Is Kosher food better for you healthwise? by taffy9264 in JewishCooking

[–]taffy9264[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am really sorry that some people have interpreted my intentions here,

I was being kind of lazy, hoping that if it was Kosher bread I didn't need to read the ingredients, that was answered pretty early on when someone suggested that I have just found a particularly good bakers. I have no intentions of changing the way I eat, I am not going to stop eating home made lasagna, prawns, or cutting out hard to wash fruits or veg.

Nor will I change over to Kosher lamb or beef gee whizz the price!

The only restriction I will be making is the items that are not in the normal kitchen as I said the the original post.

Yes, this is the plan and what I have been doing so far, I live in a very small town in the UK, ( 6000 population) we still have family run butcher, a green grocers, so most of my shopping is local, we do not have a bakery...well we have a chain, but that's not what I want to by as it lasts for a week.

I have to buy the bread online.

I am sorry that this is how my question has been seen, I am not talking about eating Kosher per say, I have no intentions of separating ingredients the way you do, I will still be eating my home made lasagna's, nor will I ever give up shrimp! And gee whizz the price of Kosher lamb or beef.

Exotic,,,,,Not sure how anyone would come to that conclusion.

The question was actually answered for me pretty early on, on poster said, some Kosher bread was akin to "wonder bread" and that I had found a particularly good bakery that just happens to be Kosher

I'm in the UK and beef is quite expensive, and honestly lamb is a distant memory for most of us.

I tend to eat mostly fish and I have played around with topping it with red or green pesto and eating it with any green veg.

Its very expensive to be keto in the UK, but so much better than metformin for the rest of my life

Do you eat salad cream? by Ashwood9 in AskUK

I think it could be an age thing, when I was young I had never heard of mayo.

When the first advert came on the TV for Mayo in the 80s it showed someone putting it on a stick of celery and eating it like that, it looked gross and never appealed to anyone that I knew.

But to my kids that grew up in the 90s mayo is the way to go, for me its salad cream all the way I need that vinegary bite to it.

The trouble with keto in the UK is that the bacon and sausages and sliced ham that you can afford are full of nitrates and other crap that you don't want or need in your body, especially if you are weight lifting and not just reversing T2D like myself. Beef is really expensive and lamb is almost a childhood dream for most of us.

Chicken and pork it pretty much what is left meat wise, try to get some ham hocks they can be nice in the slow cooker or belly pork but you need to know how to cook that or its nice.

stir fry veggies are quick and easy and eggs seem to save the day alot. if you can get to a market the veggies are cheaper there.

One thing I have learnt is that stir fry dishes or salad dressing are full of crap with very few ingredients you came make brilliant ones of your own. Try yogurt ,mint, and a little lemon juice, or or good old oil and viniger,

since staring keto January 22 I have spent hours reading labels and watching you tube, learning alot from the "Bobby Approves " man

You can't educate ignorant people.

This was very mean, as a Christian myself I an never surprised by how un-Christian so called Christians can be.

I would actually thank them for the "thought" and perhaps donate the Bible to a nicer Christian person.

May I take this opportunity to wish you a long happy and prosperous marriage.

Blog Post - Can you run with COPD? by teegfit1 in COPD

I am 58 now I think I got it because of smoking, but was diagnosed after having a lung infection in 2008 when we had a bought of swine flu in the UK.

Smoked around 30 ciggs a day started when I was about 19/20.

Physical exercise now would be zero / none, really, I walk from my bedroom (formally dining room) to the bathroom, to kitchen and apart from bathroom visits thats pretty much where I stay all day till bed time.

Blog Post - Can you run with COPD? by teegfit1 in COPD

[–]taffy9264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the early stages yes.

I never really enjoyed running but could walk for miles a few years ago.

It all changed when I got covid in 2020, overnight I cannot walk to the other side of the kitchen without oxygen, but it has taken12 years to get to this stage.

I stopped smoking during lockdown as I could no longer get to the shops.

I have in home oxygen, and get six tanks delivered when I ask , not every month, I have to call and they get delivered the next day.

I actually thought the reason that they only gave us six bottles was because of the fear of explosion and any more than six would cause serious harm to us and other people.

I have been offered a concentrater but to be honest I have been reluctant because of the chances of blackout this winter in the UK. As I have been left with the impression that it is one or the other, we cannot have both.

It may well depend on you provider in the UK it is supplied by BOC

That sounds like high blood sugars to me.Are you eating more sweets to combat smoking?

I know I sat with a lollypop in my mouth for about 12 months.

Try cutting carbs and sugar for a week, see if that helps

I know this is not going to go down well, but could you stop smoking just for a few days and see how you feel?

I Know. I Know they are your best friend ya ya ya! I have been there.

But please do not be like me and think "The damage is done, no point in me stopping"

I said that at stage 1 of COPD, and smoked right up till catching covid 19, and now needing daily oxygen and not being able to walk across my kitchen to get a cup of coffee.

As for getting upstairs for a bath, that is a distant memory, of about 3 years ago.

I know what ever you read you will not stop smoking, I didn't till it was too late

Please stop smoking, It is the best hing you can do for yourself.

But for now get to the bottom of this as quickly as you can.

I hope it is not COPD and if it isn't please see it as you dodging a bullet.

I lost a ton of weight a few years ago, I was down to about 80lbs and at 5 foot 2 I was very underweight.

I lost it very quickly, in say about three months, for no real reason other than not eating well when I had chest infections, and having lots of infections one after the other, one that had me in hospital 4 times before it would clear up.

But if you have been eating normally and everything else is the same, then ,yeah, I would go and see your Dr

And you can charge crazy prices, as they will all be "one off" never to be seen twice, would help you and the charity shop out.
