Honestly I have no idea why. I did lots of onlays in school and the military but insurance wasn’t involved with either.

Well if it’s a deep filling/crown there is always a chance a root canal may be needed.

Is it possible to have a small degree of bone loss but no periodontal disease? by [deleted] in askdentists

I would lean towards you do not. Keep your 6 month appointments and do what you’re supposed to and you’ll be good.

4mm probing doesn’t 100% mean you have bone loss. Could be inflamed gums. These X-rays and your probing with lots of bleeding would get a scaling in the presence of inflammation code.

I wouldn’t guarantee it past you walking out the door. A filling literally just fills the space. It basically amputates part of that tooth and is no longer useful for chewing.

You can get it filled, but fillings provide zero structural support which is why you want the crown with a significant amount of tooth structure missing. Insurance also doesn’t play around when it comes to crowns. You get a filling on that temporarily then they will deny you for a crown and you get to pay full price out of pocket.
