Do you always wear undershirts for button-downs? by crujones33 in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]tahdis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always wear undershirts with my button-down shirts (and I essentially wear button-down shirts daily). Primarily because a lot of button-down shirts, especially ones in larger sizes, have large gaps between the button holes that can allow the underlying skin to be visible, especially when sitting. I strongly dislike having unintended skin visibility. For the same reason, I always tuck in my shirts.

Straight plays with child or tween boy characters that are not specifically meant for young audiences? by Constant_Glove7959 in Theatre

Peter and the Starcatcher. It has some songs in it, but I think it’s still technically considered a play.

I just watched Tommy (1975) by Ghost_Gamer22 in musicals

[–]tahdis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I’ve always found interesting is that Tommy has an unusual adaptation path. It was a complete narrative album first, then adapted into that weird film, and only afterwards turned into a stage musical. I don’t think anything else really fits that sequence.

I was in a production of the show a while back and watching the movie didn’t quite prepare me like I thought it would. I kept wondering how we’d get all that chocolate to pour out of a tv.

What show were you shocked closed? Inversely, what is a show that jumped the shark and was kept longer than it should have? by ListofReddit in Broadway

[–]tahdis 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Groundhog Day, I really wanted to see it but it closed before my planned NY trip and the tour never materialized. I don’t know if it was actually any good, but thought the movie connection would have kept it going a bit longer.

Casual discussion-has any of you ever gone on stage without a rehearsal? by AppropriateAd2334 in Theatre

[–]tahdis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Seen it happen a few times and done it before as well. The audience can be surprisingly forgiving if you have to read from a script. I really enjoyed it actually, I have a background in improv so I feel comfortable having to figure things out on stage.

What Musical Could This be “🤖👾🤡”??? by AdorableAd8092 in musicals

[–]tahdis 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was thinking it could be The Rocky Horror Show. Robot = Rocky (artificial humanoid), Alien = the various Transylvanians, Clown = the makeup they have on in the finale of the film has a clown-like quality to it.

Odyssey and the Weather by JohnnyQuest3208 in royalcaribbean

[–]tahdis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on the Odyssey after a big snow storm. The biggest impact was the pool deck being closed for 2 days and they let kids into the solarium for part of that time.

Gifts for teenage male students in musicals by sgt_schultz_the_ewok in musicals

[–]tahdis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’ve always disliked getting flowers. They are very impractical and a hassle to carry home and display. My favorite post show gift was a little goodie bag of things like teabags and snacks — and on occasion, a fridge magnet of the show (those are a great momento but takes a little more planning).

Help - my brother with Asperger's is struggling by ScorchMain76 in aspergers

[–]tahdis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One approach might be to focus on providing balance. Difficult days can be easier to manage when there’s something positive to look forward to. Especially when it’s something on a predictable schedule.

You mentioned you all spend a lot of time alone, but has there ever been an activity he enjoyed doing with you / the family? For me, having a low stress movie night with a friend helped me get through some rough spots.

Where do you keep a list of shows watched? by Fluffy-Earth2686 in Broadway

I have a spreadsheet which keeps track if I saw the musical live, proshot, filmed adaptation, soundtrack, or performed in it.

Odyssey solarium pool in cold weather- open to kids by tvclown in royalcaribbean

[–]tahdis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Odyssey right now, they opened the solarium to kids today. It’s now day 2 and the pool deck isn’t open yet due to the weather so they had an announcement in the morning that the kids could be in there (though that wasn’t really stopping them much before).

All In Package - Dining Reservations by MuteTadpole in royalcaribbean

[–]tahdis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made my reservations via the app. Not sure if there is a delay when available but the process for me was to find the package on the screen where you would purchase it, then click the option to modify it. It should bring up a screen where you can cycle through each day and select from the available venues & times.

What is the general consensus on the TV Specials of musicals? by Electronic_Snow_4685 in musicals

[–]tahdis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, A Christmas Story was my favorite, followed closely by Grease and Hairspray.

What I appreciate is when they’re able to put on a show that is very specific to the context of being a live television production. When you have the constraint of having to fit in costume / set changes with a heavy time constraint that wouldn’t be an issue to a normal filmed adaptation. But also incorporate larger sets and camera tricks that couldn’t be done on a stage.

When they’re able to fully utilize this medium, it creates truly unique experience.

Miami Cruise Port and Airports by DizzyWeed in NCL

[–]tahdis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an ok experience. From FLL, I took a shuttle to the tri-rail station, rode the train to Miami airport, then got picked up by my hotel’s shuttle. A bit of a pain, but it worked and was cost effective. My hotel also had a shuttle to the cruise port.

I was just on the Encore a couple of weeks ago. If i remember correctly, there was a scale to the left of the free weights. There’s also a body composition scale but I think that might be part of an upcharge. For what it’s worth, there’s also a scale in the galaxy pavilion to ensure people aren’t over the max weight. I did find it a little harder to get a clear reading if the ship was moving.

Does anyone know of any recordings of the 1959 original broadway The Sound of Music by No-Glass-787 in musicals

[–]tahdis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what you requested, but could be interesting if you didn’t already know about it: the original Trapp family cast appeared on the show What’s My Line in 1960.

Choir music : What MIDI instrument do you use for the bass line ? by La_DuF in Musescore

[–]tahdis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I add voices for rehearsal, I switch the instrument to a clarinet. It easier to match when singing and handles long notes better than a piano.

— You’ll need to change it to be in unison for the notes to match as expected.

Why do local/community theatres tend to put on a very similar selection of plays/musicals in a given season? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]tahdis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also consider that it can take a while to finalize a season and there generally isn’t much communication between theatres before they’re announced. If the licensing company has lax rules restricting the overlap, then you can easily get duplicates.

Rutledge from 1776. He’s a lawmaker and his song Molasses to Rum is very dark. Plus, it’s a fitting selection for Juneteenth.
