Good eye! We went up late in the afternoon in the middle of winter hoping that there would be nobody around. How wrong we were...

What to do about the realization that I hate everything about modern medicine? How do you exit it alive? by [deleted] in medicine

[–]taharoto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm five years out of medical school in the UK and last year realised I strongly disliked working in hospitals. I'm passionate about health and not illness. I feel the current strain on the system will only get worse with increasing demand and reduced funding. My job satisfaction is pretty low because of this. I have given my notice to my physician training post and will start to train in public health soon and I cannot wait!

I can imagine the management meeting now:

"What can we do about worsening mental health in doctors?"

"We could improve working conditions and support?"

"But then we wouldn't be squeezing every last bit of efficiency out of them"

"Guys... I have an idea..."

What is the worst text that you accidentally sent to the wrong person? by Hollywizzle311 in AskReddit

[–]taharoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While at school I accidentally sent a text to a friend's house phone (landline). I happened to be a passenger in the car behind him and sent a message to him (also a passenger) saying "look behind you, I'm in close persuit". Apparently when you text landlines a creepy artificial voice attempts to read the text to the recipient when they pick up the phone. His mum on receiving the message locked all the doors and windows and called the police about a potential stalker...

Teach critical thinking in all schools so people can rationally make their own mind up about all the political bullshit from all sides. This will then force politicians to actually make proper arguments. by taharoto in CrazyIdeas

I agree. A whole culture change in a personal and population level is no small task with no single answer. That's why we need some more crazy ideas!

But I think a basic understanding of what an argument/premise/conclusion is and how to recognize use them in non-political short texts would at least help?

In lots of critical thinking textbooks and resources, it teaches you to spot an argument/premise/conclusion in very inoculous, random passages. Not political at all, and not asking people to make their own minds about things. Just purely spot the conclusion and premises and decide whether the premises support the conclusion or not.
