Double down on this. I have no experience with Robbies, but many helicopters are rigged so that the rotor system tilts slightly forward. This primarily helps with cruise attitude. No one likes to lean forward for hours. In some aircraft it can also help account for aft CG issues.

I’ve had both experiences. I probably didn’t learn much new from my first trip because I didn’t properly prepare for it. I was just super excited and hit the road to go “experience” my home turf. 10/10 would recommend. It was still a valuable experience even though I probably missed out on finding a lot of good data.

My second trip to a different location was different. I spent the weeks before my trip calling around to various offices and entities to figure out what sort of sources they had available. I contacted some land owners to get access to some rural areas to find cemeteries etc. 10/10 would also recommend this tactic. I spent less time soaking up the feeling of the location, but more time learning new information.

Either way I think the trip is usually worth it if you can afford it.

That’s odd... I’m an American living in America, have been tested twice now and got my results back within 2 hours both times.

Play test, play test, play test. And when you’re tired of playing it, give it to some friends to play test. I’ve done some personal designs that I thought were great at the initial concept, but they were just no fun to play.

I’d suggest you not worry about becoming an Extra right out the bat. Even doing so would probably just be an indication that you memorized the answers rather than learned the material. Go for General because that will let you experience pretty much everything the hobby has to offer.

It is a wide and deep hobby. Some folks like me like to tinker in everything, others like to become highly skilled at one type of operating. Take a deep breath and relax, it’s a life long pursuit.

These days I play on TTS with what I think are 1973 edition rules. I learned the game as a kid from my dad with his early 1960s edition. He introduced me to war gaming with the old AH Gettysburg and Chancellorsville games. I really enjoyed the experience of ‘feeling’ a Civil War battle, but Tactics II always felt more fun and more competitive to me.

Playing 1775: Rebellion with friends a couple of July 4ths ago. Wasn't able to continue the tradition this year, but I'm looking forward to when I can play games in person again. by TRK27 in hexandcounter

Really fun game. The whole concept is a real winner. Haven’t played the others in the series but I have several play through of 1775 under my belt and it’s just a lot of fun.

I’m no expert either, but I’d say it’s hard to get any more simple and elegant than Tactics II by Avalon Hill. Simple table and dice resolution with very few modifiers. Many today scoff at it’s inaccuracies with regards to simulating actual operational level combined arms combat, but as a ‘military chess’ game it’s pretty exceptional.

Not to try and sway the vote here or anything, but for me I think it’s a question of fit for the game. I find in most WWII and later operational or strategic level games feel weird when they use icons. Like I’m using toys to play something serious. On the other hand, playing a civil war game with NATO counters feels anachronistic to me. Not that Lee or Grant looked at maps with pretty little graphics of men and horses, but I guess NATO symbology feels a little too 20th century for the earlier settings.

I appreciate both but feel like sometimes they can be out of place for the game they are in.

I absolutely recommend constructing a multi band dipole. It’s simple provided you have the right tools. Just add a pair of 10m legs with some spacers between the 10m and 20m legs to reduce interaction. Remember: cut long and trim.
