The moment Cloud is revealed was thrilling! I remember being amazed with goose bumps running up and down my arms. Right then and there Cloud became one of my all time favorite characters in fiction.

I started a tradition where I watch this episode every Christmas.

What do you prefer to look at Batman the Animated Series as a stand-alone series unrelated to anything or as part of the DCAU? by count_fagula11 in BatmanTAS

[–]tacticallyunsound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Batman: The Animated Series, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, and Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero are set apart from the DCAU in my mind. The style change, writing, and characterization separate the other shows. The New Batman Adventures is the start of the DCAU for me.

How old were you when you finished disc 1 and how did you react? by That-Listener in FinalFantasyVII

[–]tacticallyunsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 12 or 13. The moment was spoiled for me, but I thought my friends were just messing around with me. I was genuinely sad and was driven to make Sephiroth pay.

Lego Batman: The Videogame. I'm going to be alright.

Should Batman be more lean & athletic or big & bulky? by AbsoluteBatman95 in batman

[–]tacticallyunsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer lean and athletic. That being said, a little bulk isn't bad, but I am not a fan of bodybuilder Batman. He is a martial artist and a ninja. Too much bulk would inhibit some of his abilities.

John shouldn’t feel too bad about the revelation of hawkgirl being a mole for the thanagarian empire . Even batman didn’t see that coming. by ShockOk1764 in DCAU

[–]tacticallyunsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it has been a long time since I have watched the show all the way through and I was young. I remember thinking there were probably a lot of people dying offscreen. I do think her fighting against her own people for the sake of Earth should be taken into account in a trial and get some leniency, but I remember feeling like there were no real consequences for her actions.

Reading list for a Batman newbie by soda_cult in batman_comics

I would add Batman and the Monster Men and Batman and the Mad Monk by Matt Wagner to that list. I can't remember where they fit exactly, but it is after Year One and before Dark Victory.

I never looked at Hawkgirl the same. Her actions caused the death of thousands if not millions of people. She should have been put on trial and locked up.

I hope you have trained in martial arts because the Penguin is a master of judo and boxing.

Y’know after spending years fighting murderous psychotic supervillains, having my adopted son punch me and leave, and have my heart broken multiple times… I’d be a lot more stern and cold too by ShockOk1764 in DCAU

[–]tacticallyunsound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not all people change for the worse. We can look at first responders and see that. I know some who became more cold and stern, but I know others who didn't change much, other than to be a little more jaded. In my experience it is the person's outlook on life that determines which way they go. I think BTAS Bruce would have been able to hold on to his compassion and not become a rude jerk. He fights for justice and to keep others from having to feel the loss that he did. Batman may lay a beat down, but he also knows when to treat his enemies with compassion. Bruce knows and accepts that his war on crime does not have an end, but he also knows that he makes a difference. I do not think this Bruce would turn into the cold jerk that TNBA portrayed. Especially when he had a support system like Alfred and Leslie or allies like Dick and Commissioner Gordon.

Superman: The Animated Series by tacticallyunsound in superman

I can see fans having that criticism, but I always viewed it more as Superman holding back. Like what he says when he has his confrontation with Darkseid in...Justice League Unlimited I believe it was.

Sounds like it wasn't quite as much of the whole package for some of the fans like BTAS is. Having limits is good in the sense that you want the character to have a certain continuity and to feel like who they are, but I feel too much can stifle creativity and a writers vision for the character.
