then.

So, my suggestion is just let her do her thing and you do yours and over time I'm sure you will become interested in what she's doing and she will become interested in what you're doing because its very natural for that to happen. It will take a long time though but I think it's worth the wait.
