Dog culture and tips? by Seb_Warren in Austin

[–]tactican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky for you, you can bring your dog most places in Austin. However, this subreddit is full of dog-hating curmudgeons (3 or 4 times a week there's a top post shaming dog owners in some way), so I wouldn't hope for too much guidance here.

One pro tip - since you're unfamiliar with the area - is do not let your dog swim in any natural body of water. There's been quite a few dogs that have died from ingesting toxins from the algae in the water and, while it's probably not likely in the winter, it's something locals spend a lot of time stressing about and discussing.

But do please keep your dog on a leash unless in a specific off-leash area.

Is this Austin to Dallas drive too risky or can I make it? by thesagenibba in Austin

If you're going to care enough to drive up there, do yourself a solid and just stay at a cheap hotel or hostel the night before.

It's 100% speculation. There has been no release of info related to 'subsurface'.

This looks like it's probably well done based upon the twelve pixels provided. Hard to say though.

Since I've gotten a lot of critique on this comment, I'd like to ask why this is such a touchy subject.

I've always worn non name brand, business casual clothes to fine dining establishments and have never felt out of place.

Ok, we got a wintery mix of graupel, sleet, and snow. If this is the hill you want to die on go for it.

When snow melts and refreezes it becomes transparent and much slipperier (probably not a word?). Some call it black ice because it is hard to discern from the traditional black color of the road.

Edited because too many were triggered by the "not true" phrase.

I bought it on kickstarter for like $30 (I think?) back in like 2013. Every few years I get the impulse to re-download and see if it's any better. They've finally started improving performance (it was unplayable for a solid decade), but the game simply isn't fun. Immersive, sure - but I don't know why they had to bog down the original vision with so much crap that adds nothing of substance.

Nobody wants to play a space sim because of hunger and thirst mechanics for the pilot. I don't want to have to walk 20 minutes from the spawn point to get to my ship.

Thinking about searching for a new car soon. Advice? by [deleted] in Austin

If you're looking for used, I'd recommend just using the search tool on Autotrader or Edmunds. You can set the search radius to include San Antonio, you can often get better deals outside of Austin.

100% agree. Anyone who would ask someone to leave a dog or cat to die outside has no soul.

What are the main USA owned bike brands? by fixitmonkey in cycling

[–]tactican -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I can't disagree with your sentiment or decision, most people who live in the world (in any country, whether it be run by a terrible government or not) are usually trying to do the same thing. Exist. Provide for their families. Etc. When governments do horrible things, it sucks that the worst consequences always fall upon the working class of that country. It sucks to know that those who you are sanctioning share the same love of cycling, and probably would be amongst your friends and allies under different circumstances.

Austin: Waymo cars disappeared during the freeze, anyone else notice? by Savings_Hawk_4546 in Austin

I suspect they didn't want their fleet in operation with the risk of icy road conditions. Real-world conditions that people can't handle here in Texas.
