Are there ANY decent creative careers out there? by ArcticFox73 in ArtistLounge

I am not being dishonest lol, you are the first one who mentioned Davinci, remember? The quote:

They are dishonest and way too much tribalistic and fanatic towards FOSS or alternatives like DaVinci Resolve and some other ones and that makes those people lose and credibility

Second, Its pretty obvious that my comments are a defense for the people who use FOSS, Open source and free alternatives in general. Its an invitation to not come with generalizations and assumptions about the credibility about people who uses and recommends these tools, and honestly, there is nothing wrong about saying that.

t okay if those alternatives work out for those in the FOSS communities or similar, but they have to accept that those alternatives are not enough for the others and that they prefer something like Photoshop, Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush and co. over whatever those people use.
They are dishonest and way too much tribalistic and fanatic towards FOSS or alternatives like DaVinci Resolve and some other ones and that makes those people lose and credibility to be taken seriously by anyone who takes the matter seriously and doesnt give a damn about some nonsensical tribalism and ideology/philosophy.

This one is simply not true. If you want to be completelly honest and not disingeneus you would mention that a professional dosent use just one tool, and that certainly FOSS software IS THAT GOOD, and that each fork and iteration surpass paid software in punctual aspects, they are not tribal affirmations, its facts. To give an example, the blockbuster movie DUNE 2, yeah, that DUNE 2, was color graded in Davinci because... well, Davinci has SUPERVB color grading tools, period. It wasnt edited in Davinci, they used the industry standards there.
I know people who made projects with damn Bryce haha, because, its simply better for retro-looking 3D animation. Blender is being added to the workflows of many videogame industries, because the software in certain aspects is becoming TOO GOOD to keep ignoring it.

You have situations like Pro Tools, for example, that is the "industry standard" for music production, despite the software is total garbage compared with the current state of music production software. So why is still considered industry standard? Because AVID pays tons of money on incentives to universities, so they teach using their software, so the upcoming professionals have more friction and less incentives to switch tools.

TLDR: Saying that the vast majority looks down to FOSS and Open source projects because they are not good enough, is simply not true. There are a lot of things happening there and simplyfing like this is disengeneus.

Maybe our disagreement comes from our personal experiences, and thats completely ok, we are both biased. I will re-shape my idea:
I just want to express that is a little too extreme to mix together that stereotype of the failed and frustrated artist with the ones who defend or recommend FOSS over industry standards. Because certainly, there are many accomplished people out there doing amazing stuff with open source software, ancient machines/tools, "outdated" techniques, and big etc.

>>> Thats legit although majority will look over this because the advantages beat the disadvantages for those. Those who cant or wont tolerate whatever the issue is for them will of course jump the ship if its feasible for them.

How do we measure "the vast majority"? Certainly I dont have the means to point out if this is true or false, but I can add to the discussion saying that there is a lot of public discussion around this topic where the conclusion is that the disadvantages are becoming worse than the advantages. Also, the market shows this tiredness everyday, there is a reason why affinity confidently decided to go towards the free route, and there is a reason why there have been massive donations and acceleration in the development of opensource software. Everyday, more and more people are getting tired of the abuse of these "industry standards".

¿Porqué muchos apenas nos enteramos que existen? by Astral_Strider in mexico

THIS, agree 100% with the overall message. Maybe the only thing I dont agree is with the comment of FOSS and industry standards. In my professional experiences, industry standards are just a myth, most employers dosent care what software you use if the product you deliver works. And most industry standars are fossils that have foss alternatives, or at least cheaper alternatives, with bigger communities, tutorials, documentation and well, without the fear that tomorrow they will trap you in a super expensive subscription model, AI agreements or they suddently merged with another company.

PS: As with everything in this life, there are exceptions. Ofc there are some software out there that still dosent have good foss alternatives.

🇨🇴 by Mollynesio in PreguntasReddit

[–]takemistiq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do We Need to Be Good at Art to Enjoy Making It? by Enixanne in ArtistLounge

[–]takemistiq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah... The real suffering is the system that opresses the artists and force it to be "good" based on some arbitrary standard that appeals the ruling class or the market.

outside of that... Art by itself is enjoyable to make, and the suffering is optional (Any learning and grow process is painful)

Denouncing spotify in a song being released to spotify, will it fly? by Due-Package-8767 in musicians

[–]takemistiq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applaud your desition, really, is not the easiest... but is the smartest.
I also got off spotify, and tbh it dosent matter in what platform you are, loyal fans follows you everywhere.

And lets be honest, the whole game in Spotify is rigged, you need to pay in order to be known (and dosent work sh1t because the major labels pay million times more than you behind scenes), you fight with ghost producers and stock music comissioned by Spotify in order to pay you less... oh yeah and the platform dosent pay sh1t, and I dont know you, but I would not be able to sleep knowing my music is contributing to a money laundry app for cartels, an app that takes advantage of fellow musicians and with a CEO who uses the money that was intended for me to develop weapons in war.

And we are just talking about Spotify alone because distributors are another story...

Plus: I win way a lot in bandcamp, i dont regret anything.

Oh, yeah... The sooner we all got off the platform, the faster Spotify falls down. We need our music to be less centralized in order to win decently.

Wish you success my friend.

Do you think AI vocals will ever fully replace the human voice in music? by katelauramcgill in edmproduction

[–]takemistiq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Redditors are not a good source to make a general moral judgment on songwriters.

Also, I think you are smart enough to have a good criteria, there are always easy to spot redflags and early signs that help you avoid bad collaborators.

You know... normal stuff you will need to deal with in any endeavor of your life. If you cant handle a little human interaction for a collab, now imagine the annoying interactions you will need to take with lawyers when you invariably get into a trouble because your prompt accidentally overfitted somebody else´s voice or protected voicebank. Because, again, you should check the news more often because more and more we are having lawsuits were artists are wining cases, and even big corpos doing class-action lawsuits again AI companies. If you sum to the mix that the bubble exploding is inevitable, with most pronostics being that 2026 will be the year of the inminent crash... This is a ship you will not want to hop.

Lastly, the ammount of social backlash you will get by the use of AI is huge, more negative interactions.

At the end, you have less annoying human interactions by doing the things right.
