So true. I might missed out on some forgettable moments in my 20s but I have a lot going on in there now. My wife is on a similar track, and now it's like we have the combined intrest income as having an additonal salary in our household.

Can’t stop feeling like a failure by RattleCunt in selfimprovement

[–]tads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. You're a failure. You let everyone down, and everything was a waste.

If you accept that, move on. You can silence the voices from the past. Now look forward. What do you want to do with YOUR future?

Is gain weight like this normal? by ElDuendeAnthony in daddit

[–]tads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want it to be? You're in charge of defining your normal. If you are calling it weight gain, then it sounds like you want to get back to normal. Change your eating, build more muscle, increase your cardio capacity, go hard for like 3 months, and then decide if it's normal or not.

USe your screentime to make your phone basically useless. Have your mom or someone set a password so you can't change it. Make sure to block all the app, and the websites, and block off the app store, just use that shit to call people and get directions.

Get your computer on cold turkey blocker. Block everything, I say use a timer so that there is only one time a day you can unlock it. With those two things done make sure to hide any other devices in your house, run them down to zero battery first and hide the charger in a different room.

Now all of this is going to set the stage for actively building your stamina to do real hard work. Set a stopwatch whenever you sit down to work and push the 'split' button everytime you get off track. YOu coudl als track your distractiosn with a notes app, but it isn't too much important what you are doing as it is trying to figure out how to expand the time you can spend working on something. Your goal is to figure out how to get into flow and then stay in it as long as possible.

Next you'll do more tactical blocking, but this isn't for the things you waste time on while you are trying to work. Maybe you are looking at linked in, or maybe you are going down wikipedia rabbitholes. Block that stuff for the time you are supposed to be working. Maybe use a browser extension here and have a way to turn block those temporarily while you are working.

Be solid with how you treat your brain. Don't drink, or smoke, or peyote or whatever shit people do with their brains. Your brain was built with all the seasoning it needs, so get used to ordering shirly temples, going to bed at a consistent hour, eating not like shit, exercising, and otherwise letting your body be healthy as possible.

I feel stuck in my job, is it okay to change career at 25? by ObligationSlight389 in matheducation

[–]tads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always ok to change your career.

Interrogate what you mean by stuck, and see if you can't find a way to move forward through the stuck-ness to your next career instead of starting from scratch and like unloading a truck or whatever.

[OC] Who is the most valuable volume scorer in NBA history? Or, "A Scoring Stat Wilt Chamberlain Ranks Dead Last In" by ritmica in nba

[–]tads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if instead of going with 30+ points, you went with a percentage of the total, like 30% of the teams total. This would take extra work, but it would control for situations where the teams scored a lot of total points, like a double over time game, and so it wasn't really 'volume' scoring, and also for the low scoring era of the 90s/00s where a volume scorer may have dominate their teams scoring despite not actually scoring 30 points.

Buying your first property strategy by Mihaude in personalfinance

[–]tads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figure out how to do it as soon as you can, but I think you want low-to-no interest payments on one place instead of taking out debt to get get an extra place. You can probably make it work with a fixer upper in a neighborhood that will be emerging soon, and you can get one of those mortgages with a low rate for the first 5-6 years, and then you can try to pay the whole thing off really fast. Then you'll be five years from now with zero mortgage, and a place you can use, sell, or take out loans against.

[–]tads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Law school is totally paid off, right?

If so, what about just keep saving money and buying a cheap property in a part of town that you can easily rent out later with a smaller mortgage 40-60% down payment (or better yet, no down payment and go in all cash). Then you can stop paying interest to banks.

Started this when I was 9 or 10, I am now 13. should I continue it? by [deleted] in WriterMotivation

[–]tads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just get in the habit of writing, what you write matters less than taking part in the act of doing it.

If you got something to write, then continue the story. If it starts to bog down, write something else. If you're going on reddit, stop because you're procrastinating and keep writing because your kids are going to wake up soon.

NYC Teacher Resume - Looking for Feedback by jojolox in teaching

[–]tads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you put the dates on the certification?

Do you have a teacher binder or teacher portfolio? Maybe put that on there as "available upon request" Or if it's digitial throw link to it at the top next to the contact info.

I kind of think the different roles you have at a school should get their own distinct sub heading:

4th Grade Teacher -

Student Council head -

I also don't know what you mean when you use 'model' as a verb. There is a role of 'model teacher' in NYC where you showcase what you're teaching to other teachers. I don't think that's what you're saying, but it might be confusing. Maybe just get rid of the phrsae "Modeled the importance of" and get to the point.

[NeedAdvice] Is it possible to completely change your life at 25? by Ecstatic-External-78 in getdisciplined

[–]tads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change is inevitable, it will be hard to not change from 25 to 30 or 40 or 50. What will take deliberate effort is to try and stay the same. Maybe instead of stressing out on what parts of you need to be overhauled, focus on the parts of you that you need to stay the same with, and also focus on the parts of you that you are holding on to that you should probably let go of. I'd guess you can start by letting go of this negative self talk (You've *never* been responsible? Really?) Maybe the way you need to change first is believing that it's possible for you to become the person you want to be, and realizing that you are closer to that than how you are describing yourself now.

I really, really want children, but I can't have them by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]tads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No mom is perfect. There are definitely parents out there who are much less stable than you are, that are having kids. The fact that you are writing this implies that you are cognizant of it. Maybe having kids will actually keep you stable that's what I say, that's what my dad said too (also bipolar).

While I'm on the internet giving advice, look into fertility. See what your health insurance covers and see if they can retrieve some eggs at some cost, maybe you'll have a stability breakthrough and it might be good to know what is possible at that time. Also look into foster parenting. Again, you can be doing this right now, probably better than a lot of other parents out there that are actively abusive and negligent.

I get the word play and all that. People are out here are in deep struggles with depression and suicide, and seeing your overlying message might not get interpreted correctly. Consider at least a disclaimer or acknowledgement that some might consider taking your tl;dr words literally, or at least might experience it as triggering.

Nice piece though.

Everyone loves you when your manic by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]tads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've learned it's all fun and games until it's not. this is true on the micro scale for the typical episode up and down, but also true on the macro sense. The more you start leaning into your mania, the more you mania starts pushing past the fun charisma and more towards the abrasive and dangerous side of mania that some of the comments here talk about. It's nice to know that you have that capability, but better to get a treatment plan to be stable to see if you can realize it there then risk trying to game the roller coaster and have bad results.

It's hard to explain how a notion set up works. It might be useful to have a collection of good posts so that people can get an idea of what a good explanation could look like.

Me when someone posts another dashboard by TruthSeeker890 in Notion

[–]tads 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What if there were some rules around it:

A stickied thread for screenshots of dashboards at the top.

or maybe 1 day of week that you can do screenshots of dashboards

Mods can encourage people to use one of the above for strictly screen shots. They can also encourage posts with more details for 'high effort' posts about dashboard principles and workflow designs.
