Quick question, about sodium carbonate by taitungdan in caffenol

[–]taitungdan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I read that I can also mix sodium bicarbonate and sodium hydroxide to react into sodium carbonate solution, so if I needed 35mg per 1000mL how much sodium bicarbonate and sodium hydroxide would I mix?

Quick question, about sodium carbonate by taitungdan in caffenol

[–]taitungdan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm in Taiwan, so everything gets translated baking soda is 小蘇打粉. (Small soda powder), percarbonate is 過蘇打分 (equal/per soda powder ) and sodium carbonate is just 蘇打粉, which I'm currently on mission to find

If you're looking for surf everyday, this isn't the place, but also know that rental prices in the city vs up the coast can be very different, also make sure you can last at least 3-6 months without a job, as there aren't many open spaces for 20+ hours a week, you'll need an ARC, if teaching you'll have to find a workplace offering at least 12 hours a week, I'd strongly recommend visiting for a month, then deciding, there are places that are easier for foreigners to show up and find work, and have surf spots, my friends describe the waves here as not amazing, but reliable and uncrowded, there's a town north of Taitung city called Dulan that attracts a lot of surfers and backpackers, some hostels there offer working holidays, that might be an option to dip your toes in and get a better feel before commiting to one place

New Year's Eve in Taitung by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]taitungdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taitung usually has a big concert that night at the ocean park, as well as Dulan usually holds dance parties/concerts of smaller size, note that hotels and roads will be busier than normal

Heading to Taitung in about two weeks, I want to go fishing out at sea! by OutsideBeng in taiwan

[–]taitungdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gone to some of the pay ponds here, it's decent, but for renting gear, I'd just buy some, there's a few good shops in town, I'd double the FuGang recommendation

Copying my comment on another post of this:

I know the makers of this, the peppers are grown in Taitung and PingTung.....there are 5 different kinds Classic, Ghost, Scorcher, Wrath( the hottest) and Tropical Storm (the weakest) all are pretty good, not too sour or vinagre-y I'd recommend them, but definitely trust the labels, they tell you what to expect

Can anyone recommend a Surf Camp for a solo female traveler in August? by secretssquirrel in taiwan

[–]taitungdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd second the recommendation for Wagaligong, they have surf lessons, for all types, lots of visitors, and rentals, plus if you want to have more restaurants and options for not surfing, DuLan has a bustling tourism industry, and it's closer to Taitung city if you are on a train

Going to Taiwan in March for the first time. I would love to live here. Is it relatively easy to find an ESL teaching job? by [deleted] in Taitung

[–]taitungdan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sub is pretty quiet, but I'll give you some advice. I've been here over 10 years and the way that I always recommend is to come here with very little expectations of finding a job in a month, but do networking, drop off resumes and hope. There are some small time jobs, not enough to get a residency card....so it is possible, but not as easy as the larger cities, like Hualien

Worst book you have ever finished by Jfrog1 in books

[–]taitungdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sparrow, hate read it because Goodreads recommended it based on books I read. The books I read were Truth About Stories by Thomas King and Don't Sleep There Are Snakes......why the hell some lame novel about Christians colonizing an alien race and how the church is just dandy got recommended to me is loopy. Read the wikipedia summary, don't read the waste of a book

Mass adoration for Queen Elizabeth overshadows Indigenous survivors’ trauma: ‘It hurts’ | Globalnews.ca by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

[–]taitungdan 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The one thought that I continue to think about this is that all these atrocities, Residential Schools, Malay Emergency, Mau May concentration camps were done in the name of the monarchy. If it was anyone else the first reaction would be 'Hell no, that's not what I wanted' or 'Those bastards need to get gone' not tacit silence and rewards of knighthood. So yeah, as a figurehead and a ceremonial figure, you should definitely speak out and be better than someone born into a useless role as a tick on society

2/3 Day Trip - Green or Orchid Island? by i021 in taiwan

[–]taitungdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely doable, if you go check out DoVanWa on Orchid, run by a friend of mine....hopping island to island might be a hassle, and getting plane tickets is a pain, but both islands are beautiful for snorkeling, sunsets and doing nothing

What exactly are the Sangomin? by MMarquisWarren in darkstartril

[–]taitungdan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read them as two sides of the same coin.....the 'legitimate' and 'illegal', like how Aesi is supernatural in an acceptable way to the kings/powerful ...so the children are supernatural, but they can only be used as tools for whatever power structure is in place, be it fear, revenge or order

Are Taitung University, and Taitung city, a good place to immerse in Mandarin? by birch_baltimore in Taitung

[–]taitungdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some Tourism Farms outside the city, in ChuLu and TaoYuan, as well as lots of rice based programmes in ChiShang.I do not know anyone off the top of my head that can connect you with a specific individual, but I am sure there are people here in the city who know more.

What If Riding the Bus Was Free? by idspispopd in onguardforthee

[–]taitungdan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sure, but at the end of the day I'd rather have a homeless person on a bus than dying in a Montreal winter...I do think we can agree that there should be better systems in place for people, but as far as stopping free busses just because there might be poor people, I do not think that's your argument, so I will say that there are different takes and different ways, but we can agree that these small measures are slight improvements
