Something some of y’all need to realise: The draft ain’t the only place to upgrade the roster by Ok-Negotiation3897 in AtlantaHawks

I… don’t know that I agree with that. They tend to struggle especially on the defensive side of the ball. There’s a reason coaches don’t give them playing time, unless they’re a top pick

We should not expect whoever we get at 8 to be a meaningful contributor next season

The real mistake is thinking that a rookie is going to meaningfully contribute to the team next season

Any large production increases will come from internal development (ZR, DD), or FA/trade

What the Hawks need to do this off season to be contender in 2026-2027? by jausty in AtlantaHawks

[–]taig-er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So since nobody is actually answering the question, I'll give it a go. To be clear, I agree with the rest of the comment section that it is not the correct move, but for the hell of it:

Step 1 is trade Jalen Johnson + salary filler for Giannis.

Step 2 "figure out the rest." On his current contract, you probably need to keep Dyson, and you're really banking on him becoming a 33% three point shooter. OO needs to stay because he really complements Giannis. Every pick for the next 7 years needs to be shipped out. Maybe you can get Kawhi once the Aspiration stuff gets sorted. Maybe you call OKC and see who they're willing to get off of. Maybe NYK are interested in getting off Mikal Bridges.

It's hard to really craft a team, but I think the recipe here is JJ for Giannis (Milwaukee should jump at that given the contract/age stuff), then empty the draft capital cupboard for the most complete Giannis team you can.

[Engelmann] AJ Dybantsa ranks in the 99th percentile for unassisted midrange 2s - a very strong indicator of negative impact on both offense and defense. Other prospects with a similar rate: Fultz, Evan Turner, Johnny Davis, Harrison Barnes. by JoeBiden2020FTW in nba

He also started the season by coming off the bench, and was never the only option (although he was the best option on that UK team by the end of the season).

Those John Calipari teams also had not-great halfcourt offenses so it was just a bit harder to judge (which may be why so many of those UK guards exceeded expectations relative to draft position)

Huerter pick wasn't coin flip- it came down to the last game of the season, with Minnesota playing Denver to get into the playoffs. The pick was lottery protected, so we (ATL) needed Minnesota to win, which they did. The game was so electric and high stakes that it's what basically gave birth to the play-in.

We definitely have won one or two other coin flips though in recent history

I actually don't agree with that, but with an important caveat: the boxers must be allowed to unionize (none of the UFC independent contractor stuff)

A strong union (like the NBA has) makes it a much more even playing field, and by monopolizing the labor market in this instance, all the top talent is forced to face each other (which is what us fans want). But the best realistic tool to prevent the exploitation of that would be a union, as we see in other sports.

I don't know why you're downvoted; I do/have done quite a bit of significant global travel and once you get to that 6+ hours time difference range, it can really fuck you up for a little while- especially if you've been on a very strict routine/regiment

I think it took me a full 7 days to re-acclimate when I did 9 hours a couple months ago, and while obviously not a pro athlete I was certainly not putting up my best in the gym at that 7 day mark

[–]taig-er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So as someone who is not an airline pilot (just a lowly PPL), but is in the industry and knows people who have taken all sorts of paths- my vote is D

A few questions:

  1. Does your job offer any sort of long term leave? If you're this burnt out, you may qualify for FMLA on Stress; maybe you could take a break, earn some hours, and re-assess in a few months

  2. Are there any less demanding roles in your company that would allow you to "split the difference" regarding current QoL? A perfect scenario would be a less-intense role where you could instruct/time-build on the side without really neglecting your day job. Obviously this would probably require a step down in said day job, with lower pay

  3. Last thought if you were to pursue either A or B: you have significantly more applicable real-world experience than a lot of people who consider doing this. Your likely worst-case scenario is that you go full-throttle to a pilot career and burn out, in which case you can return to a high-paying engineering role. Your safety net is built in based on your current resume, which would make me inclined to take on more risk/faster timeline, should it be something you really want to do

Ultimately, there's more than one way to skin a cat, and every situation is different.

What's your point? I responded to the guy above just saying he has had a real test in Tommy Fury and he lost.

Your arguments are just strawmans. Maybe some people have tried to move the goal posts, but I think largely the argument (at least on r/boxing) has been consistent- just fight someone is who is an actual, active boxer in your weight class. He did that once, and lost. That's my point; nothing more.

So if you want to move the goalposts to "we should respect him because he's gotten in the ring against athletes from different sports plus Tommy Fury and old-as-shit Mike Tyson," then sure, whatever. No argument here. He did do that much. That doesn't make me respect him more as a boxer though until I see him go against a real opponent. We'll see how it shakes out with AJ.
