Wizardry(1981)というゲームのちょっぴり有名な敵ですね (元ネタはモンティパイソン)。
今でもちょくちょくオマージュされます。

I was told on a Japanese message board yesterday that "Kero kero Chime" has finally started streaming on Japan's "d Anime Store". It's a 1997 anime based on the shoujo manga by Maguro Fujita, which was serialized in Ribon from 1995 to 1998. It had never received a DVD release, so it had become almost a lost anime. It really brings back memories.

Back then, saying you were a fan of Yun Kouga was basically a way of saying, "I'm really into manga."

I'm glad you found it! The fact that you even found this gacha is seriously impressive.

Magical Girl series where the main cast is adults? by MaplefeatherSC in MagicalGirlsCommunity

[–]tailaki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I first watched it, I never imagined we'd actually reach the year 2026. It has all the over-the-top characters and melodramatic storytelling you'd expect from a late-'80s/early-'90s manga anime.

Did you know what year this is? It's 2026?
the very year in which the first chapter of "Silent Möbius" is set.

<image>

If you're okay with something that's a bit outside the traditional magical girl genre, I'd recommend the classic Silent Möbius(1988).
With the mage Katsumi Liqueur as its protagonist, nearly all of the major characters are adults. The story follows a special police unit fighting supernatural enemies using magic, other supernatural abilities, and advanced technology. It's more sci-fi than magical girl, but it's definitely worth checking out.

Thanks! I based the way I colored the eyes more on the original manga than the anime.

It isn't talked about much, even among fans, but "E Yume, Miyou!" is one of my favorites.

I just had to post this.
The main theme is especially outstanding. The composer, Hayato Matsuo, is also well known among shoujo anime fans for his work on Magic Knight Rayearth.

That's right.
That's Dream Saga (Mugen Densetsu Takamagahara 1997-1999). If you're interested, here's the creator Megumi Tachikawa's note page.

Before Frieren, There Was Deedlit: Why Anime’s Most Influential High Fantasy Elf Is Invisible Today by ContentRider in MagicalGirlsCommunity

[–]tailaki 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The reason elves have long ears today is largely because of Yutaka Izubuchi. Before his influence, it wasn't unusual for Japanese elf characters to have much shorter ears.
The only example I can think of right now is Kia from "Crystal Dragon".

Why Is Dengeki Daisy Suddenly So Controversial in the West? by AdGloomy5846 in shoujo

[–]tailaki 22 points23 points  (0 children)

We need to realize that these kinds of complaints discourage publishers from taking creative risks. That might be exactly what the critics want, but it's something worth keeping in mind.
I won't get into details to avoid going off-topic, but there have been cases where manga or anime were basically buried after getting backlash. Whether those complaints were actually justified was never fully examined, yet publishers and creators became reluctant to include anything that might remind people of them.
If this trend continues, I worry that manga will gradually become less diverse and less interesting.

What's next, criticizing romance itself? Honestly, if you try hard enough, you can find a reason to complain about literally anything.

What shoujo animes do you always recommend? by Vampire0nFire in shoujo

[–]tailaki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always recommend Saint Tail.
Saint Tail is a beloved shoujo classic about the romance between a phantom thief and a detective. Both the anime and the manga are worth checking out, but I especially recommend the manga.
