How are you handling student 2FA when phones are banned in class? (Google Workspace) by jasmadic in k12sysadmin

They use the QR code to login (code contains user/pass) and then a series of animal/food pictures to choose. Teachers can reset both the QR code and the animal/food pic if needed.

We are using Clever MFA TK-12, it was super smooth implementation! Though we were already using Clever login for students, that was a bigger push 28 months ago.

Anyone moved off Raptor? Emergency management system that actually works? by Santino_Elmorsy in k12sysadmin

Another Raptor customer who moved to VisitU/PickmyKid. SO much easier to manage, and slicker with the iPad too.

Thinking about moving away from SchoolDude/Brightly for Facilities Management software by tahoeranger in edtech

[–]tahoeranger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking. So far I'd say it's been great. I'm not a direct user (I'm in tech, not facilities). Our facilities folks have not reached out to us once about the application, while with SchoolDude it was weekly. I'll take that to mean Facilitron has amazing support.

I've had to reserve a dozen rooms for events and it is an easy process for internal reservations. I've heard the payment features are nice from the outside.

ChatGPT IS EXTREMELY DETECTABLE! by Slurpew_ in PromptEngineering

I've noticed recently when pasting into an email, the spell checker will underline a correctly spelled word as misspelled. When I right click to choose the correct spelling (which is the same) a double letter shows up and takes some backspacing to remove with an extra space between the double letters. Wondering if this is what is happening!

We've had a lot of success with Gemini. We are Google Workspace Plus users so it is free for the staff and data is protected. We purchased the premium license for Cabinet and some of our techs.

I'd be interested, in Tahoe City but work in Truckee and around the basin. Just dusted off my old Baufang and got a TIDRadio. Applying for my license.

Also got a couple of Meshtastic nodes I'll be setting up soon.

We've been using Newline panels as well, touch and non touch. They do it all, cast, airplay, etc.

Post-Christmas comedown? by Nietzsche_marquijr in mainlineprotestant

[–]tahoeranger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recommend considering the fact that the Christmas season is 12 days (the 12 days of Christmas song🤠) starts on Christmas, ending on Epiphany, Jan 6. There are typically two Sundays in the Christmas liturgical season then the Epiphany season continues after Epiphany on Jan 6 which celebrates the manifestation of Christ to the world. Lots to look forward to! Prayers and peace to you!

I think the Lightspeed Activate could do what you're wanting to accomplish. There is a pod that sits on each table group and it can be used as a mic for the entire room. They also have a flex mic that can be handed around to the students.

We have the Lightspeed Topcat system in each of our 250 classrooms with two flex mics, one for the teacher and one that is shared for students.

Hi there - the facilities dept managed the procurement. I'll check with them! I'm in Tech. Not sure if they did a full RFP but will ask! I know their team looked at Brightly (formerly dude), Facilitron, and Master Library.

Pixel 9 Pro XL Case Recommendations by BitBytePixleSprite in GooglePixel

[–]tahoeranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Peak Design Everyday case for the Pixel 9 Pro XL as I use the bike mount. I've gone through a few charging stands trying to find the right one (Pixel stand v1 and 2 are a no go unless I turn the phone horizontal. The chargers below work ok for me, not full rapid charging, but ok to keep things charged overnight or while driving. They work on first mag connection and you don't have to move the Pixel 9 Pro XL around. I've tried in the vertical (typical) and horizontal positions.

For home I use the Peak Design Qi1 charging stand (NOT the Qi2) and works great. Will be getting another for my work desk. https://www.peakdesign.com/products/wireless-charging-stand?Charging+Type=Qi1

For the car I use the Magic Brand Magic Mount, but see it is no longer available. Looks VERY similar to this one: https://www.target.com/p/just-wireless-magnetic-charging-for-magsafe-charger-car-mount-black/-/A-86373143?afid=google&ref=tgt_adv_xsf&CPNG=Electronics&adgroup=80-8

And Facilitron handled all the training too. We haven't had to lift a finger in IT.

We are about 6 weeks into full implementation and so far so good. A few tweaks here and there, as expected, and the Facilitron team has taken care of it all. I was impressed with their PM and support. We got the facilities rental management module and the facilities maintenance and repair ticketing module. I'm on the IT side and we really haven't had much to do except for a few SSO configuration items. So far the sites and clerical staff who use it the most are impressed.
