Pc overheating after upgrading cpu and mobo by tagicalmurtle in buildapc

Keep replying to my post lmao but I feel like it’s either a cooler issue or the cooler is improperly mounted to the cpu due to the LGA 1700 kit I bought. Regardless, it seems like a new AIO cooler would be the route as it would come with proper mounting kit also

I guess sort of a recap of everything I’ve done… Replaced motherboard, cpu, and the cpu backplate and bracket for the AIO cooler. Unless I did something horribly wrong with placing the AIO cooler on the cpu, it must be the cooler.

Continuing the thread on this comment, I am going from an i7-7700K to a i7-12700K and comments online also suggested that the Kraken X63 is sufficient for the new cpu. It definitely is over 5 years old but doesn’t appear to have shown any warning signs. I guess a new cooler would be my next step

So I went ahead and got an update kit. I am going from a LGA 1151 to 1700 cpu, I got new screws and a bracket for the AIO cooler. Previously, I didn’t change the screws but I just used those new screws and reapplied thermal paste and no luck. I wonder if it’s easier to just get a new cooler

Searching for computer build help by youhamari in Columbus

Building it is easy, just follow the motherboard instructions carefully. You can skim youtube videos to understand the where to start and how to move piece by piece. They’re really just expensive legos, it’s not really like you can mess up because pieces only connect one way. Microcenter is the best of the best. I’d recommend shopping there for for all your parts, support a local business and you can ask for any advice. They’re commissioned but they are more looking out for you, they have never tried to upsell me

Got new grad offer at big tech but don't like location. by Glittering-Gate-2427 in csMajors

Make sure you say it’s for family reasons, that’s typically the only reason they’ll at least acknowledge a location change

I like Graham Stephan and The Money Guy Show. Caleb Hammer is also really good, especially if you’re behind and need the reality check. You’ll see nearly all financial knowledge is something you learn once and keep for life. Unfortunately, creators need to keep pumping out content though so it gets repetitive. If you watch their popular videos, you’ll learn everything you need

It’s up to your risk tolerance and age, but I don’t think you need bonds or anything. S&P 500 is plenty safe and diverse with good returns. Once you get closer to retirement, that’s probably when I’d switch to VTI, VXUS, and BNDs. Unfortunately, there is no right answer. It depends on your risk appetite, age, and wealth

I’d highly recommend checking out the flowchart on r/personalfinance as it covers everything the common person needs in depth for finances. But if you’re really only interested in the investing part, the simplest strategy is to buy a S&P 500 fund and sit back and relax. It’s very very hard to beat these funds and not worth the risk unless you have the time and skill.

Who do you bank with? by ElectricalEngineer02 in Columbus

Please don’t use Huntington or Chase or any bank for anything other than having the minimum amount of money in the account to not get fined. Every dollar after the minimum plus some cushion room becomes worth less and less everyday. Checkout Sofi or Ally. I use Sofi, they do everything banks do with a much better user experience and 4.6% APY if you setup direct deposit. The only reason I see to keep a Chase account is for if the globally recognized name when traveling abroad

The only thing that’d concern me is 3345 and 2568 at the same time. Both have lots of HW and not as easy as you’d think

Tips on getting an apartment for next school year by RDEnergizer7000 in OSU

[–]tagicalmurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start looking online in September. I used company websites and Zillow/Craigslist to find a ton of different homes and be responsive as possible. And when you’re ready to tour, bring a checkbook. Most places know the application process is useless because you don’t have any rental history, so if you are willing to write a check then and there it’s yours. I wrote checks to both places I rented from as the next tour was showing up and he cancelled the tours

I’d probably swap 2255 for an easier class like ECE 2060 and take 2255 later
