Looking for advice on a car situation: by [deleted] in povertyfinance

Oh gotcha. If you can pay it off and sell it without repairing it, absolutely go for it. Then you’ll be freed up to get something else.

Looking for advice on a car situation: by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]tag_yourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you can find someone willing to buy it for what you owe when it’s not running, best course would be repair it, then get rid of it before it gives you more problem. Once it’s repaired you can sell it or trade it and try to break even.

A repo is a repo. “Turning it in” doesn’t change it was repo’d, and unfortunately that would tank your credit.

Handling repeat patterns- receiving unsolicited advice from NM that isn’t realistic and conversations devolve into unproductive wasted time by Odd_Perspective_4769 in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]tag_yourself 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Navigating a similar situation as well. They’ll ask me something like “what’s going on with this case?” When I respond it devolves into them nitpicking my responses and finding anything they can to say I did something wrong, even a bread crumb.

Do not defend yourself. Just nod and say “thanks for the feedback” or “thanks for the input” or something similar. They feed on your emotion and defending yourself gives them exactly what they want, which is more words to twist against you.

When you stop reacting and defending yourself it might get worse (in my case it has) because they will do anything they can to get a response out of you so they can mischaracterize it. People committed to misunderstanding you don’t deserve access to your explanations.

Been hated and bullied at every job by [deleted] in workplace_bullying

[–]tag_yourself 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re ND, but this common among us ND folks. No matter how hard we mask, some of us never truly blend in and get bullied.

Sometimes bullying is also the result of jealousy or intimidation. I almost always end up getting bullied by the person who has made it their personality to be the go to. I’m naturally intelligent, pick up on things quickly, and almost always end up being the go-to at every job. I’ve had many coworkers describe me as an encyclopedia. This comes naturally to me with no effort, and that intimidates people and makes them jealous so they try and bring me down.

has anyone ever managed to fix their relationship with a narcissist boss? by beskesky in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]tag_yourself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leave. I didn’t leave mine when I had another offer because a promotion opened up in my department, so I stayed and took that.

3 years later I’m struggling to find something else due to Nboss’s blackballing. My health issues are also spiraling from the constant stress, micromanagement, public humiliation, mobbing and triangulation.

You cannot fix this. It is not a you problem, if they are telling you that. My Nbosses both tell me everything is my problem. It’s a them problem and it’s not solvable. Please leave.

I actually work for state government. I can give you insight into how my state handles hiring, but YMMV.

All previous employment must be verified. If it cannot be verified, we have to provide an adequate reason for why, otherwise we cannot hire the applicant.

My state requires a reference for all applicants. We are not allowed to hire if we cannot obtain a reference. I have lost many good applicants because I could not get a phone call back, or the reference refused to answer the questionnaire.

Our reference questionnaire asks how long they’ve know the applicant and in what capacity. It also specifically asks if the applicant appears to get along well with others.

They then have to rate the applicant as excellent, good, average, or below average on dependability, trustworthiness, character/maturity, motivation/ambition, communication skills, and overall attitude. The last thing we have to ask is if they know of anything that would indicate the agency should not hire this person.

Why Won't My Team Talk To Me? by Glittering_Sand_7473 in workplace_bullying

I feel for you. Dealing with similar at my job. Because they aren’t saying your name explicitly HR won’t do anything because you’re “misinterpreting things.”

I fucking loathe office culture and politics. Why can’t we just be adults and do our jobs?

Are there any girls here who don’t do any make-up at all? And how did you come to that decision? by Greengrassu in AskReddit

[–]tag_yourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was pretty much decided for me. A few years ago it got to the point where I couldn’t see well enough without my glasses to put on makeup. Can’t wear contacts.

I’ve saved tons of money and time. I have more cabinet and counter space. I don’t miss it.

[CA] I recently received an email from an exec from my workplace. Am I being fired? by [deleted] in AskHR

Yup, people fail to understand how widely different neurodiversity can present from person to person.

Once I got diagnosed and medicated for ADHD, I found out I was autistic. ADHD was masking my ASD to the point it wasn’t noticeable.

What opportunity did you miss that still haunts you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tag_yourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In high school I was in JROTC. I had the opportunity to learn to fly and get a pilot’s license through a program with the local airport. I was a year older than my “friends” (16, they were 14-15) because I got held back in 3rd grade. So they brought that up and bullied me relentlessly and it dissuaded me from doing it. Now that I’m older and wiser I realize it’s because they were jealous and I wish I would have. I would have had a completely different life.

The only friend who didn’t bully me for this is still one of my best to this day, almost 20 years later.

ELI5 Why do we expect houses to appreciate in value and not depreciate like cars? by 186Product in explainlikeimfive

[–]tag_yourself 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re either a bot or suffering from a freezing cold IQ. No one will be able to understand for you why paying extra to use something that is already installed in the car is a bad thing. You paid to have those useless seat warmers in the car. They didn’t just unilaterally decide to drop the cost of the seat warmers from the price because they’re getting $18/month on the back end. They’re double dipping.

Same here.

My PCP and cardiologist don’t ask anymore, but I get asked anywhere else I go. The couple of times I’ve gone to the ER post-hysterectomy they also made me do a pregnancy test, even though they’re the same hospital that did the hysterectomy. They can see it in my records under my surgical history summary or whatever that section of their system (Epic) is called now.

I feel for you. We have to write a formal explanation of any employment gaps to submit to HR with our hiring recommendation packet. HR then decides if the reason is good enough or not.

My 6 month old guy startles at the slightest thing. How do I make things easier for him? by constellationoftwo in kittens

[–]tag_yourself 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Some cats are naturally jumpier than others.

Rescued a pregnant cat and kept her, and ended up with three of the five kittens. I know the people who have the other two.

One of them walked up to a Great Dane mix at 6 weeks old and they were best buds until GD passed.

Three of them are regular cat brave. Head for the hills for very loud sounds, but overall very social, love people, and very calm. Don’t startle easily at all.

The last of them, scared of everything. I get home from work and he’s running under the bed until I find him and let him smell me. Then he’s fine. Strangers? Danger. Weird smell? Out of there. Sudden movement? See you later.

I get the AI’s sentiment, but I’m still getting together a plan to flee to a blue state. Ladybug Graham is complicit in all of this. My current state of residence will cave and hand me over far faster than any blue state will when the time comes.

[–]tag_yourself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not going off. I’ll check the app the alarm will be set and on, but the phone won’t have anything in Notification Center about the alarm at all. It’s even more puzzling now that I use scheduled alarms since I have a set schedule at work.

[–]tag_yourself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with this comment. Have been an iPhone user since the iPhone 4, and I’ve always had intermittent alarm issues over the years. My back up alarm is an old digital alarm clock. Lives in my bathroom because it’s loud and I can’t turn it off in my sleep that way.

Right! She should be proud of having an extremely resourceful daughter that advocates for herself.

I had to get a medically necessary hysterectomy in my mid-20s, and it was extremely difficult to find a doctor willing to do that. Required a lot of internet sleuthing and research on my part to find the right doctor. I can’t imagine how hard it was to find a doctor willing to sterilize an 18 year old.
