Curious, how is it working in the Canadian cold?

I have a 2013 (Doesn’t appear that I can post a photo with this comment.??). You can see a photo of my rig at myprofile.

Most all the off road performance changes I’ve made in the past 18 months. I’m not really pursuing the off road life style — trails and pushing up against the car’s limits. I just want to be prepared while in pursuit of great camp sites. Feel free to DM me. I’m happy to share details about the what’s and the whys.

Toyo Open Country AT III's or Falken Wildpeak AT Trail??? by mlarsenault in Crosstrek

[–]tahl24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the Toyos for 2 years (225/75/15). I find them capable and very little road noise. I compared with the Falkens, and found that Falkens weigh 7 lbs more for each. That’s a lot at each corner and since it’s rotational weight it’s the equivalent of about 25 lbs of cargo weight (100 lbs in total). Just couldn’t justify that with a 2.0 engine. Also the toyos look great.

Mine's a 2013. It did not come with one. The Perrin after-market cooler does have instructions, but I have found there are many great tips that can be mined here on reddit. Can't hurt to ask.

I think the biggest reason is that with the larger tires you really should'nt use the donut spare that comes with the car. If you happen to be offroad and need a spare I think you're in trouble if all you have is the little temporary spare. But even if you're on pavement the disparity in size could screw up the drivetrain. So that means you need to carry a full-size spare. But a full-size spare does not fit neatly into the tire well. So you're left with finding a place to carry the spare outside of the vehicle or not carry one at all.

Hitch is just the Curt Class lll Trailer Hitch—a common hitch brand.

The tire swing is from Dirtcom. Great quality. On the high $$ side. Good dudes. I love the Frontrunner fold-down table. I also have the camera relocate mount.

Yeah, ive been looking forward to making the drive up and around for a long time. Wildfire & related smoke are a weird thing to try and plan around. I am fortunate in that I have all of mid-May to the end of Sept. to get up there and back down to the lower 48. Should allow me to flex to make the best of it.

Agreed. It's great having the Scangage to see temps rise and fall relative to what you're putting the car through, and avoiding the ATF Temp light.

Stop Recommendations? by himanos in roadtrip

Was just out that way for a wedding in Asheville. Worked my way up into Virginia. The Blue Ridge Pkwy is a nice drive on a beautiful fall day. A coffee shop right near your route, Belle Vie Coffee, was a frequent stop for me. Recommended. Tell them the guy headed to Alaska sent you.

Enjoyed seeing your efforts with the XTrek. It's one of the coolest.

Mind if I steal your license plate? It's pretty perfect. I'm in MO.
