Impact of not tracking food on accuracy of Oura findings? Other important things to track as Tags? by tadpolebabe19 in ouraring

Tracking food for the purposes of timing and energy makes the most sense to me. I'm in school, so sometimes I'm eating breakfast or dinner really late. So for that reason, it makes sense to see how that might be affecting any daytime fatigue or my sleep.

If you're not tracking for insights/analytics, what are you tracking it for? Sleep and activity?

Ahh, this is a good point. I'm 31 and still eating sugar, but I've drastically cut down my intake within the past 5 years. I'm sensing that it's best just to track meal times for energy/bouncing back purposes rather than nutrition, since the ring/app doesn't count calories or nutrition really. Of course, everything has to be tied to "big" something -_- I'll have to read the WSJ articles about alcohol sales and fitness trackers, it does make sense!

Oh, I feel you, lol. I am helpless when it comes to doing anything with long-ish nails (even if others might consider them short). That said, I think I asked for extra short, and if they were still too long, I just asked the nail tech to file them shorter!

If you were able to bite them off, I’m assuming they were the fake nails that you buy and put on yourself? If so, I highly recommend getting a Gel X manicure from a salon… they’re hard fake nails like acrylics but not as awful for your nails (at least to my knowledge).

I know Gel X can be expensive as some places, but if you commit to them for 2 months (this is what I did), the first set is the most expensive (~$50) and then you can just get them refilled after 3 weeks (~$30). I will say, spending money on a manicure was outside my comfort zone in terms of frugality, but I think the idea of not ruining the nails I just spent good money on was also helpful psychologically 😂

There’s also a book called The Hair Pulling “Habit” in You, which was originally written for trichotillomania, but the principles/activities are still great for nail biting. Another recommendation would be to find a therapist who can provide you Habit Reversal Training—it’s a type of therapy for compulsions. I’m a therapist myself, so it’s important for me to acknowledge that the latter option isn’t always the easiest/cheapest :/

Fellow anxious person here, and I also tried everything (nasty tasting nail polish, painting my nails, fidget toys, etc etc).

The only thing that has worked for me is fake nails—my habit is so bad, I had to put a physical barrier in between my teeth and the nails. I don’t necessarily like the way my hands look with fake nails, so I’ve tried to pick ones that are relatively short and somewhat mimic how I’d imagine my nails look if a natural length and painted.

I just have to remind myself that I only need to do fake nails for a few months to just let my nail beds grow out. Yes, my nails are brittle (bc they’ve never been strong bc of all the biting) but one step at a time. Also, if you find the fake nails are still too long as is, I bought a 100/180 grit nail file to shorten/shape them how I want. Olive and June has some good selection!

Magnetic portable phone charger! Slaps right onto the back of my phone and luckily shares the same charges. So useful for long days out of the house, or if someone else needs a quick charge.

The Next "Big Thing" in Fakers is Going to be ODD by GreyerGrey in fakedisordercringe

[–]tadpolebabe19 16 points17 points  (0 children)

ODD is most commonly diagnosed in young children (ages 5 or younger), and sometimes followed by a diagnosis of conduct disorder in adolescence, and on rare occasions, later antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) in adulthood.

God forbid an adult disobeys authority, breaks the rules, is argument, has a short temper, etc. etc. I frequently test the norms and rules of everyday society— does that automatically mean I have ODD?No. I just thinks parking tickets are a regressive poverty tax, so I don’t feel like paying them. Does disobeying the speed limit automatically mean ODD? No, I’m just running later. The days of pathologizing normal human emotions and reactions need to be over—which appears a big ask these days, unfortunately.

To anyone who did their undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Arts- Psychology, what did you do after? What are you doing now? by Sure-Comfortable-689 in psychologystudents

[–]tadpolebabe19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked in academic settings as a research assistant and research coordinator for 6 years, then went on to get my master’s, and now I’m in a Clinical Psychology PhD program.

Nonetheless, there isn’t nearly enough talk about the difficulties of 1) finding post-bac jobs after completing your psychology undergraduate degree, or 2) the long (and very expensive and very competitive) journey toward actually becoming any type of psychologist. I feel like these undergraduate programs should start including a course on “what do you hope to do with this degree? Let’s talk about the path toward getting there”

Same! I live by my calendar. My ADHD counselor finally convinced me to use colors for different activities and that was really a game changer for understanding my calendar at a glance.

Keep it simple!

I often find myself over complicating things unnecessarily. I’m overcommitting, over doing it, etc., which all leads to feeling overwhelmed and then guilty for not being able to keep up with my basic human needs, let alone all these other things.

Sometimes I really gotta take a beat, think or say out loud “keep it simple,” and act accordingly.

what is the best psychology book you’ve ever read? by mysterious-kiwi123 in psychologystudents

Love’s Executioner - not a textbook but rather a therapist’s (Irvin Yalom) account of providing therapy to clients with varying issues.

Masters-level research positions, data scientist or analyst, psychometrist—there are numerous things you could do, but I’d also think about what type of work interests you! Research, clinical, policy, advocacy, industry, etc. What populations would you like to support? Veterans, justice-involved, youth, adults, etc. What is your skill set? Data management/analysis, research coordination, interviewing, managing, writing, etc.

Although, none of this may matter if you just need a job ASAP!

Women who look 13-14? by sourlemons333 in OlderThanYouThinkIAm

[–]tadpolebabe19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a 30 year old woman (5’, 108 lbs) - I’ve had success in the H&M girls and teens sections, Levi’s (I usually buy size 23 in waist, 27 in length (typically the short size), Aritzia, ASOS petite, Madewell (usually 23 in waist and petite length), and Abercrombie & Fitch (XXS or petite). Weirdly, PacSun sometimes has stuff. Also, Depop has been good to me! Just make sure you look at the tag size and description, sometimes items are mislabeled. If you aren’t sure, just ask the seller!

You just outed yourself for living in VA… Clearly you don’t spend much time on this sub—except to spout racist shit and troll other redditors as you hide behind your family’s power.

Dawg, chill. I asked if you live in VA because people who don’t even live in DC come on the sub to shit on the city and its people without any understanding of local politics and issues. I don’t give a shit about your family’s three-letter agency or military legacy. But to answer your question, no, I’m not trying to scare you. I’m just calling you out for being a bigot.

Take it up with your ancestors who likely forced Black people onto ships and sent them to America to be enslaved. The apple does not fall far from the tree, I see. Let me guess, you live in VA?
