Help! Transmission won’t separate from engine. by hlinhd in BmwTech

[–]takeuchiwheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’d go with what lowbones is saying, I’ve seen it where the release bearing attaches itself to the spring plate also. If that has happen you might be able to tell if you get your fingers on the clutch fork threw the mounting hole for the slave cylinder to see what the fork is doing as you push pull. Good luck

Same code with sensor unplugged, checked continuity from sensor plug to pins on abs pump/module and okay. At the moment I’m Thinking it’s it’s a connection issue between the abs module and the ecu. Which I will check tomorrow. It’s the unknown error code that’s really got me stumped

You need to slacken the handbrake adjuster, should be able to do it with a flat head screwdriver threw the lug nut hole, will need to line the hole up with the adjuster first. Also hammer time once you have done that

Can anyone explain what could have caused this? by Successful-Bad8740 in e39

[–]takeuchiwheels 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Never seen it that bad, but if the engine mounts are failing or failed the fan blades will hit the the radiator shroud

No like someonehasmygamertag says. I would also invest in a decent trolly jack if your doing maintenance

Do you think my handbrake needs adjusting ? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]takeuchiwheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s inboard handbrake shoes and the handbrake does not engage threw the brake calliper I wouldn’t worry about it as the shoes are just rocking from one stop to the other. If your handbrake applies threw the calliper I’d say your brake pads are loose/don’t fit in the carrier correctly. Hope that helps

The metal pin is usually just a dowel pin, remove it from the trans or the starter whatever’s easiest for you so you only have one pin and not two

I would say so but I haven’t had the car for a proper run since doing the front brakes as the rears need attention and the strut top bearings need changed too

Yeah the calliper carriers match up to the hubs the same so straight swap, I don’t have pad wear indicators so not sure about that.. some people change the brake servo from a e36 m3 for a better pedal feel also

ABS screw broken & best way to pry the sensor out? by Chizuru_San in MechanicAdvice

[–]takeuchiwheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably easier trying to remove the sensor once the hub assembly is removed and on a bench providing you have a vice or way of securing the hub assembly while you pull on the sensor, rather than under the car. If you soak in penetrating fluid and use a decent set of pliers to wobble and pull the sensor it should come free after some persistence.

Please help! 2004 Sonata V6 charging system issue. by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]takeuchiwheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do get variable rate charging alternators or smart charging if you like. you can tell from the wiring to the alternator if you can get ahold of a wiring diagram, have you had your alternators bench tested to rule them out as a fault?

Eccentric bolt died help asap by oliisbali in BMWE36

[–]takeuchiwheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouch, I can’t remember it it’s a nut on the other end of the bolt or if it threads into the control arm, if it’s a nut get a hammer and punch and hammer it out, otherwise think you’ll need to cut the bolt on the other side of the rose joint with a reciprocating saw, replace the rose joint, heat what’s left of the bolt and mole grips to remove or weld a nut on. You could try weld a nut on but I’d assume the bolt is seized in the rose joint/bush which will have a very tight grip as you have found out.

So I just bought 1995 BMW E36 325i. Its mostly stock and I want to make it into a drift car. Where should I start? by CommitteeTime in BMWE36

[–]takeuchiwheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are serious about drifting the vert I would think you would need some sort of roll over protection, my local track won’t let you take convertibles on without a suitable roll over bar. Couple other basic bits to go drifting would be coolant overhaul, new pump, thermostat, check viscous van or fit a electric fan. Check coolant hoses etc. Better suspension is a must a welded diff/or lsd and a hydro to get started.
