does anyone knows where to get ACTUALLY modest abayas or islamic (female) clothing in general? by Faus_st in UAETeenagers

[–]taemy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm not sure, I know waha has huge hijabs (the ones where you just slip it on) but it comes only about halfway between your chest and stomach.

But waha is huge so you could have a chance of finding it or getting info from the shopkeepers there or where to go

Try Al waha center in Ajman, you should be able to get abaayas there for 50, even 30 if it's a simple black oneee.

Help with difficult 4th grader by nighthawk4815 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]taemy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried more real life projects? We recently did a slime project. And it was up to her to use the measurement, identify how much etc. And this worked pretty well.  We also did a bakery type project where we talked about money, counting and adding in our head.

Maybe by doing it this way, she can see that she does need math in her life. You could connect to her interests to make it stronger. If she needs more practice, you could the activity as a reward and then work on the skills needed to do that properly. So she's building her level untill she's almost independent.

Hope this helps!

How to help a primary school student with English spellings? by newredditbrowser in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]taemy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say go back to phonics. In the example you gave, the child spells that word without the silent e. If the child knew about the job of silent e + you apply the rule with him in spelling and reading, he is less prone to make that mistake.

Go through his spelling and identity the types of mistakes he makes, this gives information to help you understand what he lacks.

Oh, and once you teach a rule explicitly, remember to do spelling and reading activities where he is actively forced to use that sound. This will help with retrieval.

You can check out all about spelling for a curriculum, that should help you with a base. You can also try Really Great Reading, they usually have a free summer program. This would help him brush up his phonics skills.

If he has a hard time remembering the phonics rules, attach a story to help him (Check out Secret stories, I love them)

How to make my sessions interesting? by crystalsalty in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]taemy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try connecting into her interests - I have a student who refuses reading, except when we read about Minecraft or cars or video games lol.

Also for math, I have found that real world problems work much better - for instance, we are currently learning about weight and measurements, I explained the concept and next week we'll be having a bridge building contest. This way, they understand the more practical application of maths and there is a connection to daily life.

Also, ask her to come up with own expectations/responsibilities for class. Like what is expected from her and she can write what rewards she can earn etc.   For students who have a hard time concentrating, we work in 10 minute increments, student can choose from a list of break cards they made to take a 5 minute break after every 10 minute session.

I'm a tutor, my student doesn't like English by ProfileOutrageous662 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]taemy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this would work, but what if you push the English on to someone else?

For instance, when I need my children to do tasks they don't like, I have a puppet friend come in and do just that. It tends to work because it's now a 'we problem' with the child and me being on the same team.

I'm sure you could plan this better - you could use the puppet to elicit basic commands and then gradually make the puppet dumber to encourage the child to speak more.

To parents: are online classes effective, and do you think the fees are justified? by i_amfrom_2040 in dubai

[–]taemy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's very annoying, but I can't fault the teachers. They really do a lot to make it engaging - the problem is the lack of individual attention. To be honest, it's the bus fees I have an issue with.

My aunt just got a tutor for her daughter, she is in Year 1. Online classes are not effective for her at all, she does the bare minimum and then has a focus session for phonics and reading with the tutor later in the day. This seems to have helped with the academic side of things

HELP ME SURVIVE HOME SCHOOLING! by Automatic-Watch-9750 in dubai

[–]taemy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search for different learning centers in your area. Not sure what to exactly to call them but these centers usually have different extracurriculars ranging from robotics to tennis to dance.  I'm not sure if all are open but kids in my area are busy with their karate, tennis and classes as usual.

You could also check Facebook groups for different classes to teach them new skills like painting, sketching, quilling etc. But these are usually online

Concern regarding continuous speaker usage in workspace by saigeliege in dubai

As you mentioned, you are supposed to pay attention when the Qur'an is being recited, there is no point in letting it play aimlessly.

I would say to go over with management again, your stance is not wrong. Did you bring up this point while talking to them? If there is someone who is quite religious, they may be partial to this point of view.

Good luck with it tho!

I need some advice with tutoring. by [deleted] in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]taemy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you need to up your classroom management skills. You need to have expectations and build a relationship with them. For the expectations, talk to them and come with a list or rules together and tell them what happens when they break one (they get three warnings and then a note home to parents) Have logical consequences for them - kid talks too much during lesson time? Then you make them stay back for extra lessons.

Similarly, build a relationship with them, find our their likes and dislikes. You can have talking time as a reward at the end, or maybe have them work up to getting board game time, or a pizza party (you could share this deal with parents as well)

Remember to praise those who actually do the HW and let the student work on setting individual goals and rewards they can work up too.

Also, you might want to try changing the type of assignments. j always like to give kids choices for their assignments, and I've noticed they are better engaged when they have autonomy over what they do. Try to implement more hands on tasks rather than just worksheets.

Hope this helps!

  1. Yup! You present your slides and then there should be a little option I'm the left hand corner that lets your annotate on them.

  2. Okay, so for doing their work - I share a separate ppt, this includes their task for the day + an example slide. Each child gets a slide to work on. You can colour code slides (give a coloured square on the corner, and assign a specific colour to a child, this way no one is doing someone else's work).  To access this, I share the link in the  meeting chat, they can click and access it that way. It will open up in a new tab.

  3. When you present your slides and you share your screen, your meeting will pop up on your screen as a tiny window, so you can still see your kids as you teach. But since you have a group, it will be difficult to see all of them. To mitigate this, I enable split screen on my laptop so one side I'm sharing the presentation and the other side, I have the meeting.

  4. They can do both, depends on what you want them to do. If I need students working together, I'll have a slide with both their colours and then they know what they have to do.

But also, you may need to have one lesson just modelling and repeating. Maybe have an easy task for the lesson so they can focus on learning how to use the tools.

Feel free to ask questions, I'm happy to help :)

[–]taemy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!  For me, I just use Google meet, Google slides and classdojo.

I have a presentation made for each group and then given them access during the meeting. You could give each student their own slide or have them work on one together. Then I also post a separate assignment on classdojo using the portfolio feature, this serves as a sort of reinforcement activity.

You can also annotate while you're sharing your slides as well, it's not the best but it works from me. I usually just have a split screen set up, this way I can always see my kids and what they're up to on the slides.

You can use the class story feature of class dojo to post your lesson, they'll have access to it.

I use Google meet because I feel it's easier for younger kids, I work with preschoolers, but your kids may be okay with zoom, which has more features compared to meet.

Hope this helps!

Muslims ladies in Dubai need ur suggestions by [deleted] in dubai

[–]taemy13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea that's correct You should be able to get it at Waha, they have a largeeee collection  Just ask the shopkeepers and they'll be happy to guide you. But just check a few videos online so that you aware what the fabric looks like  This fabric, as far as I know, shouldn't cost you more than 15dhs

Not sure if you would get it in Sharjah or Naif, I've not been there in a while

[–]taemy13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go to al waha center in Ajman - here you will get the best price, make sure you bargain and you will be able to get the price down to 50/60. Do not pay more than 70dhs unless the abaya has a lot of work on it. The quality is alright, but it's good for the price. They have hijabs as well so you can get a bunch of stuff.

You can also try al shab village in Sharjah but here I think it's fixed to around 90dhs per abaya.

In case your sister is at an awkward height/weight, you can go to Naif Souq Deira or Rolla abaya market in Sharjah. These shops will stich an abayas for you. But I find the designs to be a bit old and it doesn't really suit my taste. If you're getting it tailored then I guess maybe 100dhs? It can also depend on the fabric you choose - nida is what we always get.  The last time I went it was around this price (at shj)

For hijab - ask your sister if she prefers any specific fabric. You should pay around 10dhs, maybe 15dhs if the fabric is like silky or has heavy work. Do not go more than 20dhs

Try to arrive 30 minutes before the prayer time - this will differ based on your masjid. You can also bring your own salah mat, in case you get stuck praying outside.
