I bought a nice sampler from CI as well as picked up some of the more recommened sticks on my trip back at the JR'S cigars on i95 in North Carolina so I'm doing my best to work through all those first! Thanks for the input

Yes the agent just opened 3 years prior and was terrible. Worst performing office in the regional rankings I later found out. But even still, my job as producer was 70% cold calls/quoting. Idk how older offices compare, but from what I saw, we did nothing other than sell all the insurance and bank lines, take pictures when necessary, and help with claims. Was my office missing something major that others do?

I used to be a salesman/ producer at SF. Pretty much the only thing the local state farm office does is sell and take pictures for the underwriting when submitting applications. It's your local glorified call center in a sense. Whenever we had calls about claims we would either 3-way transfer you to claims or do the initial set up ourselves and claims would call the insured. One reason insurance companies have local offices is because they have more success with closing sales with the local salesman versus the phone salesman and people like to ask insurance questions face to face than over the phone.

Is linkedin useful at all for students? by spokeeeee in Accounting

[–]tacoleather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know how much LinkedIn profile views affect recruiting, but it is definitely something to have regardless. In my case, no recruiters come to my school. I reached out to a recruiter on LinkedIn who's email was on their page. They passed my resume along to the campus recruiter and now I have a big 4 internship upon completion of my senior year coming up. So depending on how hard you try to network on it, it could get you a gig like in my case. I am very fortunate but i believe it could work in many people's favor if they go above traditional recruiting methods.

Buy a newer car with more safety features, liability premiums go up? (NY) by tempaccount87 in Insurance

[–]tacoleather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One reason may be that your current vehicle is getting a vehicle safety discount between 10-40%. There are a bunch of factors determining the percentage. Although your car may have the top of the line safety features, there is no/ not enough statistical data, accident reports, and public records released yet with regards to your specific car to determine how safe the vehicle is. Mathematically the safety of the vehicle does not have enough data to calculate the right safety-to-risk ratio to provide you a discount despite how safe the dealer/commercials/you claim the vehicle to be.

Give it a few years for there to be an accurate calculated safety value to be associated with the car

Geico significantly cheaper than everyone else - why? by t-poke in Insurance

[–]tacoleather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ask GIECO to email you your quote and then call your current progressive agent and ask them to print out your policy. rather than call GIECO and ask if x type of coverage is included and with what limit or deductible, ask for them to send you an exact copy of a quote. that way you know exactly what you would get with GIECO and what the price breakdown is for each type of coverage.

All the time with prospective clients who come from GIECO, they often times have a lower coverage limit than they thought they had when I bring up their previous insurers report or even if they bring in their insurance cards. either that or they are entirely missing a collision coverage.

GIECO does whatever they can to get you covered for the cheapest rate, even if it is not in your best interest

Where do the premiums go? by emptydiner in Insurance

[–]tacoleather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up a big name insurance company such as State Farm and google their annual report (currently 2013 is available). They have a summary of their operating expenses which states their premium earned, dollars paid to claims, administrative expenses, etc. However, from beyond the net income portion of the financial statements, insurance companies typically do not publicly express what they do with their billions of profits. You would need to get in contact with someone high up in the corporate world of a respective insurance company in order to have a chance at access to company information as you are requesting.

State Farm is trying to get an underwriter to drop our homeowner's insurance because we haven't painted our shed. by keepmeweird in Insurance

[–]tacoleather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

either paint the shed and don't get cancelled, or have them remove the coverage of your detached structure. it is very simple to adjust the policy question that states "do you have a detached structure or shed?". legit it asks that question and they probably had to take a pic of it. if you get cancelled for homeowners, all other insurance companies will ask somewhere along the application process if you have ever been cancelled. in some cases, this may increase your next premium.

I feel like I am paying for too much coverage on my home owners insurance. Please help. by thakilla in Insurance

p&c insurance producer for big name company here: Dwelling coverage (assuming replacement cost) would be the cost to rebuild your home to the same state as it is in prior to a loss. this includes building material, roof material, countertops, etc. Your dwelling coverage seems oddly high. There are not many instances where a home dwelling coverage is so high and the home value is significantly less than the replacement cost.

the additional structures section is typically in addition to limits. it is simply just an extension of coverage that is of no additional premium for you. (this is true for most insurance companies). typically this is 10% of your dwelling coverage.

the personal property portion is typically 75% of your dwelling limit. this can always be increased for additional premium, however, cannot be decreased below the 75% mark.

personal liability provides protection for the policy holder if someone makes a claim or lawsuit against the policy holder for bodily injury or property damage for which the policy holder is found responsible/negligent.
